'...Leonhardt and Sophie held hands and together they watched the sunset. Tranquil was something they have been yearning for after days of chaotic battle. It seemed that this time, it would last longer than before.
THE END.'
I raised my brows, impressed at myself. Usually, I would feel sleepy the moment I start reading any educational material. But I managed to finish a 157-chapter novel within 2 days.
Ping!
A sound from my mobile phone signified a message was received. I clicked and opened it immediately. It was mom.
From: Mommy <3
Don't sleep too late, honey
I chuckled and shook my head. 'Back at you, Mom,' I muttered to myself as I replied to her. Mom is a worrywart; especially since I've been living away from her for a while. But I didn't hate it because it showed that she still cared for me.
Yawning, I placed my phone on the bedside table then pulled the blanket up to my chin, closing my eyes, ready to leave for Dreamland.
Click
Hm?
It was faint, but I was sure there was a sound. Almost like a careful click so as to not alert me.
I frowned. And then sat up, the blanket covering my upper body dropped onto my thighs. I lived in a small apartment on the 3rd floor and the sound of the click could only mean one thing: the front door is being opened.
Shit. Who could it be? The only person that knows my door code is my mother, but she couldn't possibly have come at this hour… Friends? I don't have any who can access my apartment freely.
Is it a robber?
With a slightly dropped jaw and tilted head (it helped me focus), I listened again.
TAP, TAP, TAP
Soft but sure, there were footsteps. I gasped lightly and my heart began racing– the realization that there was a literal stranger in my apartment dawned upon me like a sudden strike of lightning.
Cautiously, I got off the bed, grabbed anything near to me that I could use– which was the air-conditioner remote control, before tip-toeing towards the bedroom door. I was inches away from the door knob when it turned on its own and the door was opened from the outside. Reflexively, I took two steps back. My heart drummed in my ears so hard, my stomach clenched in fear.
A man clad in black with face covered except for the small pair of eyes, crept in. My eyes travelled to his hand that was holding a black SIG SAUER gun, slowly pointing towards me.
A gun!? What in the w–
'Kneel!' the man roared, gesturing towards the floor using the gun.
With a shaky breath, I knelt on the ground as instructed. Yep, this is it.
I could picture the news spreading online with a headline that a single and miserable girl was shot in a robbery attempt, only to find out that the girl was poor.
'Weapons off!'
Weapons off?
Oh–
I placed the remote control beside me on the floor and put my hands up.
And then everything happened so fast. I hadn't gotten the time to register the whole situation– when all of a sudden, he threw his gun on the floor and pulled out a dagger. While I stood there in daze, he charged at me.
I was frozen.
Too fast. My brain wasn't able to process anything.
...What?
Did I just get stabbed?
...What's this stinging pain in my chest? What's this red liquid… flowing…
My eyes watered, the pain that I felt was incomprehensible and I tried to scream but my voice was stuck in my throat.
Shit, I don't want to die yet… this is too early-
Instead, what managed to escape from my mouth was only a pathetic, helpless sound.
And then everything went black.
***
'Luna!'
'AH!' I gasped loudly and opened my eyes. My chest still felt tight. The excruciating pain from the bullet on my chest still remains.
'Luna?' I heard a male voice.
I turned my head to the source of the voice. 'Who–?' I frowned.
By my side, a red-haired man with a pair of golden eyes, was staring at me - face taut with worry. I blinked in confusion. A doctor? A nurse?
'W-Who are you?' I stuttered.
'Huh?' he returned a matching frown.
'Is this the hospital?' I asked and looked around. I was wearing a simple white dress that looked like a pyjamas or some sort. The room I was in had very huge, large windows at the side with its curtains drawn, a dressing table at one side, and a sofa and a coffee table in the middle of the room.
Is it a VIP room? It looked very grand though.
'Hospital? No, you're in your room.'
I looked back at him, confused. 'My room? No…'
And only at that moment I realized my voice was different from before. I covered my mouth in bewilderment. What the hell?
'Luna,' the man said and reached out to hold my hand. I flinched and backed away. He retracted his hand.
'What's this? Who are you? Where am I?' I bombarded him with question after question.
He gaped in surprise. 'Luna…'
'Who's Luna?'
He seemed to understand, because his expression suddenly softened. 'Did you lose your memories?' he asked gently.
'What? No, I didn't… there was an intruder and I was stabbed…' I muttered.
'Stabbed?' he tried to smile, shaking his head from side to side. 'No, you were attacked by bandits.'
Bandits? Such people still exist now?
When he saw my troubled expression, he touched my hand, this time I didn't refuse. 'The fact that I'm still here means you're back for real,' he whispered with a low voice.
I raised my brows. 'What?'
He shook his head, smiling. 'Luna Eir Seraphinus,' he said. Something in my mind ticked. Why does it sound oddly familiar?
'The Primeval Magician of the Magus Turrim,' he continued. 'The Emperor's personal magician.'
'I'm a what??' my brows furrowed until my head hurt. 'For whom???'
'A magician,' he repeated. 'For the Emperor of Sirius, Lucilius Yves Theodore.'
Who!?
Theodore… Theodore… I knew that name from somewhere… I closed my eyes, trying to remember.
Sirius… that sounds very similar to the country that I…
read…
from…
"The hateful Emperor of Sirius was hanged in public, which serves as a reminder for the people of how the brave Crown Prince of Alshain defeated the emperor of a neighboring country."
It can't be…
For some reason, that very phrase appeared in my mind.
And I can't believe that I am about to say this but…
Isn't it…
The web novel!?
