Chapter 14 - Without scape - Ep 3 - part 5

"They found us," Delilah warned. "The Duke's soldiers are coming for us."

There were too many and there was no way to escape.

I saw the banner of house Al-Thule over the heads of the soldiers, a black snake on a yellow field.

"What are we going to do?" I asked worriedly.

"We must take advantage of the fact that they have not seen us yet" replied Delilah.

She took me by the hand, we got on the horse and we reached the west side of the field of purple flowers. A chill ran down my spine when I saw them.

So, the field of the purple flowers was between us and the upcoming soldiers.

"Delilah? What's the plan?"

"Improvise."

We got off the horse and hid in some bushes next to the flower field.

I didn't know if it was very cold or if I was shivering with fear.

I prayed to the Saint of travel.

«Please, My Holy Lady, protect us»

A couple of soldiers approached the field.

"I'm sure they are the footprints of a horse," said one.

The footsteps! How stupid we were!

"We are lucky that they have been so careless," replied the other.

Delilah made a sign to me to keep quiet and bent over, she began to move towards where the pair of soldiers were.

«What are you doing, Delilah?»

She was very stealthy. She drew her sword, moved with the speed of a cat, and FUSH! She slit the throat of one of the soldiers. By the time Delilah wanted to attack the second one, he had already drawn and managed to block the gash that went to his throat.

He and Delilah crossed steel until the soldier took a horn and blew on it. The sound was so powerful that it was heard throughout the forest.

By the saints! Now we will have all the soldiers on us!

Delilah brandished her sword and cut off the arm with which her enemy held the horn, but it was too late. He had already given notice.

We are lost…

As the soldier bled from the wound on his severed arm, Delilah looked for me.

"Bachué! Get on the horse and run away!" She screamed.

"No, sacrifice the horse, dark-skin," Queen Catherine told me.

"What? Sacrifice the horse? " I asked confused.

"Yes, hit it so it gallops in the direction to the flower field," she explained to me. "When it steps on them it will release poisonous gas. The soldiers will not be able to follow us. "

I saw dozens of torches approaching through the trees. And I heard horses gallop.

"What are you waiting for, Bachué!" Delilah yelled at me again-

I gulped. I looked into the horse's eyes. I only found innocence.

"He will surely die," I said.

The soldiers were closer.

"Better it than you," the Queen replied. "If you die I'm gone forever."

"Delilah, come! I have an idea!" I screamed.

Delilah ran and flanked the flower field as fast as she could.

"Forgive me ...," I spoke to the horse before hitting him on the hind thighs. The beast grated and galloped straight, toward the field of flowers.

Delilah came to where I was, I grabbed her by the arm and we started running.

"What did you do, Bachué?"

I did not answer.

The horse that until that moment had been my traveling companion stepped on the flowers as he galloped. Clouds of purple gas floated through the air. They were dense and scattered around the place at high speed.

I heard the beast scream in pain and then… the soldiers did the same.

«I'm sorry, I'm so sorry… »

I had just sent an animal and countless soldiers to their deaths.

«I'm sorry, I'm so sorry… »

I wanted to vomit, but there was no time for that, we had to run.
