"L, wait." He grabbed her arm as she started to climb out. "Get back in the car." He whispered. "Get in the car. Now."
She looked at what he was looking at and saw nothing. The shadow had creeped forward, inching slowly closer and closer to the road and their car. They could see half the shadow person in the dim moonlight but the rest was obscured.
The girl had eventually got back in the car and slammed the door shut. "What is it?" She said a little too loud.
"Don't seem... shocked. But I'm gonna dri-... drive."
"Why?"
The panic written across his face spread into hers as she turned to see what he was looking at.
The shadow person was gone. She turned back to him, her face relaxing. "Look it's fi-"
Her face slowly turned back around. She screamed; a painful, piercing scream, her hand moving to clutch her mouth.
The shadowy figure was standing right in front of the bonnet of their car. Something was held tightly in its hand. It was an axe. One you could buy anywhere but it looked pretty heavyweight, like one you would use for chopping down trees.
The boy, without thinking, put his foot on the gas, ploughing into it. The shadow figure rolled over the front window of the car, cracking it everywhere, making it impossible to see out of the front window, and thudded along the roof, clattering before cracking the back window as well.
The boy took a deep breath and looked straight out of the front window, still driving, quickening in speed, trying to make out what he could of the street. The engine was screaming as they nearly hit 55 miles per hour. She looked at him, eyes wide, filled with dread and fear. Suddenly, her face turned to look out of the front window, for no reason. Maybe she knew what was going to happen. Maybe she didn't. I guess she'll never be able to tell anyone.
"LUKE!"
But it was too late. The car veered off, smashed into the tree and there was a scream, a crunch of metal, spilt blood, shattered glass and another body went 6 feet under.
