The apparatus that Mad wanted to show Ted was quite confusing. Wires were running all over it, but there was an empty space in the middle of it that seemed to serve no purpose at all.
"I just need to turn it on now," the scientist said with dissonant cheeriness.
"This looks like a torture chamber," the high cor noted. "Are you sure that this was not originally intended as that kind of a room?"
"Well, it may have been the intention, but I assure you that a rat is the largest thing that has died here during my watch…"
The room did look bleak, and there were clear signs of someone having been chained to one of the walls - there was a shape of a human body there with less dust and dirt than on the wall around it.
The chains had been removed, but not without considerable damage done to the walls that had held them in place.
Then there was the box of dead rats in the corner. Ted got the feeling that Madorn did not want to talk about it.
