Chereads / Spectre of Corvus / Chapter 38 - Unveil

Chapter 38 - Unveil

Back in the decimated castle of the capital city of Chimbell, a vast storm raged atop it. Thunderbolts sounded one after another as the breeze of wind crumbled the settlement in the city. *BANG!!!* *BANG!!!* *BANG!!!* The tempest kept getting stronger and stronger as the eye of the storm got bigger.

Such was the current situation of the capital.

The imperial soldiers who gave chaos and suffering to the capital city of Chimbell were now running for their lives. They ran outside the decimated castle with all their might as if they had seen a monstrous entity treading within it. Well, the one they had seen was not that much different from a monster.

So at least they had the appropriate reaction to the situation.

Anyhow, the imperial army general in charge of seizing the monarchy of Chimbell was currently out of action. He got thrown out of the decimated castle and hit the wall at great speed. Most would expect him to be dead at the very moment. Though the impact wasn't the one that killed him.

As the chaos within the imperial army ensued, a lady exited the gate of the decimated castle. She had long silver-white hair reaching her waist and light-magenta irises followed by slit pupils. She wore a general uniform, and most importantly, she had a pair of crow-like wings behind her back.

She was the Krieger summoned by the queen of Chimbell through a sacrifice.

She was none other than Alastair Hecate.

The First Krieger.

"They are relatively fast in escaping." A smile emerged on Alastair's face as she couldn't help but slightly chuckle at the escaping imperial soldiers. The moment their general fell, they ran without any hesitation. Though, running would not be a good word. The imperial soldiers were simply tactically retreating.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Alastair walked down the stairs as the imperial soldiers continued running away from her. Rumors about her immediately had spread all over the capital city. This means that the other imperial army generals must have heard of her. But that wasn't much of a problem for Alastair.

Their numbers wouldn't help them against fighting her.

While walking through the grand stairs of the decimated castle, Alastair had finally arrived at the gate that separated the castle and the capital city of Chimbell. She noticed the misty dust shrouded it and had finally perceived a figure lying on the ground. That figure was the general of the imperial army.

The one who flew through the air and died in the most gruesome way that was currently possible in the situation.

Alastair looked at him with an emotionless expression plastered on her face. She didn't mind or even care that much about the bastard. But, the way he died intrigued her. It was pretty surprising that his death concluded in such a way. "Hmm... What a strange way to die."

The imperial army general lay on the ground as his corpse got positioned in a strange way.

Before he flew in the air, Alastair spun the general's neck as an instant death. But, at a surprising moment, the general didn't lie. How he was alive despite having a broken neck wasn't something Alastair could answer. Though, despite not dying, he still couldn't do anything against Alastair.

Like any average person, after Alastair saw the not-dead general. She killed him once again without any hesitation. Alastair pretty much made his chest ribs collapse into his lungs. She also crushed his neck and afterward threw him towards the gate of the decimated castle.

The imperial general then died, which was a good thing.

Alastair would rather not deal with an undying bastard.

"Though, I'm still wondering how that general didn't die with his neck broken. There must be something in the empire or in this world that is different from normal." Alastair silently questioned as she shook her head and decided there was no need to think much about the problem.

"I won't stay long in this world, so worrying about such things is useless. I simply need to follow the contract I created and go back to Spectrum." Alastair nodded to herself and continued walking through the grand staircase. The imperial army was before her. Terminating them would give her many souls, aiding Alastair in her growth.

With this in mind, Alastair's expression turned cold. The imperial soldiers escaping through the gate then felt a crushing feeling enveloping their bodies. They couldn't move a single muscle as their necks began turning afterward. They didn't know what had happened, resulting in chaos ensuing at the gate.

"What happened! Why can't I move!?"

"Sh*t! I can't move!!!"

"HELP!!! Please, help me!"

The voices of the soldiers trapped under the crushing feeling and the slowly turning of their necks sounded throughout the gate. They tried to do everything to escape from the strange control. But unfortunately for them, their necks didn't stop turning. It didn't take a while for it to break.

The cracks of bones then sounded in the gate of the decimated castle. The imperial soldiers noticing the deaths in the gate, began to panic even more. Who had done such a terrible thing? Such was the deep question within their minds. No one could answer such a question, and the soldiers continued to react to the situation.

"What the-"

"What happened to them?!"

"I don't know... They broke their necks for no reason!"

"We should escape!!!"

With this, the imperial soldiers continued running away with all their might. Though unfortunately for them, the moment they passed through the gate of the decimated castle. A strong crushing force enveloped their bodies. Just like the soldiers before, it was time for them to die.

But unlike before, the current imperial soldiers had their bodies levitating into the air. They looked confused and fearful of the situation they found themselves in, especially with their bodies floating in the air. It was simply a strange situation for them. Though, such things wouldn't be the first thing they would need to worry about.

"As expected, Poltergeist is really useful."

A soothing voice sounded within the panicking imperial soldiers. Upon hearing such words, the imperial soldiers turned their gazes towards where the voice came from. What they saw was none other than a beautiful young lady who was wearing military clothing.

They felt their cold sweat dripping from their foreheads as one of them questioned with a worried tone. "Who's that lady." The soldiers hearing him, immediately answered without any hesitation. "She's the one that killed the general in the castle. She's the demon summoned by the monarchy of Chimbell."

"Wait, what?"

"That young lady murdered the general?" The imperial soldiers couldn't believe what they had heard. Rumors about a monstrous abomination had already spread, but that spoken monster being a gorgeous young lady was something they didn't know, resulting in their disappointing recent shock.

"She controls a strange power that stranged the general and threw him into the gate. Don't get near her, or else we would die without even noticing it." An imperial soldier warned his comrades, which was unfortunately too late. After all, most of the imperial soldiers in the decimated castle gathered together near the gate.

Without any further thought, every neck of the imperial soldiers broke with a simple and unfortunate twist. Their dead bodies levitated from the ground, which was quite a horrifying sight to see. It didn't take a while for them to drop back to the ground, resulting in a loud thud.

Alastair walked through the decimated castle's gate with a cold expression plastered on her face. Corpses of the imperial soldiers surrounded her, though it seemed that Alastair didn't mind the dead bodies that much. She was already used to seeing the corpses of her enemies.

It was a dangerous thing to get used to.

"Killing all of them is pretty hard. Collateral damage might appear if I go all out, so I must secure the hostages before continuing on the imperial army's termination." Alastair uttered with a calm voice. She was talking to herself regarding her future steps in dealing with the army.

With this in mind, Alastair continue walked forward to the square of the capital city. Each footstep of herself sounded throughout the streets like the chimes of doom. She had a cold expression as every soldier near her mysterious died by their necks being twisted.

Such was the merciless Alastair. Unfortunately, it didn't take that much time for the rumors to become worse than before. An abomination demoness had been summoned by the monarchy of Chimbell. That was what the imperial soldiers thought of Alastair. It was from the corpses she had left behind, twisted beyond relief.

In the plaza of the capital city, the imperial soldiers were running away with all their might. The generals from outside the capital city had ordered an all-retreat from the capital. It was due to the fact that the confusion and the chaos brought upon by the lack of command structure would be a problem for them.

"What's happening? Why are they running away?" An injured citizen questioned in shock. He didn't know why the demons began running away from the decimated castle. Did something happen with the monarchy of Chimbell? Such was the question within his mind.

The imperial soldiers guarding the plaza then questioned the escaping soldiers. "Oi, did something happen? Why are you running away from the castle?" One of the escaping soldiers stopped and heavily breathed. After a while, he then answered the question of the guarding soldiers.

"The monarchy of Chimbell had summoned an abomination. The generals outside had ordered an all-retreat. It doesn't matter what mission we were given before. The imperial army must not continue to dwell in this crazy city." After replying to the guarding soldiers, the escaping soldier continued to run.

"Eh? Abomination? All-retreat!?" The guarding soldiers found themselves confused. They turned their heads toward the captured citizens and then looked in the direction where the escaping soldiers ran from. They furrowed their eyebrows as they nodded to themselves.

At that moment, the imperial soldiers had abandoned their duties and escaped along with many of the soldiers like them. No one wanted to face an abomination beneath the confusion and chaos. Those that met the abomination died mysteriously without even noticing how.

That was relatively enough for them to look at Alastair as an abomination. It doesn't matter what her gorgeous body and beautiful face say. The actions escaping from her weren't something a goddess would do. Twisting the necks of the soldiers around her was something a monster would do. Heck, a demon might even be a better title for her.

"Did they just run off? Just like that?" Another one of the surviving citizens couldn't believe what they were seeing. The dominating imperial army was running away without any hesitation. Their tails were tucked under their legs, and it was because of an abomination that had emerged within the decimated castle.

"Should we run like them?" A citizen questioned with a shaken tone as another replied nonchalantly. "To go where? Back to those bastards who would sooner or later feed us to the pigs? Even if we try to kill ourselves. the bastards would stop it so that they would be able to torture us."

"We should assess the situation first and act later." An old man said with a calm voice while being shackled by metallic chains. He was a retired soldier of the knights of Chimbell. Never did he think that he would live long enough to see the country he gloriously defended crumble.

For him, it was an unfortunate fate.

But even then, as long as one of the royal members was alive. Chimbell can grow out of this darkness. How many have this kingdom fall but risen afterward? In history, were nations conquered or get conquered. The Kingdom of Chimbell had never invaded anyone.

That was the iron-clad rule.

"We should never give up on this country. Even if we are the only ones left, we must continue to strive in this cold world." The old man said with a calm voice as echoing footsteps sounded right after. All of the citizens within the square turned their gaze towards where the sound was.

The only thing they could see was the mist created by the smoke, dust, and ashes. But after a while, a figure slowly emerged from the fog.

A gorgeous young lady clad in a military uniform.

With a pair of crow-like wings behind her waist, she resembled that of a fallen angel.

She walked toward the citizens as she continued the words of the old man with a smile plastered on her face.

"After all, there is only one way when falling into the rock-bottom."

"And that is only up."
