Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 - The Xiao Family's Demise

Xiao Fei stumbled backwards from her mother's push and couldn't hear her mother's scream through the clamourous cheers from the spectators, and could only watch her mother's beautiful face morph into something ugly and filled with dispair as her waist was clawed in half, causing her intestines to spill out onto the sandy ground of the arena.

Xiao Fei stared with disbelief at her mother that now laid in two parts on the ground.

Meanwhile, Xiao Feng had manged to catch his breath and stand up. But he was already too late. He stared at his wife whose body had been separated in the middle and now laid in two parts on the ground and for a moment his grip around his sword loosened and he almost dropped it, but then his eyes moved to his shocked daughter.

For a moment, he thought he would loose his daughter too, but the Large Desert Lizard suddenly made a 180-degree turn and ran back toward him.

Xiao Feng forced the shock and tears back and raised his sword, and just as the Large Desert Lizard arrived he lunged his sword forward, but the Large Desert Lizard was quicker and made a sudden turn and used its long tail to sweep Xiao Feng off his feet.

Xiao Feng helplessly tumbled over and was suddenly staring up into the blue sky.

Xiao Fei saw her father being swept over and fall onto his back, then she saw the Large Desert Lizard ferociously bite down on her father's neck and pull her father's head along with his spine out of his body and casually throw it aside.

Xiao Fei couldn't understand it, it had been less than a minute since the Large Desert Lizard entered the arena, and her parents were already dead.

Xiao Fei's trembling legs lost their strength and she slumped to the ground onto her knees. A warm liquid trickled down the inside of her thighs as her face drained of all color and her big, bright eyes grew dull and forever lost their sparkly, pure, innocent light.

She couldn't move or do anything at all.

She was like a lifeless doll and could only watch as the Large Desert Lizard leisurely laid down and started tearing into her father's body and feasting on his flesh, piece by piece.

Xiao Fei's mind was completely blank, her senses were still working but no signals passed to her consciousness. She didn't think or feel or sense anything at all, like she was trapped in a void of nothiness.

But then, a flash of intense emotions flashed through the void like a lightning flash, and she screamed with a strength that couldn't possibly exist in a 10 year old girl's body.

It was a heart wrenching scream full of despair that sent chills to the hearts of the excited spectators.

When she was finally out of breath her body fell forward and she landed unconsciously on the ground.

A strange quietness spread out in the arena, all the spectators were looking at the little unconscious girl, even the Large Desert Lizard paused for a moment and looked up at her.

The air around the arena began to grow denser and the spectators felt their chests growing stuffy as the clouds in the sky began rolling and darkening as they gathered.

"What's going on?"

The spectators looked up into the changing skies as an unsettling feeling stirred in their hearts.

Day turned into night as the clouds grew darker and darker until all sunlight was blocked out and it looked like they had entered the underworld.

Thunder rumbled and lightning branched out across the dark clouds.

Then suddenly, a ray of light cracked open the dark clouds and shone down upon the arena, and a black figure appeared and slowly descended from the skies like a fallen angel.

The spectators gasped and couldn't believe their eyes.

The black figure floated down and landed next to the little girl, then it unfurled its majestic black wings and covered the entire arena with an ocean of black feathers.

Then with a single powerful flap of the wings, the black figure shot up into the skies, the girl and her parents were gone, while the Large Desert Lizard was squeezed into a bloody pulp by the fast change of air pressure.

The wind draft from the wings caused the several spectators to cough out blood and many to pass out, despite the protective barrier formation that surrounded the arena and protected the spectators from the fierce battles within.

The black figure flew up and disappeared into the crack of light in the sky and it wasn't until several moments later the skies began to calm down and the black clouds started to dissapate and bring back the previous sunny day.

The shocked spectators were disheleved and bloody and looked like they had just survived a natural disaster. The shock in their eyes didn't leave for several hours later, some would suffer from nightmares of this day for years to come, and some simply went insane and never recovered.

A few days later, in a dark cave where the only light source came from a narrow hole in the ceiling.

A hazy light shone down on Xiao Fei's beautiful face as she laid unconscious in a circle of light surrounded by darkness. Her eyelashes trembled and one could see her eyes moving rapidly underneath her closed eyelids.

"Mom!"

Xiao Fei woke up with a start and immediately felt stuffy in her throat and turned over and threw up next to her.

Once she had emptied her stomach of bile she curled up into a fetal position and hugged her legs. Her body quivered as tears began to roll down her face.

Somewhere in the darkness a pair of wild and untamed eyes opened, they stared at the young girl for a long moment before their owner started moving.

A rustling noise could be heard as the being in the darkness moved about and started moving toward girl. As it approached the circle of light its body seemed to transform and looked more and more human-like.

Xiao Fei heard someone approaching her and looked up, just in time to see a man approaching her. However, she was a bit stunned to see that his entire body was covered in black feathers. But as more and more light spilled over his body, the black feathers receded into his skin and revealed his lean, muscular body.

Xiao Fei stared at the man but didn't think too much. She was too young to appreciate his perfect, naked body, not to mention she was still in a state of apathy and shock from her parents brutal demise.

The man's eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at her, then he threw something which he held in his hand that landed with a squish on the ground in front of her.

"Eat first, then I will bring you to see your parents." The man said with a deep and slightly hoarse voice. Then he retreated back into the darkness where the black feathers once again appeared on his body.
