The smell of bacon wafts her senses, pulling her away from the vivid sketch of midnight blue, she pulls her hoodie overhead, cuddling into the fabric and the dark hair that acted as a curtain into a bun.
She follows the scent downstairs, her mind in a trance as she sits at the table ignoring the eyes that followed her movement. She grabs a hand full of bacon stuffing some in her mouth and the rest being piled onto her plate.
She moans at the grease and sour but sweet pungent taste, she closes her eyes to savour the flavour as it drains down her throat, but feeling that something's missing she moves heading towards the sink for a cup of water, "Where were you yesterday?" she chokes on the water at her mother's voice.
"Morning mother," she turns meeting her mother's auburn eyes, "couldn't let me finish my water before attempting to kill me?".
Her mother rolls her eyes at her daughter's antics, she scoffs, "Why did Nicco drop off your unconscious body?",
Alanis simply shrugs, sitting at the marble table and giving all her attention back at the bacon in front of her, "Well?", her mother inquired.
She sighed, "I was at the bonfire with Nicco, he made me go to celebrate my birthday," she explained, "or wasn't I allowed to celebrate my birthday?".
Her eyes met her mothers, one's that were brewing in regret and Alanis couldn't decide if she should be happy that her mother was finally feeling emotions or devastated that, that was the only emotion her mother knew.
"It's my birthday remember but I wouldn't hold it to you if you forgot, I forgot too".
The silence between them was uncomfortable that Alanis couldn't enjoy her breakfast any longer, so she left her mother in the kitchen heading upstairs to get ready for school.
She spent most of her time in the shower, contemplating and surfing through her emotion, memories trying to find a memory that she remembers seeing her mother smile, but she grew frustrated when the only memories she could find were covered in cobwebs and dust.
Getting out of the shower, she drank her pills not wanting to receive the excruciating headache she got yesterday at school because if she didn't, her mother would drag her down to the pack clinic at least she knew her mother didn't want her dead.
Pulling on her jeans and maroon long sleeved-vest, she grabs her coat and drags her feet downstairs. She passes the kitchen, watching her mother do the dishes but she knew her mother's mind was far from dishes.
She stands at Mr Edgar's driveway, listening for anything from his house and the silence only makes her queasy, her worry growing in the pits of her stomach.
She sighs as she enters the school building going straight for her locker, her mind too busy to see the brown-headed boy leaning against her locker.
Her brows scrunch in confusion when she sees him, confused at the expression on his face she asks, "what's wrong?".
Nicco gives her a hug, inhaling her scent, "nothing… just..your scent's changed".
She's sceptical for a moment before calling out to her wolf only to receive silence as her wolf resides in her cave in solitude blocking her from entering.
The bell rings pulling her out of her confusion, she heads to class sitting in the back of the classroom and watches as students pile in the class, her mind still trying to understand what Nicco told her.
The classes pass by quickly and soon enough lunch was in session, she finds Nicco at their table and she notices how he keeps looking at the 'The Heads Junior' table.
"what's up?" he hums before shaking his head, "nothing just thinking some things through"
"what you thinking about?", she asks grabbing the pizza from in front of him.
"Zachery- he told me he wants to give us a chance."
"Nicco, he has no choice."
"Yes, but this is a big step but- but he doesn't want anyone to know yet", Nicco turns watching his mate cuddle with the she-wolf, "he won't even break up with her".
Her eyes automatically look at Zac and his crew and she wanted to do was go over there and tell him that he is a lousy, good for nothing alpha if he rejects the Moon's blessing. He's going against all they were taught.
She rolls her eyes grabbing Nicco's hand from across the table, "hey at least you have me,", she assures him, but he scoffs removing his hand from hers," what about your mate?"
"Haven't met him yet," she shrugs going back to the pizza, "you're kidding right, you met him alright that's why your scent has changed, it means you completed the bond", he explains with a smug look.
"That's impossible, I think I would remember my mate,"
He stays silent, his black eyes watching her closely before speaking again, "How many cups of that punch did you drink?"
Shrugging, she shakes her head trying to remember, "I don't know maybe 8 or 13"
" 13!!", he shouts attracting unwanted attention, " Crow, you know there was wolfs-bane in that punch right, it gives werewolf this numb feeling basically like getting drunk the way humans do," he huffs sinking in his seat, "you probably had enough wolfs-bane to make an alpha tipsy and considering you didn't take your pills yesterday-
"How do you know I didn't take them?"
" I'm not your mother Crow, can't slip things past me," he says giving her a look, " anyway, you didn't take your pills yesterday thus you were already weak and then you had wolfs-bane, dude you were downgraded to human", he chuckles at the end.
Alanis scolds herself for drinking too much for not remembering her own mate. Her emotions were everywhere and she looked around the cafeteria, trying to see if she would find him but her hopes were shut down when she didn't get a whiff of him.
Feeling stupid, she finishes the slice of pizza before running away to class when the bell rang. She huffs in her seat feeling humiliated that she had completed the bond with her mate but she doesn't even remember him.
She groaned with all the questions flying at her, what if her mate didn't want her? What if she already knows who her mate is but just didn't realize it? What if the goddess was playing with her wolf?
She feels warmth envelope her and she lifts her head from her arms, starring into the sapphire ones.
"Luca."
Something shifts in his cold eyes before returning to the Luca she knows but he does something that confuses her, his lips quirk as if wanting to smile.
"Alanis."
