Chapter 1 - Prologue

They would not stop.

I ran with all my might, they're coming at me.

" Hey Glow, mind glowing tonight." Big Q said and they all laughed.

"Hey Glow, stop running so the wind doesn't blow you out" Carl said and they laughed at me again. I seemed so tiny, the size of an ant on the huge table tennis court and they are now standing around like big mean evil giants, watching me run around, trying to dodge their hands as they are trying to catch me.

I hit the net and pass out, but I can still hear them. "Hey guys, let me wake her," I heard Meg say. Then she poured a cup of ice cubes on me, which hit my head in thuds. And then they laugh hysterically.

Just as the ice cubes were thudding off my head, I heard a knock on the door. The only difference is that it was not from that world. The knock became even louder, I could feel it and I could hear my name.

I was forced to open my eyes. Just as my eyes flung open I saw my mum patting on my cheeks with both hands.

"Glow, honey, you are going to be late for school" she said in a really cute voice. I realized that I just had a dream, yes the reoccurring one about my dumbass bullies. My mum is my only support right now from all the bullying and mistreatment that I get from the school. My dad, I was told, died before I was even due for delivery. My home, my mum are my safe haven.

"Good morning mum." I greeted her. "Can I not go to school today?" I asked her with pleading eyes.

" Young lady, get your a** up and get ready for school." My mum said in a soft voice then rolled up the window blinds.

" I want to, but the bu-" I tried to speak before my mum stopped me.

"B-b-but…no buts, young lady. Bullies only come because you don't stand up to them. You make them feel powerful with your fears. They feed on that honey, but when you stop their source of meal, boom! They die off your back!" My mum stopped picking up the laundry and explained dramatically. I got out of bed and walked towards the bathroom to freshen up.

I know my mum can be caring and loving, but she never supported me when I showed any sign of weakness. She would always give me a good sermon. I keep wondering what I should do to be able to get the leeches off my back and be the strong girl my mum sees. I don't know where that girl resides, but I'm certain that it's not within the person staring back at me in the mirror.

I would most definitely want to be strong and end the bullying, but the truth is that this girl in the mirror does not have it in her. I looked at my tiny figure in the mirror looking all clumsy with pale skin, deep green eyes, a head of frizzy red hair, freckles splattered generously on my face and the huge glasses I wore.

"Can you be strong?" I said after I spat out the lather from my mouth. I rinsed my mouth and pulled up the sleeves of my T-shirt to my shoulders. I flexed my arms like a hulk, in hopes to pop out some muscles and none popped. My arms remained long and straight like a ruler. I let out a sigh and moved my thin body to the bathtub. I wasn't disappointed, I was just wondering why I could not see what my mum sees, the hulk in me or why she can't see what I'm seeing too, I mean the clumsy girl in the mirror.

I tried to cover my hair before shower. I'm skipping hair wash today. For a split second I thought I could feel the silkiness of some locks at the back of my head, but when I couldn't feel it anymore, was it just me or my hair just got fuller. I thought.

★★★★★★★★

The bell rang and the hallway was once again flooded with students. Nesville High is a popular school and highly rated over other highschools in the City. The reason, no wonder it has a high population of learners trooping in every academic year. I happen to be one of the students here, walking in the hallway.

'Glow Hillside'

A voice whispered softly amidst the noise of slamming and clanking of locker doors and the indistinct chattering of students in the hallway. I thought it was the regular squad of friends from my class. They are my classmates but they all look bigger and better than myself. They're my tormentors, my bullies, they've been picking on me since our freshman year. I have tried hard to invade them today, trying to be as invisible as I can. I wonder what they want now. Ignored the voice and kept on walking, clutching my notes tightly.

'Adalwolfa.' I heard again.

Now no one is called Adalwolfa, I mean none that I know of, not even a nickname or alias. And I'm not called by that name. I was beginning to fidget because this whole thing might actually be going on in my head and no one is actually close to me for me to hear the voice so clearly. I'm about to double up my walking speed or possibly start running when two hands gripped my shoulders and I need no sorcery to tell me who they were.

They lifted me up like a trash can, quite effortlessly. This earned me some jests of laughter.

"Hey, we missed you!" Meg said, squishing my face painfully. She is a blonde and also the female villain of my class and no one wants to get on the bad side of this hell of a diva. I must have turned red because BigQ pointed it, saying I was having a lot of fun and turning red from excitement, earning me another round of laughter from the other students.

I was held dangling high up in the air and I knew their plan was to throw me scrambling down to the floor. They did it.

" Have some more fun Glow stick" Carl chimed in.

I braced myself for the pain to come as I was thrown across the floor. Only for me to find myself double flipping and landing on one knee.

That was the coolest thing I have ever done and how I did it, I could not understand, I wanted to bask in the moment not until I heard the laughter of people who saw it.

" She's got some moves, praise Marvel studios" someone yelled.

"Yeah, do it again!" Another one said. BigQ lifted me up again and this time, I couldn't flip any more , I felt heavy, I crashed to the floor, I heard a crack from within me. They laughed at me.

" Marvel warned you, do not try this at home" Meg said and they all laughed and left after the bell.

I tried to stand up but I couldn't. I broke a rib. I let out a groan and winced. I didn't think I was so loud not until the whole building started vibrating, things falling over and I could hear a girl screaming faintly from a distance. I couldn't tell what happened next because everything went black.

'Adalwolfa'

My eyelids flickered.

'Gunnolf'

That voice came again. I felt strange, the voice seemed to be calling me, pulling me out of the darkness.

My eyelids fluttered open.

I'm in the school's clinic. The nurse on duty was looking at some charts. She noticed that I was awake.

"Hey, how do you feel now?" she asked me, still looking into the chart. I tried to move, I stretched out. The pain I felt in my chest had disappeared. I felt even powerful.

" What did you call me earlier?" I asked her. She looked at me questioningly.

" Who is Adalwolfa? What does Gunnolf even mean? Why would you keep calling me that" I asked her, I was starting to get upset. I noticed her holding her chest and sat back on her chair.

" You obviously are better than when you came in so get out of here." She said to me, with her face turning pale.

I felt like I was slapped in the face by what she said to me. I felt wronged. Despite my nature, by now I would be scrambling to the door but I felt rather decisive, I was bolder and something within me made me stay. I needed answers and that is what my brain registered.

" You have to tell me what I want to know," I said, walking towards her. For some reason, she looked scared. I do not know what is going on. No one would ever be intimidated by me. My appearance made sure of that, but why was she reacting that way? The better question was why was I feeling so good?

" I never called you anything. What are you talking about?" She said with a wince, now she's squeezing her chest tightly and coughing.

"Now that's enough, Glow, leave now." I heard Dr. Scott say. How did he get into the room without a sound? What does he mean by it's okay? Why was the nurse reacting that way? I was confused.

"Leave now!" Dr. Scott repeated. In my confusion I picked up my bag and left the clinic.

Back in lecture hall, the lessons went on amidst the bickering and laughter of the students and voice of the teacher, all I could hear was heart beats, and smell of somethings, I don't know, I could smell the aroma of food from the cafeteria, the smell of mint gum someone just opened, I looked around and it seems everyone was paying attention to the lesson going on.

I could catch the scent of the flowers outside which never happened. Maybe the wind is messing with my senses. I thought.

I let out a deep breath and paid undivided attention to the lesson.

At lunch break, I got my food and sat at an isolated table, then a tray dropped opposite mine I looked up, it was Sean.

"Girl, that was fire! how could you flip like that, man! That was cool. You have to teach me." Sean squealed with wide eyes.

"I know right, because I'm not some stunt man. That was just an adrenaline rush, I couldn't do it a second time, remember?" I said stuffing my mouth with some cabbage. " No way, that was just adrenaline, you were clearly nine feet off the ground." " Tell me, have you been hitting the gym secretly?" He asked, lowering his voice and darting his eyes over my face like he was trying to get the answers off my face.

Sean is gay and I have finally been able to understand and accept his antics, I see him like my brother and he has been such a huge part of my support system, after my mum.

"Trust me Sean, that was all adrenaline." I said with a smile.

" Girl if I were straight, I'd be hitting on you just for that one. Wait until I tell your mum how cool you were." Sean said, clapping his hands " By the way, Meg and the guys, they are evil, I wish someone would just beat them up and leave them in a hospital for a while." Sean said, then slurped on his drink.

I laughed. "Be careful what you wish for, Sean." I told him. I noticed the meat on Sean's plate and I must've been staring at it for a little too long because he snapped a finger in my face. " What are you eating up my meat with your eyes for? when you are vegan?" He said, trying to cover the meat with his hands.

I smiled. And for some strange reason, I could smell the aroma coming from the meat, even better and man! This scent is tempting. Something pushed me because with every breath I took the meat balls were calling my name and I snatched one of them and threw it into my mouth. The savoury taste was tickling all my taste buds and I ate it like I was starving. Within minutes, Sean's plate was empty of meat balls and his jaw hung open, almost reaching the ground. I too am taken aback by my actions and I knew from then, something was not right. I bolted leaving Sean behind, he tried calling my attention, but I didn't pay him any. I don't even know where I'm running towards, I just ran.

★Heavy breathing★

I looked at my face in the mirror in the restroom. I just puked all my lunch out. I am vegan and I don't eat anything made with meat or animal products. I washed my face and mouth and walked out through the door.

The only thought in my head is only one big question.

What was happening to me?

Lunch break was over and I walked into the classroom and I couldn't find my seat. Sean walked in after me and he saw the expression on my face. And he instantly knew something had gone wrong.

I told him the situation and he just charged at Meg and the rest of my bullies. He had always been able to stand up to BigQ and his gang sometimes but I couldn't.

"Hey, Meg, cut it out and bring it back now!" he yelled, slamming his hands on the desk in front of him. It caused me to jolt, but I was more concerned about his hand.

"Ooh, Quest, look who's got some balls today" she said to BigQ and they all laughed. I have been trying to understand the link or bond of these three but I just can't understand what it was. How can Sean speak up to them but no one else can. I even notice that they sometimes get away with their misdeeds and the school doesn't punish them. The most punishments they've ever gotten was to be given time for reflection in the principal's office.

"BigQ should I just tell him where he is?" Carl said, cracking his knuckles and walking towards Sean. I passed my glance at Sean and he was all ready for a fight. He had his shoulder squared, that's all I could see because he had his back to me. I think I saw something that looks like a claw, but then that could be Sean's pinky finger nail, which he leaves long on purpose.

"Yeah, it has been a while since I taught some pups their place." BigQ said, walking towards Sean, with his gray eyes sparkling. Before they could reach him, I ran to drag Sean away.

" Leave them, Sean, I can find another seat." I said, holding his hands dragging. Him away. I saw how confused everyone was, Meg looked at me with wide eyes, Carl and BigQ took a step back before letting out a "woah" I couldn't understand and I just stopped in my tracks. I looked at Sean and he was wincing in pain. I let go of his hands immediately and discovered that I held his wrist too tight and it was almost broken. When did I have such strength in my hand? I did not even grip hard on his hand.

"Oh my Gosh, Sean let me get the medics" I said and ran towards the door. The whole class was in chaos.

" No need, come back." Sean said, looking like he just escaped a wild animal.

I asked him if he was okay and he nodded.

The gang retreated back to their seats.

No matter what it was or what I did that time, it had definitely stopped a fight. I did not think Sean would be able to take on the gang alone, and I didn't want him getting hurt. However, that question still remained. What the hell just happened?

The rest of the day went by uneventfully except for the new name tag the gang tagged me and I got back home. They called me a freak.

"Honey, you are spending too much time in there, everything ok?" My mum called me at the door. I'm in the bathroom and I have been in here for about forty-five minutes trying to understand how my red hair happened to get silky straight silver strands in them. I can't go out to meet my mum like this so after washing my hair a second time, the silver strands refused to go away. What would my mum say if I told her about everything that has happened to me. I decided to put on a large bonnet to conceal the hair. Later at night I will dye it out.

"Yes, perfectly fine" I said and washed my hands.

There must be an explanation to what is going on with me right? A day after tomorrow is my seventeenth birthday and why is all this happening to me now. I need to see a doctor.

After dinner I did some homework and decided to go to bed early. Outside the window, the moon is not out yet but is marked, it's going to be a full moon tonight. I took off my glasses.

I lost consciousness to sleep, thinking about mythical creatures and how our world is indeed free of them.

"Adalwolfa"

I heard the whisper again.

I woke up to a churn in my stomach, I felt stretched from inside. I have this strong urge to scream. I could hear heart beats from the next room, my mum's calm heart beats. I looked at the time and it was 3:00 AM by my glow in the dark alarm clock. How can I shout by this time of the night? I looked out the window, there was a full moon. The moment my eyes caught the moon I felt a strange surge of power flow from within me. The burning sensation in my throat got worse, I could hear myself growling softly from inside, I swallowed hard to suppress the urge burning in my throat and I threw my left hand over my mouth to prevent the sound from coming out. I feel hooked to the moon, I can't look away and I can't move away. I blinked a million times but I still can't move away or look away, this must be some bad nightmare.

I watched a cloud sail by. It covered the moon. Immediately I lost sight of the moon, I was able to break free and move away from the window, I put on the bed lamp and I let out a yelp, still trying to suppress the burning sensation in my throat I was now hyperventilating and I was just trying to understand what was going on in my stomach and throat, only to find my thumb and index finger nails are getting longer or maybe my mum is trying to play pranks on me, did she do my nails?

With my nails still long, I went into the bathroom thinking I was about to puke again. Only to walk past the mirror and catch my reflection in a very awkward and scary manner I could never dream of. I took a step back and looked at the mirror again to find a head of half curly red hair and half silky silver hair.

What the F**k is going on? I let out a scream and it came out like the howl of a German Shepherd, I can hear the dogs in the street go into a barking frenzy now. I was terrified. My mum must be completely knocked out because she is not running in here already like she does at the slightest sound.

No matter what I can not let my mum see this hair and tomorrow is Saturday I will be staying at home all day, this will be bad. I might have to answer a lot of questions in the morning. I have to dye my hair. I am a natural redhead and I Don't have to dye my hair to be a redhead. The only dye I have ever used was black. I love experimenting and when I first dyed my hair, the outcome was horrible, but it would be better to have a dye-gone-wrong than a mysterious half red, half silver hair.

I got to work. I dyed my hair, the silver strands turned out great, it went from silver, to complete brunette. Now I'm a darn brunette. Since the silver portion isn't too much, I decided to curl it up. By the time I finished, my head was back to normal. I think I did it better this time. My nails were still long so I got the nail clippers and cut them off. The burning sensation in my throat is gone and the churn in my stomach is also gone. I feel perfect again. I went back to my room only to discover that I can't see clearly anymore, wait I am not wearing glasses then how was It possible that I could see clearly, even better than when I put on my glasses. I mull my way slowly into my room in order to avoid tripping over something. I had memorised my room so I was able to walk to the bed, I felt the bed side table and picked up my glasses and put it on. What was that about? I thought I was with my glasses and if I wasn't, how was I able to see so clearly?

Everything is creeping me out and I need to talk to someone, a doctor. I checked the time, it was five O'Clock. I looked outside and the moon was covered by a wide thick cloud. Well everything is back to normal and the dogs have retired too. I slept off after making a mental note to visit Doctor Scott later today.

I walked into the bathroom to freshen up, only to find my head was now half red and half silver again, this time there were no curls. Both sides turned silky straight, reaching to my butt. I looked in the mirror and my jaw was almost touching my toes out of Shock, I dyed and curled my hair yesterday so what happened now? My ten finger nails are now long and red like they were painted. I went to my mum's room to get her nail polish remover, because I heard her voice down stairs in the kitchen. I used the nail polish remover to wipe my nails, but nothing came off.

Are these the things that happen once you turn eighteen? I still have a day to go, so why the sudden change or is this some kind of post puberty not written in the books? I wondered. I washed my hair for the third time but it still won't go off. I quickly freshened up and rushed my clean up routine. I tied my hair in a loose low bun at the bottom of my head. I wore Large my hoodie and fastened it tight to my neck. As for my nails I would just tell my mum I painted them for my birthday tomorrow.

Down in the living room I tried to sneak out without my mum's attention.

" Hey there newbie thief, you are missing a mask, want one?" My mum called out. She caught me and I stopped in my tracks.

"Good morning mum, I want to see doctor

Scott for some explanations for my homework."

"It doesn't look like it to me, and it is the weekend, whatever you are up to, sit for breakfast first." She dropped the fruit bowl on the table. I pulled a chair out and sat on it. I stretched my hand out to grab a banana from the bowl.

"Okay, I see someone is getting ready for tomorrow, most girls choose black or pink nail polish, why red, honey?" She dropped two sandwiches and a glass of almond milk before me. I thanked her.

"I was just experimenting with it, you know I have never had my nails done, like never"

"I see, just get a darker colour, so it matches your skin and red hair." She said, joining me at the table. I just nodded.

"Can I have some meat?" I blurted out without even knowing, I'm sure I did not say that. I most definitely do not have a deep stern voice, I have a light silky voice. I am very certain that was not me because of the surprise on my mum's face. My own thoughts are eating me up, so I hope that I do not get interrogated.

" Honey, you are vegan! Or are you considering changing to lacto vegan instead?" She blinked several times.

"Just kidding, I wanted to see your reaction, trust me the look on your face is priceless. See? I did not even use my real voice." I laughed out loud. And she smiled back with relief on her face.

" Thanks mum" I finished my meal and left for the door, with my big backpack and glasses. I still need to wear the glasses because I would not have an explanation for a sudden cure to my impaired vision.

" Hey there little red" I was welcomed by Mrs Linda. She called me little red right from when I was a child, because of my red hair. I appeared at doctor Scott's house but Mrs Linda his wife told me he was out to the clinic. She told me that the case was urgent and I will not want to go there as he might not be free to talk to me. Mrs Linda is a friend to my mum and the Scott's and my family have been friends for a long time, even before I was born. That's why I instantly became friends with Sean, their son, he is a year older than I am. I thanked her and left for doctor Scott's clinic. All the while, I had my hands in my hoodie pocket because Mrs Scott can't be fooled, not in the slightest, she would always be the first to know when something seems to be off and I do not want to be cross examined when I am not sure of the situation myself.

Sean is not at home so he must be at the clinic too. What took them out of the house so early and I hope doctor Scott will not be so busy that I won't get to meet him.

I met Sean walking towards the stairs with an IV set in his hands as soon as I opened the door and before I could say a word, he scaled up the stairs and was out of sight. He seemed different. I can not lay my hands on what it was exactly and that incredible speed he used to ascend the stairs, almost making him a blur. An air filled with blood scent hit me. No one was at the stairs but everyone else seemed not to notice Sean, as they went about their own business. I went after him.

I ascended the stairs, by the wall I could clearly read the words 'L-ZONE' . It was written in red sprinkled font, like it was done with an artist's brush. I blinked and the text read 'Out of Bounds' in normal serif fonts. What is this? Why did I see two signs on one? I wonder what an L-ZONE is? Besides I have never heard of an L-ZONE in a clinic or is it some kind of code name? I mean I have not seen this before, all this while I have been to the clinic, or maybe it is because I took the rear entrance for the first time, the front door was locked I contemplated going back home but since Mrs Linda said doctor Scott is in the clinic, I decided to check the rear entrance and it was open. I have never seen Sean run that fast and what was more surprising was that he doesn't seem athletic in any way.

I reached the lobby, I knew I was lost. All the rooms that were facing each other, about ten of them, five on the left side and five on the right side, had metallic silver colored doors and all the rooms had their doors shut. No sign of doctor Scott, no sign of Sean, not even a nurse unlike down stairs a few nurses were walking up and down. The place started feeling eerie and I contemplated going back home for the second time this morning, but something keeps giving me the courage to stay. I walked deeper into the lobby. I heard a loud groan that first came out like a howl of a husky then undulated into a human groan sound.

What was going on in there? The sooner I find doctor Scott, the sooner I get these answers. I followed the sound and paused at the first door on the left side and it had the same writing with the words 'Physiotherapy' I blinked and it read out of bounds again. What is this? My confusion gets even worse. That was where the sound came from. In a split second the sound stopped and I could hear whispers from inside.

"Something is at the door"

The first voice said, making me look back subconsciously.

"Leif, I have told you to be polite with your words, I sense someone not something." The second whisper voice said with a tint of amusement in his words.

The two are male voices and the first thought that came into my mind was Sean was with his boyfriend but on second thoughts, his boyfriend is Allen not Leif. So who is Leif, could he be cheating?

" Are you expecting anything?"

"I'm not expecting 'someone' not 'anything', stop it Lief."

" Then go see what is at the door"

" I would let go of the bandage and go check who's at the door and not what"

"I will howl your eardrums out if you dare let go"

For some reasons, I felt offended for being called a thing.I heard an agonising groan louder than the first coming from inside the room. The anger started walking its way up my nerves. I felt my nails grow longer from the hoodie pockets and poke it open. The shock of seeing my nails elongate replaced the anger.

" What the f**k was that. Is that an alpha or maybe a witch?"

The voice I think belonged to Leif suggested while breathing heavily.

"Mind your language pups, you can only find out where such force came from if you checked "

"I'm an alpha, not just any pup. Besides I'm over eighteen." Leif said still whispering.

"I can hear you, just three months over eighteen, you are too funny Lief"

Now this voice sounded like doctor Scott. Although I could make out their voices, I couldn't understand a single thing that was said. Just then the door flung open and there stood doctor Scott with a huge smile on his face.

I was not expecting the door to open like that.

" Doctor Scott!" I screamed out of fear holding my chest and he cringed his nose while the other two voices groaned.

" What in the devil!" The Lief voice exclaimed.

" Who is it already!" Sean's voice exclaimed.

"I was expecting you to show up sooner than this. Do come in." He made space for me to pass through. I stepped in and it was cold inside. Dr. Scott shut the door behind me. And led the way. Just behind the frosted glass doors demarcating the interior and exterior spaces was Sean holding up a bandage that was wrapped around and extended from a guy's leg. The one I suspect to be Leif. He was lying on the bed with an IV inserted into his vein on his left hand.

"Glow!?" Sean exclaimed again in confusion, almost letting go of the bandage. "Sean! Be careful." Dr. Scott said, looking at an x-ray picture over the fluorescent light.

" Glow, take a seat. '' I sat on the metal chair by the wall, putting my backpack on my lap. This was directly opposite the bed and I could see Leif clearly. For some reason I was looking at everything wide eyed because I have never been in this part of the clinic.

When I landed my eyes on Leif, he was staring back at me. He has grey eyes that look like sparkling silver, perfect jawline, exclusively red lips and luscious black silky hair. From his length on the bed, I could tell he is very tall. He looks athletic. There's just one single word to describe him, that word would be hot. I chose hot because this person before me would be underrated by the word handsome.

"Humans" Leif scoffed. He must have noticed my expression because I couldn't help but stare at him. but I wonder what he means by that when he is clearly human too.

I'm beginning to think he is ugly. The moment I had that thought, my heart squeezed painfully. If I ever thought biology had explained my body to my understanding, that was an illusion because recently everything I thought I knew has just been overridden.

He wore a jersey with the words 'Crushers' which means one thing, he plays basketball with the Greenwood college in Greenwood then what is he doing here in Nesville. The Greenwood basketball team boys have been the ideal dream guy of every girl in Nesville High because of the rumours. They are said to be extraordinarily handsome, all members of the team just happen to be graded most handsome in the whole Greenwood college, even more handsome than the basketball guys in Nesville. Every girl in the two cities wanted a basketball boyfriend from Greenwood college. Except me of course because I know I am automatically under their league. I have always thought that it was all just rumours not until today I've been able to see one of those rumoured guys. Like they say, in every rumour, there is an element of truth in it.

Doctor Scott massaged Leif's bandaged leg and there was no reaction from him.

" I guess it's done, two more minutes, Sean, pull harder." Dr. Scott ordered and held Leif's leg still. Sean pulled harder.

After two minutes, the bandage was unwrapped and there was not even a scratch or scar mark on his leg, then what were they treating?

He jumped off the bed and stomped his feet.

" All good, Elder Scott, I will be sure to tell my father of your kindness." He nodded and walked towards the door. Before he passed through the glass door, he paused. " Is this edible? I need a snack" he pointed to me.

"Do you need a snack? Go hunting on your lands"

Sean pushed him out the door and the two of them left.

"Dr. Scott, I do not feel so good."

"Dr. Scott, I do not feel so good, things are happening to me."

As soon as the door closed, I pulled down

My hoodie cap, let down my hair and flex my nails before him.

"I do not know what is happening? Is this a terminal illness, is it a variation of a disease, an outbreak? I can not be this monster, I do not want to die, am I going to die?" I paced the room while speed talking and yelling in confusion and fear, the last part of my sentence.

Doctor scott let out a laugh and I was left bewildered as to what was funny. As soon as he discovered how quiet I was he told me to have a seat, then he started examining my hair under the light. "How did this happen?" he asked and I didn't know where to start.

"I woke up like this." I just shrugged not knowing what else to say.

"Really? Nice nail polish. I don't have all day, Miss. " He said standing up from his seat.

" I hear things too. Sometimes a whisper like it's from within me and sometimes It's from my surroundings. Whatever it is, believe it or not, there's something happening." I said in one breath.

"What things do you hear?"

"A female voice, calling me strange names." I explained

"What names?"

"Gun– something, wolfa–whatever…I know it's an ancient tongue."

I noticed the shock and sudden interest on his face as he picked up my fingers and looked intently at my nails.

"Doctor Scott, am I going to die?" I panted.

"Nope. If my speculations are right, in fact you should be happy."

Then he stood up from the high stool by the examination desk and started organising the first aid tools he just made use of on Leif.

"Why then do I smell the blood from the ongoing surgery two theatres away?" I just couldn't help but ask because it became disturbing and unbearable.

"Nope again, you can't smell that, I just dressed a wound here, there's blood here." He said looking at me without breaking eye contact and I can see his pupils dilate, as he stated, matter of factly.

"Dr Scott I am certain there's something wrong with me, please examine me carefully. I can't let my mum see me like this. I'm also having a pretty bad time at school, so appearing like this next week is a disaster." I blurted out, then I went ahead to tell him how I felt glued to the moon, the howling, the clear vision I got without using my glasses, my little stunt reflexes at school and the fact that I could hear his heartbeat. The attitude and response I got from Dr. Scott was flimsy and I couldn't believe it. This was something that could change my life forever, yet he was acting as though it were extremely normal and casual.

"You just need a salon appointment. Your nails and hair are cool enough just get your hair game right, curl it up, stretch it out or something. Then cut your nails a bit. You are perfectly fine and I have a meeting in the next few minutes."

I don't know why, but for some reason I felt the anger burning in my chest and the need to knock him out. How can he blow me off just like that, I know something is not right and he was not even paying attention to me.

As I watched him run his errands around the room ignoring me, I found myself even more pissed off and before I could understand what was happening, there was a clattering sound of metals falling to the floor and Dr Scott was on the floor groaning in pain behind the Frosty glass.

I was growling. That I was the cause of the scene before me left both Dr. Scott and I stunned.

"Okay! let's get you examined for real, the meeting can wait. This is clearly beyond great hair and perfect nails." He said, in a croaky pained voice, crawled towards me and I could feel myself calm down. He stood up and dusted himself up. At this point the surprise I got from hurting Dr. Scott had stopped my growling.

"I'm sorry Dr. Scott I didn't mean to hurt you. Am I going to die?" I panicked and I could feel the wetness on my cheeks. The fear that enveloped me out of realisation that everything that had been happening was never a coincidence, from my hair, nails, hurting Sean, back at school, moments ago and now almost killing Dr. Scott with my growling. Realisation dawned on me that this was more than ordinary transformation. I'm evil.

"No one's dying, but there's actually a resurrection in course here." he said, performing some stretch on his arm and waist. I sat back and listened to what he had to say.

"If my suspicions are right, you are evolving, you are almost eighteen and your other self is manifesting. Your wolf is birthing." He took off a big heavy book off the shelf and dropped it on the table and the dust filled the room. Whatever he was saying, interpreted gibberish to me. How can a human be a wolf? I asked myself.

"I'm turning seventeen, Dr. Scott." I corrected him, feeling that I had to, even when it was unnecessary.

"Easy, now the only thing we have to find out is what you are, why it's manifesting early, what training your wolf needs, your mate and your rank. The power you exude is alarming and destructive even when you are not fully metamorphosed." Dr. Scott said, flipping through the pages of the book.

"Dr. Scott I don't understand what you are saying at all. I am human, my mum is human, my late father was also human, what are you saying about finding out what I am. Please make me understand."

"I hate to be the one to break this to you. Glow, Your father was an Alpha werewolf , Leader of Nesville Clan."

✶✶✶✶✶✶✶✶✶

"I hate to be the one to break this to you. Glow, your father was a shapeshifter and Leader of Nesville Clan. He was a kind and great leader amongst our kind, may he rest among the stars of the moon goddess." he sighed and looked up at the ceiling.

The only truth I have always known is that my dad is dead and nothing else. I only see his face in pictures as I was told he passed away when I was just six months old. No one has ever told me anything about him being a shapeshifter or something of that nature, not even my mum. Mythical creatures I know about were all characters in books. How then could my own father be a mythical creature, does that mean my mum has also been a shapeshifter all these while? If I heard right, did he say there's a whole clan here in Nesville? There are a variety of shape shifters, so what kind are my parents? What am I? I found it hard to resolve this conflict in my head.

"What Kind of shape Shifters are my parents? My curiosity forced me to ask.

He explained to me that Nesville and GreenHill clans are werewolf clans, with GreenHill being the larger, more powerful and most successful among all four werewolf clans. However, like every other clan, werewolves cohabit with humans and can never expose themselves to the human world. When I asked him if there were any shape shifters in my school he laughed, handed me a drink and explained further telling me that majority of the students at my school were werewolves and the school itself was owned by the clan so it was only the kids whose parents are human politicians with the Idea of our existence that were allowed. Apparently, only ten percent were humans. My jaw dropped once he concluded his explanation.

"Your father, Hillside Kinderston was an alpha werewolf and your mother is a human." He said sipping his water and his cell phone beeped, he had to go.

I made my way back home, chewing on the curd of every word Dr Scott just dumped on me.

It didn't feel good to know that some secrets about my existence were kept away from me, especially by my mother. I trusted her but now is this a Fate I have to accept and live with?
