Rain smiled softly at me, but then her face turned worried, she moved to stand up clumsily, and just like a newborn deer, fell right back down on her ass. I held her arm gently "easy there, what are you doing?", her eyes were wide as she looked around wildly, her chest was heaving and I saw sweat forming on her forehead and chest "wh-where are they?", shit, what am I gonna do now?
I held her face in my hands and spoke softly "Cedric and Zevrus are ok, and so are you, we got you out" , she shook her head violently and removed my hands from her face "wh-where are they?!" I sighed and tried again "Zevrus was here moments ago, he had to go back to get Cedric". Rain swallowed hard and lowered her head, she frowned and grabbed the big white shirt covering her upper body and barely her lower region, but then she shook her head and rubbed her face "urgh! my head feels like it's going to explode",she noticed the piercings in her arms "wh-what have they done to me?!", I opened my mouth to answer, but she moved quickly, standing up on wobbly legs, she took a deep breath, then screamed "Cedric!, Zevrus!", I stood up and grabbed her arm "Rain, calm down, you need to-", her screams interrupted me "Cedric! Zevrus!", the wolves around us stared at her, but a warning glare from me made them clear their throats and look away.
Rain tried to shake off my hand but I held a tad stronger to get her attention, she winced and looked back at me, I smiled at her "Rain, you need to calm down, I promise I'll tell you everything, by the time I'm done they'll be back here", her wide eyes teared up and her lower lip quivered "what if they don't?" I nodded "they will, and if not, I'll go after them, ok?", Rain studied my face and I saw a tear run down her face, she looked back at the burning building of the head quarters for a second, and then looked back at me, sniffing, she nodded and I hugged her, I missed her so bad, her embrace calmed me and gave me all the energy I needed in order to tell her the whole story.
By the time I was done, Rain was quiet, she sat next to me hugging her legs and looked deep in thought the whole time, the crisp night air made her shiver and bury her face behind her knees, I reached an arm around her and hugged her closer to my body, the heat will help keep her warm until Cedric and Zevrus get back, then we'll be able to go back to the pack area. Rain's voice interrupted my thoughts, "so… everything I've done, everything I went through in there… it was all for nothing?", I looked down at her "of course not, what are you talking about?" I reached a finger under her chin and lifted her face to look in her eyes "look around you, all these werewolves are free, some of them have kids waiting back home, the rest of them got their revenge for their loved ones" I swallowed "including me", her eyes teared up again "except Cedric and Zevrus, I failed" I smiled at her lazily "don't say that, I told you they'll be right back". I sure hoped so.
Rain's quiet demeanor changed back to the wild anxious one, she shook her head and wiped away her tears with her hands, "I have to go back", she stood up and started stumbling towards the head quarters's direction, I quickly caught up with her and walked bayside her "where the hell are you going?" she reached out to lean on a tree as she took her breath "I- I have to go back, I can't leave them there", I opened my mouth to answer but a familiar voice replaced mine, "we're not going anywhere baby", Rain and I looked up, and there stood Zevrus holding up Cedric by the arm. Cedric had a nasty gash in his left shoulder and was leaning his arm across Zevrus' shoulders, while Zevrus kept it that way by holding his hand. Rain stared at them as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing, then her face broke into a huge smile and her tears kept rolling down her cheeks, then she ran to them and threw herself on her, Cedric grunted at the painful impact but he held her close with his good arm, and so did Zevrus, I smiled and sighed inwardly in relief, Cedric's stare locked with mine and he said "thank you", I nodded and turned around to go back to the other werewolves, those three need some privacy.
