"So, now that we are here, what do you need me for?" Miss Tiffany said, resting her back on her seat, waiting for her order.
"Miss Tiffany is it? What made you think I had an interest in you? You are not even that beautiful," Erwin joked with her. That was his personality, he was a jovial person. He took a sip from the glass of water that was at his front.
"Please, Mr Lawyer or whatever you are can we talk? Is this what you need me for?" She was still pissed about the whole drama that happened earlier, and she didn't want him to add to it.
"Yeah... Yeah, I am here to ask about the incident that happened at your workplace four years ago." At that point, when he asked her that question, his face became more serious than before.
"What incident? Do you mean the M.D's homicide case? You are meeting the wrong person. I was hired after the case. The ones that worked there then were fired."
"Are you serious?"
"Yes. If I am to ask, why are you interested in a case from four years ago?"
"Something feels odd about it. M.D's friend, the only one that survived it because he wasn't with them said they were five of them that went on the excursion," Erwin said, tilting his head and then serving it back straight. It looked like he was bothered about something.
"Yes, what's wrong if they were five?"
"Three of them died, one of them bolted away from there, according to the report everyone heard,"
"So?"
"What happened with the fifth person?"
"Hmm..." Miss Tiffany thought, placing her finger on her chin, " Thinking about it, that's true. But, what has that gotten to do with you?"
"Nothing, I feel like I should reinvestigate it, I have a feeling M.D isn't the killer,"
"Why do you think so?"
"There is no evidence that points him out as the culprit."
"Well, the initials engraved on their body was enough evidence," Miss Tiffany was getting interested in the conversation. Her embarrassment had completely cleared off her face.
"Nope, that is something that could have been done by the fifth person, no one saw M.D do that to them, the other one that could have done it became anonymous. I would love it if I could meet up with the fifth person, and those that worked there before you. I would also love to watch the CCTV footage from your workplace,"
"Well, the crime scene itself was an open area, and with the way it was situated, it wasn't possible to set a CCTV there. As for those that worked there before, I could check up their record and provide them to you if you also need them" Miss Tiffany assured him. "But, Lawyer Ceaser, why are interested in this case from four years ago?" She asked once more.
"Well, someone has to be greedy at times. My law firm isn't doing so well, so, using this case, finding out the truth would help the growth of my law firm. A simple receptionist job is too small for someone like you, so, how about you become my Personal Assistant if it works out?"
Although, Erwin lied to her about his reason, all of it wasn't lies. Sixty thousand Xin was not an amount that could move him, who earned about a million Xin a year. So he did it to help a friend and his law firm. The case had become nationwide, and him defending the defendant and winning the case with facts was his main aim. It was a Win-Win.
"Do you mean if I help you, I would get the job of your P.A? Is it worth the move? I earn about fifteen Xin per hour. So, you would have to go above that."
"Hmph!" He chuckled, "How about forty Xin per hour?"
Miss Tiffany raised her eyebrow in amazement, she saw it as the best opportunity she could get at that time.
"If you say forty, then we are talking about one hundred and seventeen Xin per year, right?"
"Yes," Erwin nodded.
"Since we all want to be greedy, I would prefer to help you if you decide to employ me after giving you all you need,"
"I am not following,"
"Well, if I am going to get that footage and files, I might be leaking confidential information. If I need to do that, I should prepare to get fired. So, once I hand them over to you, I would get my job," Miss Tiffany stated, she took her cup of water and stretched it to Erwin for cheers.
Erwin thought about it for some minutes, then he took his cup and clanked it with hers. The deal was done.
The next day, Miss Tiffany got to work. She was able to get the CCTV footage and the documents of their employees. As she guessed, she was caught, but she was able to deliver the memory card containing the footage. She was able to get the files of about two of the workers before she got caught.
She handed the files over to Erwin and got her job instantly.
That day, Erwin moved to visit the workers that Miss Tiffany had provided for him.
"First of them is Aiden Wyatt, let's see..." Erwin took a quick look at the address on the document of Aiden Wyatt. He input that address on the map of his phone. He followed the direction till he got to the entrance of his house, and he walked to the entrance door of the house.
After a quick introduction, He let Erwin sit down.
"Lawyer Ceaser, what have you visited me for? Did my son get into some trouble? Is he in the station right now?" The man, Aiden looked like he was in his fifties. He was tensed up while he asked all those questions.
"No, calm down, I am here for an entirely different issue,"
"It's not my son? Thank Goodness, so please why are you here?" The man had calmed down.
"It's about a case that happened when you worked at Autumn Park," Erwin said carefully, to not allow the man to get tensed.
"Autumn Park? M.D?" From the way the man sounded, he was beginning to get tensed again.
"Yes, sir. Please is there anything you could tell--" Erwin didn't finish what he said when the man stood up, opening the door of his house.
"Please leave, I have nothing to say about that case,"
"Sir, why? I only need a statement," Erwin tried to persuade the man.
"No, I have nothing to say,"
"But why?"
"Must I say a thing! I wanted to talk years ago, but I was fired. So that the public won't find out, my other colleagues were fired because of me. They said we were fired because we didn't do our jobs well,"
Erwin smiled a bit. He seemed like he had caught a big fish. When the man was fired, he would have tried to get a job elsewhere, but who would want to hire someone whose negligence led to the death of three children?
So, it was only normal that the man would have been living a jobless life. Hearing him talk about his son earlier would only mean that his son had been catering for his needs or maybe his wife was the one upholding the family if he had one. So, living a jobless life would have been very unbearable for him.
"Sir, what about I give you a job in my law firm? It won't be something much. A security position would do, right? You would earn twenty Xin per hour,"
The deal was also a good one, so the man began to consider it. When he approved, he closed the door and went to sit beside Erwin.
"Do you really mean it?"
"Of course, all you need to do is say what you saw that day,"
"Okay. That day, five kids walked into Autumn Park, three guys and two girls. One of the girls was Mayor Creed's daughter, Creed Leia, but she and M.D were missing after the whole incident.
I was pretty sure they didn't leave through the entrance gate. We wanted to use the CCTV footage to confirm it, but, they didn't let us have access to it."
"Why didn't they investigate Leia during interrogation?"
"I think her father pulled the strings, well I tried to speak out, and what I got was a letter informing me that I was fired for my carelessness."
"Thank you so much," Erwin got up from where he sat, he handed over a contact card to the man and told the man that he was hired at his company. The man was overjoyed.
'Mayor Creed Huh, I see where this is getting to, I think I am getting almost all the pieces, all that would be left is assembling them,' Erwin thought when he walked out.
His next move was to find Leia and question her.
When Erwin got to his hotel that night, he continued with the investigation, watching footage throughout the night, looking for anything that could help him.
Of course, he got what he wanted, the evidence that showed there were five of them.
When the day broke, He had gotten more pieces. All that was left was to get Leia.
"Good night... no... morning," He mumbled to himself, smiling.
