I took the risk adding on more jet propulsors and for once, it worked out. Probably because of my worry for Orion's group gave me gave me a sense of urgency and focus I had not had in a while. I don't know how much time has passed since I was shot down here, but any time not spent supporting Orion in battle was too much. Unfortunately, much more time was about to be spent in my own fight.
I stop short several kilometers away from the transmission site and lower Hel Knight to a hover near the side of a mountain. I peer across the horizon and spot several bright red mechs surrounding a small, makeshift, compound.
"What the hell are Ammu-Lites doing here?" I say aloud. Ammu-Lites are what you get when you mix religious zealotry, weapon worship, and a heavy dose of exceptionalism. I've only really ever seen them through holo-net propaganda, but never in real life. And boy, let me tell you this… they are no joke.
Normally I would have proceeded with caution since I am not only exhausted as hell from going berserk, but I also have nothing against other people. However, the minute the I saw one of their mechas blast a woman into dust, I instantly flew into action. I was pissed at what I saw sure, but I still only planned to disarm them so that the Federation could take them in. However… they were really testing it.
As soon as I came within a few kilometers away, I was greeted with a hail of gun fire. I formed shields using my arms and with some quick maneuvering, I was able to block and dodge most of the fire. The ones that did hit were fortunately just scrapes, however they still burned like hell. And I mean, literal hell. Back at the facility they would have me merge with Hel Knight and test its endurance by firing objects at me. They began with large rubber balls and worked their way up towards live bullets. Though one at a time, I felt the hit of the bullets and a slight pain but nothing more. Even the weapons fired by the Aliens stung, but very few hurt. No, the bullets coming from the Ammu-Lites didn't just hurt, they burned. I don't know what materials they are using but whatever it is, it needs to go asap.
"Demon," I could hear one of the mecha pilots scream as I approached closer. "Kill the demon."
Too bad for them I was already getting used to being Hel Knight as I managed to easily swoop in, form my one of my shields into a sword, and cut off the arm of one of the Ammu-Lites. I could hear the man inside swearing as I turned to quickly turned to take his other arm off. However, I was stopped shot by a powerful shot from one of his compatriots. Even though I blocked with my shield arm, I was not flown back a bit on my feet, but I could also still feel that burning sensation on my arm.
"Looks like a shield is useless if these a few of these red bastards have something with that much kick."
They quickly took advantage of the situation and began to open fire again. I put more time and focus into dodging and in the midst of it, I began to morph my body structure for more a leaner build and got rid of my shield in favor of another sword. The training in the facility may have been annoying, but it was totally worth it for as of now, I could do so many things impossible to other mechs and with ease too.
My new form allowed me to dodge the bullet fire much easier now and with no shots taken at that. It was still hard to dodge and attack but I was quickly able to find openings to where I could get close to an Ammu-Lite and make their buddies hesitate firing on their comrade long enough to disarm them. One by one they fell, each easier than the last until finally, all 13 of them were utterly incapacitated. Which in hindsight I would regret later as once I was able to free some of the researchers and began to free more, all 13 Ammu-Lite mechs self-destructed.
