The next two days flew by quickly as I began the most boring part of being a king. The endless amounts of paperwork and information I would need to know about everything going on in the kingdom. Of course, I had Richard and Susana to help me, but they could only do so much as they had their own tasks to complete.
Taking in the information they set in front of me wasn't that difficult but it quickly got to a point where I wanted to pass out from boredom, especially when I got to the production rates, the income, and the spending parts. God if I never had to go through that again it would be too soon, unfortunately for me however this would probably become a weekly if not daily occurrence.
Luckily it wasn't all uninteresting. A lot of the history and structure of the Tyrofell empire were quite interesting. As I'd earned before it was made up of kingdoms and countries sworn to the empire and as countries part of the empire, they had to follow its rules and regulation, which honestly weren't that restricting.
War, conquering, skirmishes, and all sorts were perfectly allowed between countries, though there were a few forms of war and warfare that were banned, not that I really knew what things like assimilating lifeforms or devourers were, though they did sound like trouble. The rules were honestly more like guidelines than rules, which was good for me as it allowed me a lot of freedom. The fewer constraints on what I could do the better.
As for the current state of material affairs. Well, the optimal word would be abysmal. After two wars in succession, the kingdom was not doing good at all. Production was at an all-time low, foreign merchants had fled when the first war had started and had yet to return. The amount of coin we had was low. The war had caused many businesses to go under, further hurting the economy of the kingdom. This kingdom was also in dire need of manpower. At first, I had assumed we were well-populated, but apparently, I was wrong, as we had much fewer inhabitance than a country of a size should, leading to much of land being wasted, and our production not as fruitful.
This rebuilding of Larra would not be easy, but I already had a few ideas in mind, and with the upcoming changes I believed I could set things straight within a month or two, Not perfect or what I wanted, but the best I could do for know. It could all change with a new summons, I never knew, but I had to work with what I had, and not with what I might have because there were too many possibilities for me to work with when it came to potential summons.
As for the power players in the empire, there were a lot. Form clans, to syndicates, to institutions of magic and kor. The size of the empire made it impossible to know all of them and well Larra was behind on information. Richard had told me that the information I'd been given on the current state of things could very well be false as with foreign merchants had gone the many of the information brokers and he'd lost contact with many of his spies and informant in other kingdoms.
That worried me, but I'd thought back to Danzo and smiled. If anyone could handle it, it was him. I had Richard inform him of his network. I trusted Danzo to know what to do.
What I was worried about however was Ventrin
It was a neighboring kingdom that had recently been on a spree of conquering, taking any land of value that they could get their hands on. They'd stayed away from the stronger nations, but any minor nation with something of value was taken. The only reason Larra had been left alone was because there wasn't much to take or anything special about the kingdom, but that was going to change, especially with the ideas and changes I had planned, which meant that we would eventually catch their notice, and I would need to be ready.
The thought of another war angered me, but there was little I could do in my current state. I wasn't worried about losing. My current summons were powerful enough that I didn't think the minor kingdoms of this world could stand a chance and I would only get stronger, but war was never just as simple as two armies meeting on a battlefield. There would be battles of multiple fronts, deception, and who knew what else.
I shook my head at the thought, but steeled my heart and hardened my eyes to the fact. If they wanted a fight they'd get one. After all, once this kingdom was prospering, I would expand, and perhaps Ventin would be the first to fall to me, but that was a thought for a later time.
As for my summons, well I saw all of them during the two days as many came to visit me, and to my good fortune, I had fun with several, especially Blair who was insatiable, not to mention the constant visits by the talon riders, not that I minded. With the boring work I had, a break every now and then to spend time with a beautiful woman was more than welcome, and if they wanted to spend a few hours under my desk servicing me, who was I to say no?
Another thing I looked forward to was the meals Rindo brought me. She truly was an amazing cook and I could only describe her food as orgasmic, which considering that she was from food wars, was the highest compliment I could give her.
My summons were also preparing for their new tasks. Rathalos, Gible, and Rex had already been introduced to the talon riders and a schedule had been sorted. They would be moving throughout the country, getting rid of problems and cleaning the wilds up. Blair, Leone, Zombieman, Domino has also begun planning and had been working with Danzo who would be handing information to them. I'd also given them control over a number of soldiers, lords, and images to help them should they need it. Asia had been spending time with the healers in the palace and getting to know the surroundings and though she was shy, her healing had shocked and awed the healers in the palace, cementing her place among them and as their leader.
Lilah as always was a calm presence by my side and took her duty as bodyguard very seriously. Kuriboh also spent some time with me, though one of the talon riders had taken a liking to him, which wasn't a surprise as he was adorable, and I didn't mind letting him enjoy some time with them.
As for Lelith and Esdeath, well the screams coming from the dungeons were evidence of her ministrations, though I'd made sure she was only punishing those who truly deserved it. Esdeath had been spending time getting to know all the commanders, captains and everyone else she thought would of some worth. She'd fired several for incompetence after she'd as she said 'tested them' and had been recruiting with the help of Danzo.
Things were coming along nicely indeed, and on the morning after the two days I woke up with a smile ready to address my kingdom and people and begin the start of a new age for Larra. An age of prosperity and growth.
