Chapter 3 - Chapter 02 The Curious Boy

For the next three days, I would often think about what I saw the night I met the knights. I couldn't wrap my mind around it. I had realized there was more to this world than expected. "Was my mother using magic? If so, this is fantastic news. Could I possibly live a life of freedom through magic?" Baron thought to himself.

I had connected the dots one by one. Even my father used some magic as well. "The book he grabbed from the study room must've been a spellbook. I need to get my hands on that book," Baron thought to myself.

I had a new mission in mind now. I had to get into that room and get that book. Because I couldn't yet walk, I had to crawl and scoot around the place, not that I had much freedom within the house. My father or mother would always watch me, ensuring I wouldn't go 2 feet out of reach. But sometimes, when my father would protect me, he would fall asleep on the couch; To be honest, I didn't blame him.

He took care of most of the farm that we stayed on, feeding the chickens, attending to the stables, that sort of thing. It seemed tiring and draining, but he would always keep that goofy smile wherever he went after finishing work.

But sometimes, when my father would watch me, he would fall asleep on the couch. I would crawl away from my father's vision and try to find a way into the study. Pushing the door open was no luck. I had to turn the knob. If my calculations are correct, would I be able to use magic? I put my theory to the test and tried to turn the knob with this so-called magic. I closed my eyes and lifted my hand, concentrating all my focus on the knob. I began to feel a slight tingle throughout my body. In the end, I failed. But not all was lost. The tingling I experienced gave me enough faith to keep trying.

So I did. I remembered all the movies I watched in my old life that had to do with magic, and I came to two different conclusions.

The first one was that anyone could use this world's magic merely with no specific explanation, which would make my things a lot easier to start.

Or the second conclusion. This world's magic was complex, with rules and limitations. Spells had to be learnt, and skills had to be hone through hard Work and training.

I attempted to turn the knob again, trying to get that tingly sensation I had from earlier. I closed my eyes and concentrated. I imagined that my body was a vase and, inside the vase, was full of water which represents the magic in a living being. I lifted my hand towards the knob and pictured the magic flowing through my arm up to my wrist and into my hand. My hand quickly became warm and started to sting. The burning feeling quickly spread back down my wrist and down my arm. I began to burn up; at this point, and it felt like my soul was on fire, I didn't cry, or I would blow my cover. The pain was unbearable, but I was no pu**y. The mission has to be put to the test.

I began to attempt using magic one more time.

I began to burn up again. This time it was throughout my body. I couldn't concentrate through the burning pain. Failure yet again. I tried to think of another way into the study, but the only other option was to wake my father. He was a heavy sleeper and was not easily woken. I crawled my nibble body over to where my father had been lying down and began to pull on his shirt. To my luck it was no use I wasn't strong enough to make him budge even the slightest bit. This time I tried poking him in the face, nothing again. This man was knocked out cold. I had to use the last trick up my sleeve. I screamed at the top of my lungs "Papa, wake up,"

Ramus slowly opened his one eye to see a frowning Baron. "What's up squirt, you hungry," Ramus chuckled as he fixated himself upwards onto the couch.

"Book papa," Baron said still giving his father the death stare. "Book? what book?" said Ramus

Baron pointed towards the end of the hallway to direct his father vision to where the study room was. "Book papa?"

"That room is off limits. Your mother would get very upset if I showed you what was in that room. "

Baron looked at Ramus with the cutest puppy dog face he could pull off "pwease papa?" Ray's couldn't resist the look of his son. He had given up.

"Alright fine but just this once, you hear? Your mother will tear me apart if she finds out. Let's make this quick." little did Ramus know he was only a pawn in a game of chess. Behind those big brown puppy dog eyes, was a sinister mastermind at work.

Ray's picked Baron up onto his shoulders and headed towards the study room.

"This was my chance to finally get my hands on that book. My father really is a dumbass eh. I like the guy but he's a softy, back on earth he wouldn't last a day in the field. Ha ha what a guy." Baron thought to himself.

Ramus opened the study room door. It was a simple 8 x 8 room, the Study looked as if nobody had used the room in years. It was Dusty. you could breathe the thick layer of the dust within the air clogging up lungs. There was a window stretching across the back wall emitting sunlight through its clouded glass. To the right side of the room was a big wooden desk that had a dark stain to the wood. It gave off a nice contrast to the green colours that decorated the wallpapers. To the left side of the room, a massive bookcase that stretched from the back wall to the far wall. All kinds of books filled the case. "Jackpot", Baron had thought to himself. But second guessing that thought he was stumped. There was so many choices to choose from and so little time.
