The next day
The sunlight was already streaming through the curtains, landing on Rebecca's eyelid.
She creased her brows and rolled on the bed, as her eyes adjusted to the brightness of the sunshine pouring through.
Then memories of last night event flooded her memory. Rebecca reached for her phone on the bedside table and dialed Dickson's number. But when he didn't answered she lay back down on the soft bed, soon after her phone rang.
Thinking it was Dickson, she hurriedly picked it up without checking the caller ID.
"Dickson?" She answered.
"Rebecca, it's Jaquan. Are you okay?" Jaquan asked with a frown on his face.
"Jay. Hey," Rebecca chirped but it was all a pretense.
"Is it okay if I drop by?" Jaquan asked.
Rebecca wanted to say, no it wasn't but instead she said the opposite. "Yes, we're friends silly, it's totally fine."
"Okay. I'll see you in the next hour," Jaquan said but it sounded like a question.
"Okay, see ya," Rebecca chirped and ended the call.
A groan left her mouth as she flopped down on the bed. After what felt like hours Rebecca gathered her strength and made her way out of bed.
Just then a knockedcame from the front door, thinking maybe it was Dickson she rushed downstairs. But to her disappointment it was Tracey, the girl who became her best friend.
Tracy was a nineteen year old dropped out university student. She had black hair with purple highlights that was in a bob cut and emerald green eyes. She was the complete opposite of Kira in everyway, yet still Rebecca and her has gotten along so well.
"You don't look too happy to see me?" Tracy stated the obvious with a deep frown.
Rebecca sighed, making way for Tracy to entered the apartment.
"So?" Tracy questioned, flopping down on the couch.
"Dickson cheated on me," Rebecca mumbled as she sat beside Tracy.
"That dick!" Tracy cursed, "I'm so sorry, Dickson had always been a good for nothing."
"He hadn't call, nor is he answering my calls." Rebecca explained feeling abandoned yet again by another person she loved.
"He will come around," Tracy smile at her. "But when he does what will you do?"
"I haven't given much thought about it," Rebecca said honestly before quickly switching the topic. "Do you want a beer?"
Tracy only nodded as she lit another one of her cigar, "I'm thinking about getting a hair cut." Rebecca stated as she entered into the small living room.
"But you have nice hair," Tracy pouted as the took the beer from Rebecca's hand.
"I'm thinking of getting a pixie cut and dyed it brown," Rebecca said before taking a gulped from her beer.
"Okay," Tracy answered, tapping away on her phone.
"Do you want to move in?" Rebecca asked, taking a puff from Tracy's cigar.
"Are you serious?" Tracy asked stunned by Rebecca questioned.
"Why not?" Rebecca shrugged with a smile.
"Thank you, Becca." Tracy embraced her in a hug, "But, where do you suggest I stay, seeing that it's only two rooms?"
"In Kira's room, silly."
"But what about her stuff?" Tracy inquired.
"We get rid of them," Rebecca shrugged casually.
"But what if..."
"No what ifs Tracy. She up and left without even a call I'm getting rid of her stuffs." Rebecca said sternly, taking a swing from her beer.
The girls chatted for some time and then Tracy left, soon after there was a knocked on the door.
"Come in!" Rebecca shouted.
"Rebecca?" Jaquan asked in disbelief. The living room was no longer how he had remembered it, but now it was like a junkie apartment.
"Jay," Rebecca smile, patting the space next to her.
"What is going on with you?" He asked, looking at the girl with bird nest hair.
"I've never been more alived, Jay." Rebecca giggled.
"Let's get this mess clean up," Jaquan muttered and Rebecca grabbed his arm.
"No!"
"The place is a mess, Rebecca," he explained.
"I said leave it!" She shouted then burst out sobbing.
Not knowing what to say, he pulled her in a tight hugged while she sobbed on his chest. After Jaquan had gotten her to calm down she drifted off to slumber.
He lifted her in a bridal style and brought her to her room, then he went back to the living room to cleaned the messed.
***
After hours of cleaning, Jaquan was finally able to breathe. The apartment was spotless, he even went out and by real foods and gotten rid of all the beers. The apartment was how he had remembered it but she was still missing.
Shaking all thought away of her, he went to the kitchen to prepare soup for Rebecca. He knew she hadn't been in a good place and he felt guilty for not being here.
He even dicided on booking her in a rehabilitation center but later went against it. Just as he was about to climb the stairs the front door was pushed opened on a female stepped inside.
"Aren't you that girl?" Jaquan asked with a raise brow.
"This girl is Rebecca new roommate," she answered. "Is there a problem?"
Jaquan shook his head and proceeded up the stairs, with his jaw clenched.
"New roommate huh?" He asked soon as he entered the room.
"I thought you have left?" Rebecca asked instead of answering his questioned.
"She's gone, Jay." Rebecca sighed, "Get over it."
"Here," he handed her the bowl of soup.
"Rebecca, you won't believe what just happened," Tracy said her eyes red and puffy like she'd been crying.
"What happened?"
"Dickson is... Is gone."
"What do you mean he's gone?" Rebecca asked, swallowing the lump in her throat.
"Can you not do this now?" Jaquan glared at Tracy but when he realized she had no intention of staying quite he tugged at her arm.
"What is going on!" Rebecca demanded, looking at Jaquan and Tracy.
"Dickson is dead," Tracy blurted.
"What?" Rebecca asked in a meek voice, "Is this true?" She asked Jaquan who was glaring at Tracy but when he didn't answered, she asked.
"Is that the reason why your suddenly interested in seeing me?" But when he still hadn't answered she yelled. "Get out!"
