Chapter 43 - Chapter Forty Three: Fear the Night Stalker

He walked towards the general, weaving back and forth to evade all the fighting around him. General Christina noticed him coming her way, appearing to wear a black shell and causing her to turn towards him, the humans having learned to stay away from her if they valued their lives. Even covered in his black liquid, he felt like he was standing in the middle of an inferno, and hoped that his ability didn't slow him down too much.

He thought the general would insult his appearance, or tell him how foolish he was. Instead she rushed him without a word, swinging her axe as she continued her laughing, the only one finding this fun. His ability would also protect him from any physical attacks, as it was as tough as metal if not tougher, and he stabbed at her face as she attacked. Their attacks both landed, and her eyes filled with surprise as her axe hit his ability and simply bounced off, not even denting it.

He had aimed for her eye, but she moved her head at the last second, his sword skidding off of her helmet and knocking her head to the side, where she took a couple steps back, looking at her axe with frustration. His armor and ability would protect him from her attacks, but it also slowed him down, and he knew that she could make her ability hotter if she wanted to.

As if reading his mind, the heat around him increased again, and even with his ability, his armor began heating up and he could feel his skin protesting against the heat, knowing that it would not be long until it was pain he began to feel. He rushed towards her this time, his sword dancing its deadly tune as he stabbed at her as fast as he could while being restricted.

She moved with experience, evading his blows and swinging her axe back. He heard her growl with frustration as it bounced off of his ability again, and he teleported right in front of her, seeing surprised fill her eyes as he grabbed her armor and roared, hip tossing her over and onto the ground. She hit the ground hard with a grunt of pain, her heat reacting and increasing even further, to where he could feel his skin beginning to get burned beneath his ability, and he stabbed down at her, aiming for any gap in her armor he could find.

She blocked with her arm, his sword piercing the thinner metal and sinking into her flesh. He tore the sword out, seeing her raise her leg and kick him in the gut, his ability absorbing the blow but still knocking him back as she got up, charging him without hesitation. He panted, sweating profusely with his entire body screaming in pain, and decided to do something risky.

Just as she reached him, swinging her axe again, he suddenly changed his black liquid, turning it back into a liquid and moving out of it. The heat was so intense that his mind went blank, his cloak catching on fire and his entire body howling in agony. Her axe hit his black liquid again, but this time it sunk into it, and the ability moved and grabbed her arm as well, forcing her to stay put as she looked over at him, eyes growing wide with fear as he roared and stabbed at her eye again.

She still moved her head, but he saw the tip of his sword pierce her eye just as she did, the sword knocking her helmet off as her short black hair caught fire as well, the vampire unable to flee because of his ability. His entire body screaming in pain, unable to think, he reacted on instinct, yanking his helmet off and nearly crying out in pain as the heat hit his bare face. She glared at him with her remaining eye until he teleported next to her, one hand grabbing her head and yanking it back, and her eye held nothing but fear as he opened his mouth and sunk his fangs into her throat.

She tried to push him off weakly with her left arm, screaming in pain and anger, but he simply held on and drained her life, her hot blood hitting his mouth and making him bite down harder. He lifted her up, yanking his head back and tearing her throat open, her blood spraying out and giving his burning skin a second of relief as he drank her blood, eyes closing from the blood hitting them.

She was alive for a few more seconds, unable to do anything as she bled to death, then the heat suddenly vanished, Jack throwing her body to the side and turning to the remaining vampires, eyes glowing, face covered in burns and blood. He saw that there was only three vampires left, with one still fighting the humans and the other two his group. The one fighting the humans froze at the sight of Jack, the expression of pure fear flashing across his face as he took a step back.

"He-he killed the general. What kind of-"

He would not get to finish, as Jack teleported behind him, grabbing the vampire's shoulders and covering him with his black liquid, restraining him to that spot as the vampire struggled in vain, screaming his head off in fear.

"I have some questions for you, so you stay put." Jack said, wondering how badly his body would hurt when the adrenaline wore off. He turned to the last two, but they were the only smart vampires. The one that had been phasing through the ground earlier popped up next to the one Drake had been fighting, grabbing the vampire and pulling him underground, the two vanishing out of sight.

Jack fell to one knee, his entire body hurting but also growing warm, something that always happened when he absorbed another vampires ability. He would grow warm and tingly all over, his mind and body suddenly learning how to use the ability as if he had been born with it. He wondered how useful this new ability would be, hearing voices faintly as his mind went blank, and he passed out, everything turning black.
