Eknie was, figuratively speaking, torn to shreds, and whatever she had experienced in the hands of the spy had to pale in comparison to the social outrage the lie had caused.
Finally, when she was crying hysterically and tearing out her hair, Ted decided that enough was enough. He pulled her away and explained to the crowd that he was willing to forgive her if certain conditions were met.
At the door of his favorite coffee shop he stopped.
"Sometimes, Eknie, I really wonder what you see in me that makes you put up with this," he said. "There must be something, a feature too good for me to notice in myself, hm?"
"You have really nice eyes and they burn me so nicely," Eknie managed to say through her sobs.
"Is that all?"
"You are so – so arrogant and when you put up with me…it makes me feel so special, please forgive me for saying this!"
"And?"
"And you are so slender, and your arms are so strong! Have you ever seen a man more handsome than yourself? And your cheekbones -"
