Chapter 41 - A New Home

Regius felt no need to be in the spotlight right now he had done that enough so he waited in his seat quietly as each student got their things and filed out of the room , he had even missed seeing Ashlyne whenever she had gone up and waited so that he was the last person to go up to get his uniform.

Devlin noticed him instantly and his eyes lit up like the fourth of July. "Young master, how nice of you to join us." Devlin fumbled around in his pocket and pulled out a key with a gold tag as well as a red badge that was a card holder for a student ID that held a picture of Regius taken god knows when but sometime during the trial.

The attendants brought up a uniform distinctly different from the ones that had been handed out to the rest of the class. "When society fell a lot of things changed and one of those things is that the man with the biggest stick gets to decide the rules , seeing as how you are certainly one of the two strongest from this year's freshman class you are given special privileges. One of those privileges is this uniform."

The normal uniform was grey but the uniform that Regius was being handed was black. "The standard uniform from our school is equal to a rank two artifact and can protect the wearer from light injuries as well as has a built in self repair and cleaning function. This uniform however is equal to a rank 4 artifact with improved defense as well as the ability to gather mana to help the wearer cultivate. This key will lead to the suite that is your room which differs from the shared rooms of the students and there are only 2 suites for each year awarded to the number one and number two students of each year.

The room is not only more spacious it's actually enchanted by the dean himself to be almost the size of a house despite taking up the same space of a normal room. It comes with its own training facility as well as a shower that is imbued with restorative properties to help you recover. The rest of the info will be in your pamphlet and an attendant will show you to your room."

Regius accepted everything and began to walk away when he heard Devlin clear his throat behind him. "The world has done you and yours wrong time and time again and I can't apologize enough for that but being alone is not gonna make your journey any smoother. There is so much yet for you to do and so many hurdles to cross, consider making friends or even forming a team even your father didn't travel the Myriad realms alone."

Regius had stopped in place to listen to Devlins words and when he looked at him Devlin saw not the eyes of an eighteen year old boy but that of a vicious predator looking at prey as Regius stared into him and responded "And look where that got him." Regius turned back around and followed the attendant out as she led the way towards where he would be staying for the next four years.

Regius followed the attendant while browsing through the pamphlet the freshman would take all of their classes together for their first year and it would be one 3 hour class a day five days a week. Monday would be an intro to races of the myriad realms. Tuesday would be the introduction of elements. Wednesday would be combat training. Thursday would be intro spell creation and Friday would be the intro to Astra course. Regius looked at the page that held his schedule and questioned why he came here in the first place other than Macarthur's poking and prodding this entire first year would be wasted these courses would not be able to help the current him improve he had his fathers notes and no teacher here would dare say they were more qualified then his father.

Regius flipped to page 2 of the pamphlet and was finally interested as it was his true goal in coming here. Six months in, each of the students would be expected to have formed a squad and the whole class would be taken to the local Adventurers Union hub to be registered.

The registration process would also double as the mid terms for the year and any student not able to get at least an F rank Adventurers license would have until the end of the year to fix that or risk repeating the year. Once the license was acquired students would be able to accept jobs from the school board which was posted by groups internationally or even by students and faculty .

This would allow the students to redeem points that allowed them access to higher ranks of Astra cores , mana beast materials and tonics made to improve the body, a person's talent , or their cultivation of mana. Students from the college at this point could also be called to help handle emergency situations that would spring up on Earth. Regius grinned but it quickly faded , this would certainly be the most boring six months of his life leading up to then but after the six months he could just keep taking jobs and only return to the college for his finals before the next year began.

Regius flipped through the rest of the pamphlet and it detailed the different school facilities that required points to use as well as the end of year inter school competition that all first years would have to participate in but as he finished he realized they had reached their destination.

The attendant turned to him and this was the first time he had actually looked at her and he had to admit she was quite beautiful it made him question why Devlin kept so many of these attendants around to run tasks for him. It reminded him of the Valkyries and instantly his heart warmed and froze at the same time as he looked at the young woman.

Her voice was light and pleasant on the ears "Young Master Lowe this is your suite and If there's any questions you may have here is my business card if its you calling I am certainly available twenty four seven."

The woman seemed to blush as she handed Regius the card and scampered away while the pass she had made at him went completely over his head. He turned the key in the lock and the door seemed to hum as it clicked open. Regius stepped inside and was amazed by how large it was , even larger than where he stayed in the warehouse.

To his left after entering was a large kitchen but straight back was a large glass window that showed him that he was high in the clouds like the rest of New York. He had a balcony that rested in the clouds and the outdoor area had a pool and was decorated to look like a well maintained garden that hung suspended in the air among the very same clouds that the present day New York sat on. His bedroom held a king sized bed, a nightstand and two separate walk in closets. There was a bathroom that could be accessed from his bedroom and another out in his already furnished living room.

The décor was minimalist and suited him with the couch having enough space to fit about three people and another bathroom situated in his living room area. He walked down a flight of stairs to a training room that was reminiscent of Macarthur's basement and nodded in satisfaction. When he got back up he noticed a card on the island that he had missed when he walked in initially and instantly spotted Macarthur's familiar handwriting.

"I designed your suite myself and sent the specifications to the school because there was no doubt in my mind that you would claim one of the two top of the class spots. You've grown so much but sometimes it's hard for me to see you as anything other than the damaged little boy who all those years ago tried to rob me , His own godfather. I'm so very proud of the man you are becoming and my only wish is that I live long enough to see you and Peter usher in a new generation. Hopefully this place is set in a way that will make you feel comfortable. PS I left you several cases of cigarettes in the kitchen cupboard. I give up on making you kick the habit but these are special. They will stimulate the recovery of Mana so while you are out and about you can recover quicker." The bottom was signed "With love ,Your forever Umbrella Macarthur."
