Chapter 49 - The Attack Begins

The world slowed down to a crawl as Raphael activated Thought acceleration, raising my thought processing speed a million times.

[WARNING! A nuclear magic attack has been detected.

This nuclear magic is combined with the holy magic disintegration.

Anyone who is killed by this nuclear magic will also have their souls destroyed.

Activating security measures]

The magic circuit that had been hidden under the streets activating at this very moment, a blue color shone first. Everyone inside the magic circuit saw the world slow down to a crawl as the thought acceleration affected each and every one of them. Every person inside Tempest heard the unfamiliar voice of Raphael.

The citizens who were not fit for battle heard this message.

<>

Those who were part of the army of Tempest heard the following message.

<>

As for those who were not citizens of Tempest.

<>

To Raphael's surprise, she got a couple of requests from a few of the citizens that went against the normal plan. But after thinking for a moment, she accepted them.

The next moment a white light shone and every person in Tempest disappeared. The citizens were sent to the safest place at the moment, Ramiris' Labyrinth. The ones who would fight were transported to the locations where their weapons and armor were located. And the rest were sent to Falmuth, not wanting to risk spies entering the Labyrinth.

The final light shone, it was a mixture of blue and white, and the moment it activated it created a barrier that covered all of Tempest. It was powered by magicule batteries that had been filled with Veldora's leftover magicules. And in theory, should be able to protect Tempest from any unexpected attacks.

*Booooooooooooom*

The attack hit at that very moment, leaving the barrier that was created full of cracks. And the moment the nuclear magic attack was finished, the barrier broke into pieces.

Inside my office, a burst of demon's lord aura and magicules going wild was released. The windows in the room cracked before exploding into pieces. I could feel Aeshma, lord of Fury burning in my soul.

I was furious. I was so furious I couldn't hold back my aura and magicules. If it wasn't for the struggling Souei that had fallen to the ground after I had released my aura I would have probably destroyed the building.

Aeshma was starting to consume my magicules to temporarily raise my strength, one of its hidden functions. It was feeding off my anger until I felt a warm aura embrace me.

[Calm down. If you lose control, think about what will happen to Tempest. We can be angry, but we can't lose control.]

The very next moment my aura disappeared and my magicules became stable. Yet I still felt the anger in my heart.

'What's the situation?'

[Report. The enemy has teleported an army that is surrounding Tempest

There appear to be five strong humans leading their own smaller armies.

The recommended course of action is to attack the leader, Granbell, and get rid of him as soon as possible. The ultimate skill he holds could be used once again to launch a large-scale disintegration on Tempest.]

'Alright, activate Lord of Fury on my subordinates. Don't let them go berzerk.'

[Understood. I will direct our army to the best locations in our city to intercept the enemy.]

'Let's go take care of the dumbass. Give the order to not hold back. Annihilate the enemy'

Granbell was standing in the distance as he watched the magic attack take place. He didn't let his guard down for a moment. Casting such a strong attack had left most of the strong magic casters completely depleted. Yet when the dust had settled, Tempest was still standing.

"Send in the army. You know what to do Razul and Mercury."

Mercury was a woman that appeared to be in her 20's. In truth, she was hundreds of years old. She was one of the Saints of the Clerics of the seven Luminaries. She was a mage who had devoted her entire life to the study of space magic, hoping to one day be able to travel to the other worlds from which people were summoned.

And, Razul was an insectoid-type monster. One who had come from another world in order to take over, but had abandoned his job and joined to serve under Granbell. Granbell had been to one to give him a name, and he was the strongest of his servants. As he had come from a different world he was very extremely familiar with space magic.

Space magic was extremely dangerous for transporting organic matter. It would irradiate the people being transported with magicules. However, it was possible to safely transport people if a magical barrier was integrated into the spell. Transporting so many people at once would have been seen as an impossible feat for most mages, even if working together in large groups. But with Mercury and Razul working together, and their combined knowledge of space, they had made the impossible possible. Of course, at a huge cost in magicules.

"Should we release him?" asked Mercury

"Not yet, we might have control of him but I don't think it would be wise to let him rampage. Only if we are facing the danger of defeat." answered Granbell.

At that moment, the army that Granbell had prepared appeared on the outside of Tempest, completely surrounding it. And they had begun their attack.

The armies began to rush into the city, ready to attack anyone on sight. Yet the streets appeared to be quite empty. Since Granbell and Mercury had stayed behind, the other five luminaries were leading their own squads from every direction. Yet they also had not encountered anyone. An eerie feeling was in the air.

Mars had been the first to reach the city center, where a statue of the demon lord was standing. He was leading an army behind him. He was carrying a large unique greatsword and his body was covered in unique armor.

"All of the monsters have gone into hiding! Let's see if they really respect their demon lord, or if they are just cowards." Mars exclaimed loudly, in hopes some of the people in hiding would make a sound. Yet nothing was heard.

"I guess they are really not even worth being called monsters. They are nothing but cowards."

Mars got ready to swing his sword to destroy the statue. And just as the sword was about to move forward the statue reacted. The hand that was on the sword pulled it from the scabbard and parried the strike.

The very next moment a bright beam of light descended from the sky and struck a portion of the army. It seemed as if nothing had happened, yet one by one they began to drop to the ground.

Mars had just launched the giant statue back with a strong strike before he was forced to block an attack that was coming above him. His feet had sunk into the ground and he struggled not to fall onto his knees. It was as if a building had just dropped on top of him.

He saw the attacker, a beautiful purple-haired woman with one black horn sticking out of her forehead. She had just swung down a massive weapon that, had he not blocked, would have sliced him clean in half. She was releasing an extremely strong aura and had a crazed expression on her eyes.

A crowd appeared out of nowhere surrounding him and the army he led. Standing out among the crowd by the magicules she was releasing was a pink-haired kijin. And the magicules around her were all brimming with holy magic.

….

Jupiter had just cast a massive fireball spell trying to draw the monsters out, yet that fireball had been cut in half and it had disappeared. A red-haired Kijin holding a katana was standing in front of them.

"I know my lord has given me orders to not worry about the damage I may cause to the city. But I would truly be a failure if I couldn't do the bare minimum to prevent damage."

The red-haired Kijin, Benimaru, used a controlled hell flame attack. Creating spears that launched towards the people invading and would only burn flesh. However, a wall conjured from the earth below was able to block the attack.

"If you think you can hurt us without holding back then you have already lost. Not that you had a chance after all." Jupiter boasted proudly.

His joy began to diminish once he started to feel many presences appearing out from nowhere.

"Attack!" Jupiter yelled out as he began to weave spells. The army behind him jumped to protect him and launched to attack the red-haired kijin in front of them.

...

Saturn was leading her army, she was wearing light armor for mobility and was holding a spear in her hand. She had been the unfortunate person to enter through the art district.

A massive spider statue had just stabbed some of her people with its legs. A dragon statue had launched and began to crush those who were unfortunate enough to be on its path. The art that was depicted on the walls had come to life and it was attacking her army. The paintings were weak and could be destroyed with just a couple of attacks, but the amount of them was enough to overwhelm the members of her army.

She had just destroyed a pegasus statue that had come to life but it had distracted her just long enough to let a portion of her army be killed. The disorienting attack had not allowed them to work together as a team and they were being one-sidedly slaughtered.

She activated her unique skill and launched an attack before it was blocked by a large orc wearing armor.

A massive orc who had not taken any damage from her attack.

...

The Luminary of the Moon, the only other saint, and the second strongest subordinate of Granbell was walking leisurely through the city with his army. He was confident no one in here could hurt him or his army.

"I guess this place is as good as any"

He lifted the sword he was holding and it began to glow with a massive amount of magicules. He was ready to launch an attack that would destroy the main building. But once he swung his sword down it was caught by a man wearing butler clothes and his attack was dispelled.

"Truly, you must have been dropped as a child. How can someone who has come so far as to become a saint be so stupid to dare to attack the city my lord holds dear." A wide smile that brought fear onto the hearts of everyone present appeared on his face. "Though I can't deny I am not glad you have attacked. For you have given me a chance to see my lord fight."

….

The last of the luminaries was Venus. And she had felt as if someone had been watching her for a bit now. She could feel danger but she didn't know from where. It wasn't until she saw a glimmer of a thread that she realized they were surrounded.

But by then it was too late to warn her army.
