"Mother of WORMS…"
As the curse escaped his lips, Ted realized that Zerielle's mouth was forming the exact same name.
The creature that had crawled out of the egg was not only bulletproof. It was a proof in itself that magic not only existed in this world, but also transformed its physical reality. It was a salamander, but not like those with colors of jewels on their skin, it was an ugly, mythical beast, larger than the egg that had paradoxically held it captive. It had the mean and burning eyes of a demon, its tongue was serpentine, forked like the tongue of a snake, and its claws were definitely not from the amphibian realm, either.
It was crawling across the cabin floor. Zerielle looked so astonished that it was probably sheer awe preventing her from jumping onto the relative safety of Ted's bed. The high cor himself had found the elevated surface already. Now, he took a long piece of wood that he kept next to his pillow for nefarious and violent purposes.
