Chapter 2 - a system granted new name

Sweet chirps from nearby birds is what I awoke to as they sang from atop the branches. The soft bubbling creek and distant waterfall reached my ears next as sensation began to return to me. Sight returned and blessed me with colorful wild flowers. The earthy smell of moss from the rock I rested on, its strange level of softness was pleasant on my bare skin.

'... Wait ... HUH WHY AM I NAKED!' I could only shout in my head for my voice had yet to return.

It was then I noticed the cascade of white hair draped all around me, and felt the fluffy tail at my back end. Somehow I just knew my eyes would be the same beautiful violet as the songstress in the abyss.

Movement returned next, prompting me to stand and get a better look around. The meadow and nearby surroundings were bathed in the glow of a mid-day sun, a truly magical place. The magic of nature in it purest form prompted me to hum gently along with the music of the birds.

It was at this moment that I saw the same glowing orbs of light surround me yet again. My eyes closed in fear of being trapped in the abyss again, but contrary to my expectations that didn't happen. A gentle breeze blew through the meadow causing my long white dress to sway in the breeze.

'Interesting, so I have magic in my music like the abyss songstress. Well I'm just glad I'm dressed now'.

[Ding. Host has unlocked magic without system guidance. Due to unique circumstances we are granting an improved system. Think 'open interface' to continue].

'Hmm a system? Like from those books and shows the younger charges liked to tell me about? Well no use dwelling, open interface'.

[Processing ... does host have a name they wish to register?]

A new name, new face, body, and race. It truly is a new begining to a new life. Should I use my poor naming sense to choose? No. I want a fresh start, so a fresh name from one who is not me and doesn't really know me sounds rather exciting.

'Hmmm surprise me with a good name!'

[Processing ... ding new name created. Does host wish to finalize the name Lyrica?]

'Well thats conveniently easy to remember. Yes finalize my new name as Lyrica'

'Oh a I'm a snow wolf then. That would explain the tail and my white hair.' My wolf like ears on top of my head twitched in time with my reading, 'Oh yeah and I guess these too' I note while reaching up to poke them a bit.

Interestingly enough it seems my time in the abyss has left an unexpected mark on my mental state. While I still have most of my memories, it appears that my personality changed significantly.

I never used to be this almost childish. As a nurse professionalism was lesson number one, but I'm instead left rather childish. How strange. I stand there contemplating for quite a while as I pace around the clearing to get used to my new body.

This new world is defiantly different from my old one in a variety of ways. Even from what I can see within the clearing itself. Like a puzzle to unwind piece by fascinating piece.

The meadow was filled with flowers that looked like a cross between a chamomile and a poppy, but in impossible (for my old world) colors. Two tone flowers, patterned flowers, and even rainbow flowers.

If the flowers weren't shocking enough, the clearing was surrounded by very unique trees. They looked as if a weeping willow had cherry blossoms instead of leaves. They stood tall as every breeze that blew through scattered their petals in the air, and carried them away to far off distant lands I have yet to see.

While foreign to me, it is an undeniable fact that this new world posses places of an unrivaled beauty. This meadow is the single most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life.

Much as I would love to stay here doing nothing but admiring the scenery, there are still many many things I need to know. And only one being was able to answer them currently ... the system.
