Long black hair as dark as the night sky. Eyes silver and sharp as the stars. And her smile bright as the sun. Beautiful. That's all I could think as I was awestruck by her radiance. It was a beautiful spring day that I knew I would never forget, but I'm afraid she might've forgotten about me long ago...
Present day.
"Last stop Raglan. I repeat, last stop Raglan." A light shove. And another after another. I open my eyes and take my earbuds out as they blast my favorite song "Perfect Strangers" by Lil Wayne. I look to my right to see a man in his late 20's, named Derrick. A simple guy really with his casual wear of blue jeans and a black collared polo shirt, finishing it off with a black polo coat, evergreen eyes with jet black hair, just like hers; but not exactly. I've known him since I started attending my first year of high school, I was lost at first and missed my stop since I was still new to the area. He helped me and pointed me in the right direction because his job was in Hamilton so he knew his way around, and after that he always made sure I knew where I was going and even gave me his phone number just in case I ever got lost. Funny really, I've had to call him a couple of times because I really did end up lost a few times. I was born and raised in Raglan, a very small town with a population of 3,310, and he too lives in Raglan; I've never missed a stop ever since. "Hey we're almost there, might want to wake up." He said, "Thanks man, always keeping a look out for me." I joked, "Someone's gotta do it. I mean, we don't want you missing your stop again and get lost" He indulged in my joke. As I shake my head, smiling because we would never forget how lost I was, the train comes to a stop and we both get off. It's winter now and I haven't seen her in a few years, I was 12 when I first seen her and now I'm in my last year of high school. I even changed schools thinking she would be there but I was wrong, so wrong. As we walked down the sidewalk, we parted our ways saying goodbye, I always walk home by myself it wasn't always like this but I guess things change. I put my earbuds back into my ears as they play the next song "Doing it wrong" by Drake, it always gets me in my feelings. I looked down one of the alleyways that I pass and as i was about to look forward I saw her, I stopped dead in my tracks and looked back again; she's not there. Shaking my head in disbelief, I continued walking but stopped again "it was just my imagination, she's not here, she's not there..." although telling myself that I still go down the alleyway, walking first then turning into a light run until I realize I'm sprinting. I come out of the alleyway, looking left and right to see if I can spot her; i don't. Sighing to myself because I knew that she's wasn't there, I turn back into the alleyway until I see her hair this time turning down a street corner, "Shit" I mumbled under my breath as I again start running towards her direction. I approached the street she turned on looking everywhere for her, I spot her not too far I start running again passing through the crowds. I started catching up, so close, I reached my hand out to touch her shoulder "Leila.." I said, out of breath, she turned around and i realized it wasn't her "I- I'm sorry I didn't mean to bother you" I told her. She smiled so genuinely " Oh it's fine. Don't worry about it..." she turned to leave as I look down ashamed and the feeling of loneliness took over once more, she doesn't know how much of an impact she has made on me. I turned around starting to head home again, "Um, excuse me, aren't you Alexaiver?" I turned my head to her still having my back towards her, "Yeah, do I know you?" I asked, "Maybe not, but we're in the same English class together," she said with a smile, "We also had a project together to figure out the meaning of the planets names..I believe that's what it was." Oh yeah, I thought, shit what was her name? " Its Amelia. Amelia Cruz." She said as if she read my mind, "Oh yeah, sorry not really good with names. I should be getting home now," I told her as I started walking away "Wait!" She yelled. Sigh, what does she want now? I'm ready to go home and sulk in my bed, I turn around to face her and close the gap between us leaving inches from each other. I'm taller than her so I had to look down to see her and she was looking up right at me and for a second I lost myself in her light brown eyes as they twinkled in the sun. I didnt realize I was staring until I saw someone glow in her eye. It was something very subtle but it was clear to me, a light blue and red flickered, pulling me out of my trance and to look back at her and see her smiling at me. I step back one step to look at her and smirked, "You wanted to say something? Remember you did tell me to wait and here I am waiting" I told her as I saw her blush. I guess she didn't realize it either, hmm interesting, I thought. "Um," she started, " I was wondering, since we got a class project coming up I was hoping, if maybe, we can be partners?" I looked at her questionably. Class project? I didn't hear about this. Mental note: don't pass out when teacher is talking about projects. I looked at her, "Sure, it's not like anyone really likes being my partner anyway" I told her. Now it's her turn to look at me questionably," What do you mean? Why doesn't anyone want to be your partner?" She asked. I shrugged my shoulders," I don't even know why. People tend to avoid me, it's a mystery to me as well." We exchanged phone numbers and parted ways. Before I could even turn around I receive a text from a unknown number. I chuckled because the text was so weird yet oddly cute I sent my reply as I continued on my way.
