I pressed forward with my body and gently kicked the horse's thighs with my heels to accelerate. I felt the icy wind hit my face. I wanted to break my record and go faster than ever before.
Riding was liberating for me. Especially the way I did it. I would ride a horse in the same position as a man: with my legs spread.
"That's not the way for a decent young lady," my mother kept telling me.
But to hell with "decent young ladies". Riding sideways, with closed legs is mentally retarded. There was only one way to lie on horseback: the right one.
I rode through the snow-covered hills, looked back, and the northern capital was shrinking on the horizon.
"Lady Sabine, we are getting too far away!" exclaimed Bikendi, the stable boy in charge of accompanying me.
"That's what I want, Bikendi!" I replied with a smile. "I want to reach the forest of visions!"
Bikendi's eyes widened.
