As the howls drew closer and louder, I summoned Rathalos, Rex, Blair, and Zombieman. That seemed like enough, although if the number of enemies was greater than I imagined then I'd summon the rest to help.
"Oh is it time to fight?" Blair asked.
"Yes, we've got beats incoming," I explained. It seems from all over."
Rex and Rath both simultaneously let out loud roars in response to the howls, but that only set off more in response. We all prepared our weapons as we awaited the beasts. Leone let out brought forth her tengu as Zombieman summoned his dual hand cannons. Blair summoned a large pumpkin to sit on and floated up into the air where she snapped her fingers and created half a dozen explosive flaming pumpkins, ready to be launched at our approaching enemies.
I focused and with a simple command, Migi turned my right arm into a wicked blade while I used attack force on 2B. I felt a flood of information enter my mind, knowledge, and the necessary skill o how to fight using 2B's weapons along with other things. I summoned her blade into my hand and grinned. Its weight felt perfect in my hand thanks to my attack force skill.
"Here they come!" Leone announced and we all looked up and around just in time to see a literal swarm of wolf-like beasts crawling down the mountains on all sides. Like something out of game or nightmare, they looked like a mix of wolf and insect, which green-colored carapace like shells, but wolf-like bodies. Their claws clearly allowed them to climb easily as they seemed to have no trouble heading down the mountainsides.
"From below to!"
I heard the sound of a loud gunshot just as I turned and saw one of the beasts crawl over the side of the space we were on. The bullet tore through its head and sent it back down to where it had come from, but there was no time to rest as half a dozen more crawled towards us.
"Take them down!" I shouted as I leaped towards the beasts crawling up to us.
The first fell to my katana as I blocked the claws of a second with my flesh blade. The sound of claw on my hardened flesh rang out, but unlucky for the beasts, Migi had plenty of tricks. My blade-like limb extended and twisted around the beast, and with a single swing, the beast's head was lopped clean off.
It felt exhilarating, moving around with the skills of 2B while welding her blade. I dodged and flipped over attacks with ease and tore the beast apart with my blades.
There was a lull in the fighting after I'd taken out around a dozen of them and I turned to see how my summons were doing.
The first thing I noticed was the charred corpses around Gible who was setting the beasts alight with his flamethrower and burrowing whenever they tried to swarm him. He tore his way out of the ground behind one of the beasts and his claw flashed into metal as he brought it down and smashed open his enemy's head. Before the beasts around him could even react, he dug back into the ground and towards his next target.
Blair was laughing as the beasts feebly tried to reach her, and each of her flaming pumpkins sent corpses flying in all directions. She was definitely like artillery.
Asara's twin-blade flashed as she danced around her opponents and created her sphere of death, which no beasts left alive once they entered.
Leone and Lilah seemed to be having no trouble either. Lilah tore through them with her deadly grace, skill, and killer precision. Each attack was designed to kill, and it showed. With each swing, beasts fell. Leone was a lot more savage, though she tore through just as many with her claws. The levels they'd gained were really showing. These beasts were no threat to either of them.
Zombieman looked like he usually did battle. He didn't look like he was in the middle of a fight. His face was calm and relaxed as he disemboweled beasts with his axe and machete. He didn't dodge any of their attacks as he didn't need to. Any damage was healed almost instantaneously, and none of the beasts that struck got any time to celebrate their apparent victory.
Then there was Rex and Rath. The beasts around were pilled high. Rex looked like he was having the time of his life, as ripped beasts after beasts apart with savage glee. Rath's tail swept beasts away and his blast of fire, took them out by the dozens.
There must have been hundreds of them, but it looked like none of us were getting a challenge. We'd come quite far, and my summons who had already been powerful when we'd first met, were now even more powerful.
In what seemed like less than ten minutes, the flood of beasts had turned into a trickle, and those left had actually started to run away.
"Is that it?" Leone asked with a yawn. "I was expecting something more."
Almost as if in response to her words, there was a howl louder than any before. We all turned in its direction to see a beast similar to the one's we'd just fought, but far larger, Unlike the corpses around us, this insect wolf had a purplish carapace. It let out a roar that sounded high-pitched enough that I wouldn't be surprised if it could break glass.
"I guess that's the boss?" I asked. "Who wants it?"
Before anyone could reply, Rex let out a roar of challenge and charged toward the beasts. The purple beast leapt from its position attached to the side of the mountain above us, its eyes locked onto Rex as its maw opened to reveal row after row of needle-like teeth.
Rex let out a low growl and tensed as the beast drew closer. We all waited with bated breath as the two beasts prepared to fight.
When the purple beast was only a few feet away, it aimed its claws at Rec, but the hybrid dinosaur was long gone. It had predicted the attack and its tail swept down, sending the beast crashing into the ground. Before it could rise, Rex's latched its teeth around its throat, and with a powerful tug, the beasts went limp as its neck was snapped like a twig.
"Damn," I muttered.
"He is quite the fearsome beast," Asara noted. "A predator, through and through."
That was putting it mildly.
"Well now that's over, I think I'm going to get some sleep," I said as I sent everyone, but Lilah and Leone into storage. "What a way to start our hunt."
