Earth, the planet that managed to foster life in harsh and unending darkness, has gone through the ravages of time, experiencing the change of eras to become what we see today.
In an artificial park, a group of scientists eye a clutch of eggs. Specifically one with a four inch radius. Shaking intermittently in telltale signs of imminent breakthrough. Birth.
"Status of Subject line W1W8RM has reached the initial alpha variant levels." Proffessor Zink droned with an undermined satisfaction.
Such a mood carried through the control room. This was not the first time they'd dove into the domains forbidden to man and come out victorious. Yes, they had their fair share of failures but they weren't Wargle Dome's most trusted affiliates for nothing.
At the helm of operations Dr. Vareous felt it was time to get things rolling. " Has the Android been primed?"
"Yes director, so are the implants." Head technician; Proffessor Synthia Argix promted as softly as ever, radiating a demure indifference.
Clicking a holographic key, a hole opened a hundred and sixty meters away from the eggs. In it a 5" by 5" box resided.
Under the absolute law of gravity, it soon met the ground with a muffled boom. Soon, fluctuating lights appeared on the visible grids adorning it. In three seconds flat, it disassembled like a blooming lotus revealing a komodo dragon Android model coming to life.
Swiftly righting it's curled body and getting it's legs beneath itself, it blitzed towards the eggs slowing down in front of the tree hole that housed the eggs. Providing the watchers in the control room another point of view.
The largest egg was now presented in higher detail. Adorned with a black, red and green patterns like an endless branching network of strieks. Finally, a breach appeared in the convoluted artwork featured on the leathery egg.
The head of a komodo hatchling popped out, calmly sampling the air,...a proper, cold-blooded hunter down to its genes.
Like the strange egg, it's inhabitant already showed quer attributes, like it's four eyes, red ridged spine and well developed teeth. Everything else like it's black scales, reptilian head and tail not diverging from it's species description.
W1W8RM opened his eyes. Golden reptilian sclera took in light. Warming its inner flames, flames of curiosity, flames of budding ambition and flames of hunger that would spell an upset for many unfortunate souls in the future!
Breaking it's shell and emerging completely, Subject W1W8RM eyed the other eggs close by. It's curiosity reared a sinister head. When W1W8RM was close enough, it bit through his sibling's encasement getting to a malformed brother which it promptly began to feast on. Unbothered by their sheer likeness it obviously considering itself a different species altogether.
Seeing this watchers in the control room had an increase in satisfaction. Welcoming the juvenile display of cannibalism. The carcass being dragged through the dirt looked like a trophy to both perpetrator and audience.
The Android model komodo dragon crawled by when W1W8RM had finished his gruesome meal. Swiftly, it attached a neurolink chip in the middle of the young thing's head.
What soon started out as head bobbing in discomfort, gradually climbed to full on thrashing as the nanites got to work establishing a connection and implanting data.
5 minutes later
W1W8RM had calmed down and surprisingly soon, formed cohesive and structured thoughts.
"This place is my hunting ground," He seethed mentally, quietly continuing. "I have to be it's apex predators so I don't get slaughtered like my sibling."
.......
In the control room, various protocols were being activated due to W1W8RM's birth. While everyone had doned concentrated expressions, a single individual still had a smile stuck on his face.
"A predator will never tolerate upstarts eyeing it's prey, so I bid you luck on your journey to come." the director's fleeting steps graced the room, his unrestrained laughter so out of place.
In the dark more... monumental changes were in motion, changes that would affect a certain world's populace sentient or not.
