Alison's voice makes my eyes widen:
"Sorry, hamster, I thought you were my mother. She's been bothering me lately. »- I explain with a mortified tone.
"And I understand why." - she replies soon after, while I throw myself back on the bed in frustration, realizing that the photo of me and Edward has been seen by quite a lot of people.
"But I must admit it's a nice man!" - she continues to exult and I can imagine her
electrified expression, as if she were standing in front of me right now.
"Of course. I hope I don't get into trouble. "
"If it happens, it's worth it." -she continues to convince me that I'm doing the right thing.
"When are you coming back? I want to know more. »- she starts talking again, without letting me do the same.
"I think this weekend."-I admit... And hope.
"I can't wait!"-she screams on the other side of the phone.
In ten years of friendship, I don't remember seeing Alison sad, but always happy and excited to hear
gossip.
This must have been a blast for her, as she even decided to call me.
She hates the phone, not because she's an old-fashioned girl, but because she thinks' you are more sincere if you speak with someone looking into each other's eyes', a theory that I never understood, but I have learned to get used to her strange
habits and mysterious ideals.
I jump on the bed, even risking to fall on the opposite side, when the door of my room
is suddenly thrown open:
"I have to close, the witch has come ..." - I whisper quickly, and then turn off the phone, but not before
hear the old lady says:
"Is there a witch in the villa?"
Carl's mother continues to stare at me annoyed: more than a witch at this moment it seems to me The Giant
Prisoner for the anger she entertains in her gaze: in theory I would be Boyka, but I feel more like
the referee trying to escape from the match between the boxers.
"What have I done?" - I immediately stand up with a worried expression.
"Have you really talked to Mr. Gordon about the shopping?" - she raises an eyebrow, while I have the courage to
just nod.
She must have had a chat with Satan before she came to me, otherwise I can't explain all this fury.
"The driver is waiting for you in the yard."-she concludes with a monotonous voice.
Without giving her time to close the door, I catapult out of the room and move away from her figure.
That woman makes me anxious, even more than my mother!
I reach the outside of the villa in the blink of an eye, excited about this exit: I love shopping, I really like it more than going to the beach or spending time with my friends and i have considered it as a hobby ever since
I was young.
Perhaps because it was one of the few moments I spent in the company of my mother: she didn't have time to
fill myself with the attention I needed as a university teacher by profession.
She didn't have time to take me out or have fun together, but we had to do the shopping
every week, so every Saturday I hurried to finish my homework and sat in front of the door, waiting for her to arrive.
I smile at the mere memory, but the smile dies on my lips when I see a single car in the yard, with
James inside with his eyes hidden behind a pair of sunglasses.
From afar I notice that he wears a tank top to show off his biceps.
Is it possible that they are so swollen even if he didn't go to the gym shortly before?!
I realize that I have been standing staring at him as he lifts a corner of his mouth
looking at me.
He lowers the glasses on his nose, showing his dark eyes, then I decide to move and reach the
door, pretending like nothing happened.
Before entering I hurry to lower the shorts, regretting having worn them today.
I don't like the way he x-rays my whole body, it makes me feel ... beautiful.
I slam the door after taking a seat next to the driver, and then jump at his words:
"Fuck! Go easy with that door! This is a ... "- he starts menacing, so I raise my eyes to the sky, but I don't let him finish and I continue at his place:
«... Mercedes A-class 5p, roof control unit with '4 recessed lights', cup holder lighting,
touchpad lighting, console lighting, luggage compartment lighting, compartment lighting
feet, outside temperature indicator, interior light / reading spot in the rear compartment on plate
fixing, LTE module for the use of Mercedes me connect services, double cup holder, driver's seat
height adjustable, reading spots and front courtesy lights, touchpad, glasses compartment, compartment
glove box, adjustable steering wheel. »- I say all in without even breathing.
He takes his eyes off completely and turns three-quarters to my side, resting an elbow on the steering wheel.
He looks at me amazed, almost with admiration:
"You know something about cars." - he observes, as if he just realized that I'm not a stupid cook.
"I know machines better than I know my mother."- I admit in a low voice.
He assumes a confused expression and decides not to leave after listening to my words strangely with attention , so I turn in his direction slowly, continuing with a dubious tone, trying to understand if he's really interested in what I'm saying or just playing the fool:
"As a child I spent a lot of time with my father, who is a mechanic ..." - so I let him understand the rest
of my story.
He lifts his chin and nods at my words, then takes his glasses back from the dashboard.
"If you don't leave the supermarket within half an hour you'll come back home on feet." - he clarifies, returning to be the same asshole.
"Or Kate can wait." - I say before realizing the words that come out of my mouth,
at the exact moment he leaves the courtyard, so I open my eyes wide as soon as I understand what I just said.
"Have you spied on us?" - he squints his eyes, while he tightens his fingers around the steering wheel, looking carefully at the street in front of him.
"You were about to have sex in front of my room, it would have been difficult not to notice it." - I smile at him
ironically, as he just runs his tongue between his lips in an almost amused expression.
The rest of the journey passes so silently that I even forget I'm seating next to him:
«The most beautiful thing about Torrance is the sea.» - I admit suddenly, while I take a deep breath and thonk out loud when the row of
palaces is replaced by the blue expanse of the ocean.
I roll down the window to smell the salty smell, but soon after James does the opposite, closing all the
windows as if he got annoyed by my behavior.
"Hey!" - I cry offended, giving him a grim look, but his expression remains serious and he clenches his jaw.
He seems angry about my gesture, but I can't understand why, so I decide to shut up and not
insist on his arrogance.
