Madorn had left to do his work on the continent and perhaps to provide a better life for his family in case he ever decided to return. While Mrs. Madorn had not outright opposed the idea, it had been clear to Mad that she felt sorrowful over losing her husband and the father of her daughter. Intellectual and prone to melancholy, Mrs. Madorn would often stay up all night and write her books. She was a novelist, but that profession was not thought of as useful on the Fin, and this preoccupation with dull matters was something that Ted wished to change.
"Anyway." Ted got up after listening to the whole story. "If your daughter could help me with my artistic issues, I would be eternally grateful for her. You must be itching to find your wife. I am sure you two will have a lot to talk about."
