"I didn't see you when I woke up."
"I- was just outside. When did you wake up? You shouldn't be sitting up. Are you okay? Do you feel pain?" I rub her shoulders gently.
"Your brother, tell him to have his medicine. He doesn't want it."
I respond with with an 'alright, mama'. I was perplexed, yet so relieved. She was so badly injured before. I didn't question it. H*ll, I was so filled with relief and gratefulness. I didn't need meals as long as she was well.
"I need to eat, my beautiful. I'm perfectly alright."
"But you need to rest. Here, let me help-"
I tuck the two, cylinder pillows behind so that she braced on them. I gently let her down, grasping the bowl and bringing it to her lips.
I stared as she drinks the medicine away. Fearful, I didn't want to leave her. A lump begins to form in my throat as I just sit there, my eyes trying to find elsewhere. It takes the heavy will for me to move.
