Chapter 4 - First Login: A new journey

"We stand upon the precipice of change. The world fears the inevitable plummet into the abyss. Watch for that moment… and when it comes, do not hesitate to leap. It is only when you fall that you learn whether you can fly."

Glancing at his character sheet, he nods to himself, as he reads through it. 'Wait, what's this Spheres thing.' Touching the Spheres options, he raises an eyebrow at the information that comes up before giving a nod to himself.

'Interesting, they've came up with a new system besides the classic casters. Makes me wonder how many have chosen to try this new style of gameplay and how many will go with their classic gameplay style.' Tapping the menu for it, he gives a slight smile as he nods. 'This is going to be very interesting. It provides for some in depth customization for us players.' Touching an option, he nods at the chosen Spheres 'So, it appears that I can't actually use my blast as a ranged attack, but I can use it as part of my melee attacks.'

Continuing to glance through his information, he notices the [Free Talent Points] section of the sheet. 'Oh, what's this?' Choosing the option, he raises an eyebrow at the information.

[ Free Talent Points: All characters start with 10 points to spend on bonus talents at the start of the game. These talents can be chosen from a list of talents, or used to upgrade racial talents. After finalization of your character you may later upgrade or but new talents at double the cost.]

'Hmm, really now. So it looks like I can upgrade all my talents except for One handed Blade Mastery.' Tapping his lips with one finger as he thinks to himself. 'If Darkness is a magical effect, it means regular darkvision won't be able to see through it, so I'll definitely want to upgrade it. I'm not worried about Stonecunning, though it would be interesting to see what it upgrades to, but it can wait until later. One with the Night is a definite must though, especially since I prefer to go the stealthy route. Now, what else to get besides those two?'

Scrolling through the list of options, he sighs as he shakes his head. 'Not that one, or that one.....' suddenly stopping as he notices one that sticks out. [Umbral Blessing - Gain the ability to grant a War Priest's Darkness Blessing. (Can be upgraded.)

Darkness Blessing:

Enshrouding Darkness (minor): At 1st level, you can touch an ally and bestow a darkness blessing. For 1 minute, the ally becomes enshrouded in shadows while in combat, granting it concealment. Creatures that are normally able to see in supernatural darkness ignore this concealment.

Cost: 1 point

Darkened Vision (major): At 10th level, you can place a shroud of darkness around the eyes of one foe within 30 feet. The target is blinded for 1 minute (as blindness/deafness).

Cost: 2 points]

'Hmm, so if I want to upgrade to darkened vision, I'll have to wait until tenth level to upgrade it with two talent points. I'll take that blessing then, which leaves me with two points. I'll take Alteration as a favored sphere, and then also take the unarmored defense of the monk.' Giving a slight grin, he nods as he finishes his choices and looks at his updated information.

'Hmm, so Darkvision upgraded to Umbral Sight, and One with the Night has upgraded into Shadow Form. Let's take a look and see what they do.'

[Umbral Sight: You can see in all types of darkness, including magical. The distance able to be seen in magical darkness decreases by 20 feet per ten levels lower than the caster you are.]

[Shadow Form: When in areas of darkness or at night, you become a shadow, gaining an increase to your Vanish skill.]

As he finalizes his character sheet and closes it, a figure shrouded in a voluminous robe, his face shrouded by the hood appears before him as a pair of obsidian arches appear before him. Each of the arches bike their own aura, one glowing a soft sky blue, the other the color of the darkest storm clouds.

Stepping forward to take a closer look, he stops as the figure speak in a low, deep voice. "Welcome Seeker, before you lies two paths; the first path, a path of hardship and fortune to make your own fate. The other, a path fraught with untold peril, hardship, a path sometimes of despair with great rewards."

As the entity finishes its speech, Jacyn gives it a speculative look, his gaze intense as he ponders to himself with a furrowed brow. 'So, if I take the first path, my gameplay will be easier, but if I choose the second path, it will be much more difficult it appears. Does that mean that it will be the same for any who join me? You know what, I was always taught that with great challenge comes great reward, so let's do it.'

Stepping forward, his eyes move over each Arch, his eyes taking in the detail of each one, taking now of the runes that are etched in to both of them. Giving a nod to the robed figure, he gives him a nod as he steps through the more ominous of the two portals.
