He was considered outspoken and rude but only on occasions. Otherwise, he was a mute kind of person.
He wanted to say that "Lisa Love! I m proud of you, you are going to take care of me." but he could not. Work took him under its wings and he could not express his affection to the only person who needed and deserved it the most. One day at a meeting of the shareholders at the company. He was being taunted at his obsession with business and the opinions of the people were reckless. One of the people taunted saying " John believes in anti-natalism but he certainly believes the revolution of the human race"
John Dalton said "I' m not anti-natal. I have a child of my own." That person went on saying "what do you know about your child." "you just know more about the nuances of the business but you have to do nothing with them."
John was furious. That person was hitting him personally but at the same time, he was right on the point. These people were not the competitors but they were not even friends. They just use to sit with him in meetings.
John wanted to discuss the success of Lisa with his wife Ellen but Ellen was nowhere so he let the thing go without discussing it, without saying that I m Proud of you Lisa"
John Dalton was ruined. His death news was circulating and it was presumed that people other than John himself are also deceased in this fire. Who initiated the fire. How it propagated and everything related to it was the news of the town.
Lisa and James were rendered helpless. Nobody was around. Their nanny who was just the nanny of Lisa at first was with them. Both of them were weeping and she was caressing them. Meanwhile, other servants were gloomy too. They never wanted to be a part of the news. They were the common man. They had their lives, their families and by the death of John Dalton, all of that was in jeopardy.
Police came soon to the house. They asked servants the questions like
"When did you last see your employee."
One of the servants replied that:
"He talked yesterday on phone with us."
"What did he say in particular?"
A police officer asked again. The servant replied
"He asked us to take care of the kids; that we must drop them by the school daily and serve them properly day and night". He finished his sentence.
"Did he seem anxious about anything? Did he say that he is worried about the future" police officers tried to ask properly?
"no sir, he didn't seem to be anxious at all. He was just rude as always and dictating." Servant replied
"so, he was pretty normal?" it seemed to be the last question of these police officers
"yes sir, only that he never asks us to take care of the children, even he has to leave the town or the country, he never gives us responsibility for the kids." The servant replied by critically analyzing the attitudes of his master.
" so, who does take care of the children when both husband and wife are gone?" the police officer asked in surprise.
"They are always on their own. We leave the premises at 7 pm and we get to the job at 8 am." Servant replied.
"that's it for today, you guys can go now."
They went outside. Both of them were pretty anxious. One of them asked
"You know that lying to the police officers is a huge crime in the state."
The other was pretty anxious and said that
"Don't you worry about them
They would never suspect that we lied. We are just common to man and the employee of John Dalton."
The other said but the first one was still worried. He said
"what if we are asked to visit the station they would inquire us wholly and one of us has to tell them everything."
"You may not be worried, We just have to wait for the other call."
Nanny asked the children to come to the table. It had been the night since the death news of John Dalton. Nobody moved from their position and the nanny asked them again
"come on kids! You need to eat something. Food is required to keep the energy intact" then she came nearer to Lisa, Lisa hugged her tightly. She seemed very afraid of everything.
She told Lisa that
"My girl, you need not worry about everything. Everything shall turn good in your way."
" I am always here for you, as I have already been there for you... I m your mother, honey."
Nanny was just Turing old. She was a woman in her late 40s. She did not know what she was uttering but she meant whatever she had said.
"I lost my father, nanny," Lisa asked her in her sobs. Her heart was cut out at the moment. She said in reassurance
" I m never going to leave you, my love, never going to leave you."
She brought the food nearer to them. She took a spoon full of the pasts from the bowl and make its way to the mouth of James. James smile at this strange movement of the spoon and he ate the pasta from the spoon. Then it came to the turn of Lisa and she ate inspired by the fact that she did not feel like eating anything. She was still waiting for a miracle to happen. She was waiting for her alienated father who was troubled by conspiracies, lost family life, and destructed business. Still, she was praying for his return out of nowhere. It was so natural for Lisa to feel love for his father. At least he came home every night. Spent time with them. She loved him and she wanted him to be safe and sound.
