"Assignment Registration. How can I help you today?" the attendant on the registration counter asked.
"Please give me the next available assignment with immediate deployment. Is there any defending mission available?" Li-Xin asked while placing his hand on the biometric scanner. His file was immediately taken out into the display for the attendant to search for a suitable task he's allowed to take.
In this office here, everything is depending on how nice his record was compiled. The assignment and reward also vary according to how well they're doing their job. It might sound like a form of favoritism is practiced over here, but that's actually normal.
And the favoritism works. Getting a better offer wouldn't be a problem if one could maintain the assignment completion rate.
Furthermore, each of the assignment attendants has partial responsibility for the team they assembled.
Their responsible over the team includes their equipment, protection, transportation, and claims. The better the group performs, the higher the reward they receive on completion. It was not rare to have a total loss over the team they put together in an assignment.
"Ceh!" the female attendant clicked her tongue in reply to Li-Xin's words. "Is this your first time going for a mission? Don't you know that those assignments have to be taken few days before the deployment day?" she added.
"Fine. Then what kind of assignment is available right now? Is there one that I can go for it ASAP?" Li-Xin wasn't interested in arguing with her. She was not wrong anyway. If it's not because he bought the Merciless Override Chip yesterday, he wouldn't have to get a mission in a hurry like now.
The 1,500 Geass he used on the chip itself is enough for three days of living cost. Even four days wasn't a problem if he took the beer off from the daily expenses.
"Two collections and one extraction mission available. All three teams require one more member. Do you want it?" the attendant asked and moved the three detail of the three available assignments to the upper panel for Li-Xin to choose one.

It took him less than five minutes to go through the three job descriptions. But they're not as simple as he has thought. Especially on the second Collection Assignment, it was no different from delivering himself to his death if he took that.
This means he's left with the first Collection Mission or the Extraction Mission. And after some consideration, Li-Xin decided to take the first collection mission.
His reason for choosing this mission over the Extraction assignment was that the risk on this mission is lower than the other. Also, what he wanted was a quick in and out for some fast cash.
"Alright. I had you registered. This camcorder is fitted with your serial code. I'll be taking you to the operation room right now, so please follow me," said the female attendant.
The two of them soon walked through a corridor leading to the flying hanger. Using an access card to open the door into the briefing room, the female attendant made sure she introduced everyone before applying for their departing flight.
It took the hanger five minutes to get the flight down to Planet Lucent ready. Putting on all the equipment, Li-Xin boarded the Dropship. Joining him were nineteen other soldiers. But these soldiers evidently have less discipline compared to the previous Defense Assignment.
Even the leader looks no different from a drunkard that recently emptied his pocket.
The female attendant gives them a wave before returning to her post. But it seems that nobody is bothered to look at her, except for Li-Xin.
A beautiful planet with a greenish surface came into their view once Dropship gets out from the mothership. It took them close to fifteen minutes to travel from the mothership to the planet and another five minutes to get through the burning atmosphere.

The ejection button was pressed the moment the pilot finished with his instruction. Their landing is different from the usual because the Dropship was landed during the ejection.
A different team immediately started their work by pushing their filled canister into the Dropship. As for people like Li-Xin and the others, their job is to get these canisters filled. There are a hundred canisters in a carton.
Each of them was 150cm long, with an actual weight of 5.5kg when it is empty.
Their mission is simple. All Li-Xin had to do was to drag a canister over to the pool and start the suction process to get it filled. The canister will be weighed around 30kg when it was completely filled.
He would be pocketing 200 Geass for each canister as long he can get more than two canisters.
Of course, that's if the process of filling them is as easy as he thought.
