Chapter 31 - Suspect

What puzzled the manager was that after Han Xiang left, Gu Yuan's secretary sneaked into the reception room and quickly walked out.

The manager was stunned and asked, "What is this...?"

The secretary glanced at him and coldly said, "Don't ask unnecessary questions." Then, she also left.

As soon as Han Xiang returned home, she sent a message to Chang Ying, "Ying, tomorrow, your racing life is about to begin. Be prepared."

After hearing the news that her oldest brother, Han Yuan, had returned, Han Xiang ignored the messages and phone calls from Chang Ying. She threw her phone away and went downstairs to look for Han Yuan.

Han Yuan was hungrily eating seafood porridge in the restaurant. When he saw Han Xiang, his brows relaxed and he said, "Xiang Xiang, there's a new discovery."

It turned out that the police had accidentally captured a drug addict who was also smoking a large amount of drugs in the area surrounding the three dead informants. As Han Yuan led the team to capture him in time, he was saved. The drug addict had overdosed on drugs until he was delirious, but Han Yuan and his team had arrived just in time.

In the incoherent confession from the drug addict that followed, Han Yuan extracted a few key pieces of information: this person knew the three dead people, the drugs they were smoking came from the same handler, and they had even contacted each other not long ago.

Other than this, there was no other useful information from this drug addict. Han Yuan's timely arrival had only saved his life, but not his mental state.

The underground organization in charge of this was probably huge. Not only could it supply the flow of drugs in a region for a long time, it could also develop a large number of offline sources, as well as connect one ring after another meticulously.

If Han Xiang's kidnapping had not happened by chance this time, it was unknown how far the details of this organization would spread.

But when Han Yuan wanted to investigate the suspects based on the local network in S City, he encountered a lot of resistance.

When he went to the public security department to get information, the officer rejected Han Yuan on the grounds of "Insufficient authority." The captain of the anti-drug squad also hinted that this move would consume a lot of manpower and material resources, so no matter how he investigated, he would not be able to find anything.

With Han Yuan's authority in the army, he could not step into the Public Security Department to intervene. Thus, Han Yuan sought help from his good friend of many years, Luo Ao, and finally locked down a few suspicious people.

Luo Ao worked in the public security department and seemed to know some inside information about this matter. However, he could not say it directly. He could only try his best to get the information that Han Yuan needed to help him narrow down the scope.

Therefore, the documents that Han Xiang was currently looking at included the files of several key personnel.

Suspect Number One was Zhang Chou. He was responsible for more than half of the underground industry in S City. He had just been released from prison a few years ago. After he was released from prison, he acted quite cautiously and they could not find any evidence against him.

However, considering all the abnormal circumstances, Zhang Chou was the only one who could control such a huge network of people.

The second suspect, Gong Chang, was the second-in-command of the S City government. He started from a small cadre at the grassroots level and had reached his current position. He was low-key and humble. Not only did Gong Chang have a clean record, but his father was also a veteran of the anti-Japanese war. He seemed like an upstanding citizen of the country.

How could such an upstanding middle-aged man be suspected?

"When I was dealing with the police, I ran into a lot of obstacles. Later, when I was investigating in secret, I found out that the people who were obstructing my investigation more or less had something to do with Gong Chang," Han Yuan explained to Han Xiang.

His good friend Luo Ao also said that Gong Chang was not as clean as he looked.

Han Xiang looked at the profile picture of the elegant and fair man on the document and felt that it was very familiar. She seemed to have seen him somewhere before.

Wait a minute, why did he have the same surname as the male lead?

The male lead of the book was called Gong Chen, and he only appeared after the protagonist had grown up. His family background was not as prominent as the Han family's. His parents seemed to be civil servants, and the infatuated protagonist had spent all her efforts to help Gong Chen enter the upper class of S City, and Gong Chen had actually conspired with other people to bring down the Han family behind the protagonist's back, turning the protagonist into a sacrifice.

At the end of the plot, when the protagonist accidentally found out the truth and quarreled with Gong Chen, Gong Chen was so angry that he revealed that he had caused the death of the protagonist's biological parents. Not only did the poor protagonist not know who her biological parents were... she was once again separated from them, and then her depression flared up and she slit her wrists to commit suicide.

From the looks of it, the identity of the male lead, Gong Chen, was actually not as simple as the so-called civil servant family. It was very likely that he had a relationship with Gong Chang.

Han Xiang originally wanted to wait until the protagonist became an adult before dealing with the relationship between the male lead and the protagonist. She did not expect that this matter would expose the suspicious nature of the male lead so early on.

Before Han Xiang could ask any questions, Han Yuan received a call from his good friend, Luo Ao. Han Yuan got up and went to a quieter study on the first floor to answer the call.

Three minutes later, Han Yuan returned with a conflicted look on his face.

He looked at Han Xiang and the first thing he said was, "The drug addict who was saved, just committed suicide by ingesting poison at the detention center."
