Chapter 36 - Chapter 36 - Damn Im Lucky!

Asara and I left Twice and quickly headed across the battlements to the other side of the fort. Asara watched our backs and I kept an eye out in front. Despite Twice's power, soldiers were still coming over the wall on the others sides of the fort, though not as many as before. A large armored warrior jumped over the wall and charged me. Migi once again transformed without me needing to give a command and two blade-like whips shot out, one striking a point between his helmet and armored chest plate, and the other striking the slit in his helmet. His cry of pain quickly turned into a gurgle and I hopped over his body and increased my pace. My hope for this battle ending quickly had risen with the summoning of Twice, and if I could just get the other side sorted as well, then all would be good.

Though the number of causalities there was going to be on our side was far more than I'd expected, but in the end, war is war, and death is part of it. I hoped most of the talon riders survived this battle because they were far too valuable, loyal, and would be needed again.

"Your majesty, I don't mean to overstep, but what exactly is that you did to create that man?" Asara asked.

I sighed. I'd known that this was going to happen at some point and that eventually, I would need to answer. I'd just hoped it was after the war and after my position as king was secure, though Asara seemed trustworthy and I doubted she'd tell anyone else if I commanded her not to.

"It's an ability of mine," I said. "Think of the one I just summoned and the others as summons from other places which I called to fight for me."

That was probably the quickest and simplest way I could put it even if it wasn't really true. Bringing up the system and other things would just be confusing to her and we weren't exactly in a position to have a prolonged discussion.

"I see," she said, trying and failing to hide her intrigued tone. "That is quite the ability. I've never heard of such summoning magic."

"I wouldn't call it magic," I said. "More like an inherent ability granted through a gift of sorts."

"A gift?" She asked. "Are you going to be using this ability again to help the other side of the fort? Can you summon another one of him?"

"Not another one of him," I said. "But hopefully someone as useful."

System please give me another good summon, I thought as I heard a scream from behind me. I turned back just in time to see Asara decapitate a soldier then plunge one end of her glaive into the chest of another whose arms had been chopped of. She turned to me and gave me a nod, a real grin splitting her face in two. Battle junkie indeed, I thought.

I returned the nod, mentally praising myself for the idea of bringing the riders along, then turned back and began running again. It didn't take us long to reach the other side after that, even if we were forced to stop occasionally when an enemy got in our way, but with my power and Asara's skill and speed, it took little effort to defeat them, though I did take a few hits, none of which really did anything because of defense force and Migi.

We rounded a bend just in time to see Lilah kick a soldier off the wall then bring her blade around to disembowel another. She was surrounded by a group and someone who didn't know her might think she was in trouble, but I knew better. She dodged two blows simultaneously while her hand shot out to cover the face of another. It began to glow as Lila tore the soul out of the man. She wasn't idle as she did so, parrying an axe strike and ducking a sword swipe. Instead of letting go of the man she'd taken the soul of, she picked him up with one hand and flung him at one of the others. She used the distraction to carve two of her enemies in two and by the time the third had gotten back up, it was too late. His head was taken from his shoulder, sent flying end over end before finally landing with a thud.

"Lilah!"

Her head snapped to me just as another soldier popped up over the wall and landed in front of me. He grinned but it quickly turned into a frown as he looked down to find Lilah's blade in his chest. She tore it free savagely and immediately took place at my side, causing me to smile. My deadly darkwraith indeed.

"Lilah, take me to the center of this side," I shouted.

She nodded and took up a position in front of me. What occurred in the next few minutes was eye-opening. I'd known that Lilah had gotten stronger with her levels but now I was seeing it up close. Lilah tore through anything that stood in our way and I frowned in confusion during the brief trip to the center of this side of the fort, as dark red light seemed to appear from the cracks in her armor. It didn't do anything as far as I could see but it reminded me of something I'd seen in one of the dark souls games, though I couldn't put my mind on it.

"Boss?"

Domino had both her SMGs out and firing as we finally arrived at our destination. Soldiers fell by the dozens and not a single bolt of magic or arrows managed to hit her. I saw an arrow directly on course for her, only to get hit by a bolt of magic and be destroyed.

I looked out over the battlefield and winced. This side was much worse than the other. Despite Domino's efforts, more and more enemies were still coming, using ladders, magic, and kor to climb up the wall. They also had basic siege engines and as I watched a catapult let loose a flurry of small-sized boulders which did do too much damage to the wall, but they did take down a few of my soldiers

"How are you, Domino?"

She shrugged. "Not terrible, but I'm gonna be out of ammo soon, and they're quite a lot of them. I'm only one person and I can still be swarmed if enough get over the wall. My luck only goes so far."

"I understand," I replied. "Keep me protected. I'm going to use a summoning token and hope for the best. The other side is all good and they're pushing back. If we can get this side pushing back as well then they'll either retreat or we'll kill them all."

She nodded and took a position on my right while Lilah moved to my left. Asara stood at my back just in case any enemies tried to get sneaky.

"Alright system," I muttered under my breath. "Give me something good. you've been good to me so far. Let my luck stay true."

I focused on and sent a quick pray to the system before I used one of my common tokens.

The brief flash of white light came, but it was far brighter and larger this time than any other, and the reason why became apparent very quickly
