After setting all matter, they had dinner where Kagami found out he had been asleep for an entire day. Recovering so quickly from a nearby fatal injury was an incredible feat but because he told them he knew nothing, Kisuke had to hold his questions. Going along with the story he inevitably had to give up a blood sample for study which he hoped wouldn't trouble him in the long run.
After dinner he couldn't hide his curiousity and asked Kisuke for help to enter his Soul Reaper form. The instant his soul left his body there was a visible change in the air. The air shook. The ground trembled. The wind stilled and a faint howl could be heard. The air became thick and everyone felt as if trying to move through water.....well almost everyone.
"Wha....what the hell is this Kisuke ?!!" (Yoruichi)
"I don't know.....it's almost as if....the world itself is...afraid? Hostile? I don't even know how to describe it. I even feel an absurd supression... no. It's more like I have my strength but can't utilize it.... Amazing" (Kisuke)
Kagami however felt conflicted. He could feel the air stiffen and the changes in the air but he also felt as if none of it affected him. Deciding to test his theory he casually walked over to Kisuke and Yoruichi, both looking on with shocked faces. Keep in mind even they felt it was quite difficult to move but here he was moving as naturally as a fish in water.
The suppression effect soon faded and Kagami was once again barraged with questions. Of course he stuck to his story of knowing nothing but that didn't stop Kisuke from theorizing. They repeated the process several times but it never happened again. By now Kisuke was now fully motivated to train and observe Kagami as he got stronger.
The first week was nothing short of hell for Kagami. Seeing it was one thing but actually experiencing Kisuke's 'teaching' techniques made him understand just how plot armour saved Ichigo. He threw his old schedule in favor of one Kisuke drew up for him. To start he had a 10km run but with weights that tire both the body and soul. At first it actually took him half of the day to complete it. Yoruichi let it slip that they were actually weights used for seated officers in Soul Society. (A/N: 20th to 3rd seat)
The worst part is that he was denied breakfast until he finished it and was only given a single bottle of water! After managing to crawl back to the shop he had what he thought of as the best part of his day. The food served almost made up for the life threatening training....almost. He had already met Jinta and Ururu and with the latter being the chef it was obvious which he preferred. But it definitely wasn't because she was a loli...definitely not.
In truth he paid no particular attention to either of them but he would admit that she was easier to get along with than the rowdy red head. Despite the hellish training he kept his complaints minimal because he knew he'd need the strength. After breakfast, which was sometimes lunch, he'd have a 'spar' which actually meant Kisuke would utterly thrash him for hours without rest.
After finding out about his healing factor, Kisuke held nothing back, only stopping short of removing limbs. He'd then eat again and have a few hours of rest after which he'd have a self study of sorts. Initially he used it for simple exercises but Yoruichi soon got tired of seeing him waste his time.
"Hate to break it to you but that won't be of any help to you. Soul Reapers fight with their Soul, not a body. Strengthening your body only helps a certain kind of people." (Yoruichi)
Thinking about what she said raised a few questions. Soul Reapers and Hollows are technically souls so it makes sense. Quincies and fullbringers and humans that manipulate Reishi and use it to affect spiritual entities. But what about Yoruichi and the vizards ? Many times in the show Yoruichi was seen just straight up attacking stuff and the viajes never left there bodies. Is it a special technique or are there circumstances around it ?
Seeing the confusion on his face Yoruichi smiled and elaborated further. "Do you remember my cat form ? That's something unique to my clan and basically it makes me a sort of physical spirit. I have no need for a gigai but the downside is any damage to this body is directly done to the Soul."
After having his doubts cleared he stopped the exercises and asked Yoruichi to train him in stealth and speed techniques. While she didn't teach him Flash step like he hoped, she did help him in correcting his posture and simple Reishi control. He'd leave Yoruichi feeling a bit sore so he'd have a bathe and try communicating with his Zanpakuto. He'd do it right up til he felt sleepy but with little to no progress.
In this manner a week passed in no time. Despite the tough schedule, Kisuke gave him a day off every week which he decided to spend continuing his Karakura town exploration or watching a few movies. Or so he'd like to say but after a few breaks he knew the entire town by heart and got bored of movies. He now spent most of his time reading through Kisuke's library or more training.
A few months later 2 figures could be seen moving around a wasteland at high speeds. One wearing a sleeveless black jumpsuit, the other in a black coat and a dark green shirt and pants underneath. Though instead of his usual green and white bucket hat, he could be seen wearing a....Christmas hat?
"Come on Minamoto-kun. I guarantee you won't land a hit like that. You need to swing more like THIS!" (Kisuke)
FWOOM
A figure could be seen flying outward and eventually landing 100 feet from the impact. Kagami stood up despite being tired and without a word, tried to attack Kisuke again. Right before the attack seemed like it would land however, Kisuke simply stretched out and caught his asauchi with his bare hands.
"Okay great work but we're done for today. I'd prefer not working when if I don't have to so take today and tomorrow off. Merrill Christmas." (Kisuke)
"I was wondering if we'd ever stop. Well see you later. Merry Christmas." (Kagami)
Christmas was a hard time for Kagami and maybe Urahara could sense his declining spirit leading up to it. The day brought with it memories of his time on Earth, surrounded by family and friends. Of course he was thrilled at living in an Anime world but the circumstances that brought him here.....
"*Sigh..... First year all alone and nothing to do and no one to talk to. Don't know how you all are doing.... but I miss you guys. Mom, Dad, Chris, Rayanne, Katie, Summers, Miss Walter,....."
A lone youth could be seen walking the streets yet despite holding his head high, anyone could see a trace of longing on his face. Not far behind was a black cat looking on with mixed emotions. She was tasked with following him in case of Hollow attacks but she knew it was more than that. Despite not yet having his Shikai, Kagami was more than strong enough to take on the average Hollow.
'This is nothing more than Kisuke's way of keeping an eye on him. He might still have a lot of mystery about him but I know that look..... I wonder how Yushiro's doing ? Look at me getting all sentimental' (Yoruichi)
Kagami had no goal and simply walked around only stopping to buy a gift or 2. After completing his Christmas shopping, Kagami began his walk to his favorite spot in Karakura town only to be stopped. Looking in front of him Kagami struggled to hold in his laughter.
"Hey kid seems like you gots lots of money to be buying gifts ?" (Idiot #1)
"Yeah yeah. Leave all the money and walk on outta here." (Idiot #2)
"Matter of fact leave the gifties too" (Idiot #3)
At this point Kagami lost all self restraint and broke out into histerics. This was all too funny to him. These idiots were the exact trio Ichigo dealt with in the first episode. What are the odds they crossed the 2 strongest teenagers one after the other ? Deciding to blow off some steam, Kagami smiled and took slow steps towards them.
Due to them being mob characters it was expected that they weren't smart but despite feeling something off, they watch on smugly as Kagami approached. Before anything could start another person made his entrance.
"What are you 3 doing there ? Get lost before I step in." (???)
Kagami watched as the 3 expressed looks of shock then slight fear before leaving. Turning around he saw one of the main characters. Well not main but one that actually mattered in this world.
'Chad.....or was it Sado ? Damn it! Doesn't matter'
".....Are you okay?....You looked like you could handle yourself but.....better if you can avoid it" (Sado)
Kagami just stared at him without replying. He had a build that said he'd do great as a wrestler or bóxer, with brown skin and brown hair covering his eyes. He looked even more out of place than Kagami's original look. While in his thoughts Kagami stayed quiet but a flash of emotion could be seen in Sado's eyes.
The giant then turned around and slowly began walking away. Seeing this Kagami instantly knew where the misunderstanding lay. To be honest Sado was one of his favorite characters from the series. He might've been lacking strength for the later arcs but he was pretty loyal and an overall cool guy.
"Hey...thanks for that. Honestly I'm kind of new around here. You free to hang out for a bit ?"
