Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

"That should do it," Janine says as she finishes adding the last bit of aqua paint to her dolphin's fins. She sits up, wiping her forehead almost sure she got paint on her forehead. The painting was a hell of a job especially on a hot day like this. The sun was blaring, even though it was covered by the clouds.

"Damn it's hot," Janine says standing up, whipping the sweat beads dripping off the side of her face. Figuring she had done enough painting Janine kneels picking up her paintbrushes, and other supplies. She didn't mind if she spilled a little on herself she was already a mess. "You seem to be working hard?" A familiar voice speaks and Janine who was still kneeling looks to her side.

There across the pool behind the gated fence stared a curious Demarcus. Janine felt a small tug pull her lips, "Oh yeah, just finishing up this painting." "What about you though, why are you out so early?" Truthfully, it wasn't that early, probably around 2 p.m.

Demarcus laughs, "I don't know what you consider early, but it's around two in the afternoon." Janine was shocked, she hadn't realized the time had slipped through her fingers? "Is that so?" She questions lowly peering down at her artwork. "The artwork is very pretty," Demarcus says from in front of her.

"Holy fuck, why are you sneaking up on people, and how did you-" Janine exclaims as she's cut off by the abrupt laughter that comes from Demarcus. "I jumped the gate." He tells Janine as if that was supposed to make her feel better.

Janine looks at her gate trying to make sure no bends or broken wires were out. Demarcus is a stocky man, big in the muscles, meaning his humongous self could break her rails. "You lucky none of my rails broke otherwise it'll be me and you." She tells him. Demarcus laughs again, licking his lips.

"You feisty, I like that," Demarcus says as Janine cocks one eyebrow. "You need any help with that or you good," Demarcus asks, motioning for the items Janine had in her hand. "Nah, I'm good, and you should get back home to your wife." "I'm sure she's gonna wonder where you are, by the way, tell her the pie was good," Janine tells the man, and his smile easily slips away from his face.

Oh, Janine thinks as she watches the smile drops, and something flashes in the male's eyes for a second. However, Janine wasn't fast enough to read it. The smile reappears and if it was forced Janine had no idea. If it was though, the man should be given an Oscar.

"Yea she told me she delivered it yesterday," Demarcus rubs the back of his head. "She's quite the chatter, isn't she?" Janine says, and although it seemed playful, she was kind of serious. Also, she wanted to see if what Hypheena told her was true?

He seemed to be dazed in his little world, before answering, "Oh yes, I agree." "She's a nagger." He laughs those dark eyes sparkle as he tells Janine, "However, she's my nagger, so I have no choice but to love her always." Janine smiles at that.

She thrusts the tray towards him causing him to wince at the contact. "Take this in my garage for me," telling him this, she motions with her painted pointed finger.

"You gonna pay me, I think I should be rewarded?" Janine laughs, 'Not in a million years.' She thinks this to herself watching him walk off. Janine takes one look at her work admiring the artwork, before following suit.

After putting all her supplies up, she made Demarcus help her put her stools together. During this process, a knock came at the door. "Damn, that's probably my wife." "She probably coming to say goodbye." Janine peers at Demarcus from over her glasses, motioning him to answer the door.

He was reluctant at first, but he finally managed to get up. Hypheena probably went off on him earlier during text or something. After watching him standing there stalling Janine finally couldn't take it anymore. "That's it!"

Janine stands up walking past Demarcus, "You just stand there like you're going to pay my electricity bill?" Janine looks back at him. Demarcus pleads with her, even going as far as to put prayer hands up. Janine once again was confused, a weird guy he was. She shakes her head as she opens the door.

"HEY!!! BITCH!!!" A loud deep voice says as she was enveloped into a bear hug. The voice was followed by a chuckle. Startle, she didn't have time to register the happiness that filled her. She could only wrap her arms around the person.

"Baby, look this bitch then got them glass windows and the pearly countertops?" Both of them let go of each other, as Janine looks up at the character. "Mikey, what, how?" Mikey or Mike looks her up and down like she was some sort of creature while telling her, "Did you think you were going to get rid of me?" Mike walks around her in a circling motion.

"I'm like a cockroach you can't get rid of me," he says patting his chest. Janine laughs, as she feels another big pair of strong arms wrap around her. "Yea you can't get rid of us, and why would you want to?" Janine hugs the person back tightly, "It's so good to see you again Devontae."

"You too love," Devontae says unwrapping his arms. The sound of someone clearing their throat causes the two males to look to their side. Mike turns quickly back towards Janine, "You got company ooo and you pulled you a fine one girl."

Feeling a sharp pain in the back of his head, Mikey glares at Devontae. "Stop it," Devontae tells Mike as he nods his head towards Demarcus, who gives him a sharp smile. Janine clears her throat, "Guys this is Demarcus, he is my neighbor." "Before you say anything Mike the man is happily married, " Janine says rolling her eyes at the last sentence.

Michael mumbles under his breath, "Shit ain't no ring ever stopped nobody." Janine hears this and delivers a playful smack just like De. "It's nice to meet you two," Demarcus says motioning his hand out for them both to shake it. Mike does gladly, but Devontae just stares at it, giving him a nod.

Janine slaps Devontae on his arm, he winces but makes no further attempt to grab the man's hand. Even with all the rudeness from Devontae Demarcus just draws his hand back still smiling. While Janine gets lost in her conversation with Mike walking to the kitchen.

Leaving the two in a staring, but it didn't last long since Devontae was the first to break it. Walking towards the back, and only stopping when Demarcus tells him, "Tell Janine, I will see her whenever we see each other." Devontae hears the front door open, and as it closes, he makes his way to the back.

"Seriously though, you and Devontae haven't tied the knot yet?" Janine asks Mikey as they pop open their Canaan Jacks. Michael's face chocolate cheeks turn a shade lighter, "I mean, it's not like I haven't thought about it?" "It's just we don't have the money, but with this new promotion that he received, hopefully, we can get married by 2023."

Janine takes a sip of her Canaan Jack listening and nodding her head, "So where you are guys staying?" The door opens and Devontae walks in, and Janine grabs a Canaan Jack tossing it towards him. He catches it with one hand walking to where they were. "So, what are we chatting about?" Janine watches him lean on the counter before almost saying, "We were planning you guy ma-" "She asked us where we stay at!" Janine side-eyes Mikey, 'This mother fucker did not just cut me off?'

Devontae also side-eyes the both of them, before answering, "A hotel." "I'm on a business trip, and gladly it was in your area so well be here for a couple of weeks." Janine couldn't help but take in Devontae's facial features he's changed. He has always held an emotionless face, but it didn't stop the static handsomeness that radiates off of him.

Mikey on the other hand was a cheerful soul who was also soft-looking, he got voted prettiest man in school before. The two of them were the definition of the opposites attract.

"So who wants to watch a movie?"
