It took Roach nearly two hours to reach the charred corpse of the lizard. His torn-up legs made it even more difficult than it needed to be.
'God damnit how did my legs even get like this! Fuck it hurts! I'm seriously beginning to regret my decision in crawling here!'
Roach couldn't turn back now because that mean he'd have to crawl all the way back to the ruined hideout and there was no way he was going back when he was already close to the corpse.
'I just have to push through the pain!'
Roach gritted his teeth and continued crawling for a few more minutes as he crawled he thought about why the knights of the city hadn't shown up yet.
'Who am I kidding those guys would never show up unless the monsters fighting affected them. The whole east side is gone there are probably hundreds of people dead and they couldn't care less.'
Roach cursed the officials of the city in his heart until he reached the crater where the half-destroyed corpse of a monster lay smoking at its center.
The monster's entire back was gone and all its inners, the spine, ribs, and organs, were gone with it. Only a burnt husk of muscles and scales was left that barely resembled the former lizard.
Looking around Roach saw some giant blue bird feathers scattered here and there but he found nothing else that belonged to the other monster.
'I guess the rest of it was incinerated?'
Roach looked around some more but what was more surprising to him wasn't the lizard's massive corpse, it was the destruction all around it.
"This crater is huge and fucking deep! I have to crawl down into it to God damnit!" Yelled Roach.
Roach was now truly regretting crawling over here.
"Fuck!!!" Roach shouted, hurling himself recklessly into the crater.
Roach rolled down the side of the crater hitting his head and shoulders over and over again, swearing like a sailor, until he came to a stop at the bottom.
"That...wasn't very smart." Groaned Roach a trickle of blood coming out of his mouth. Now his entire body had gashes and bruises instead of just his legs.
He turned his aching head over to the dead lizard, forgetting why he even decided to come here in the first place.
"Christ, why did I even think this was a good idea? What can I do with that burnt-out husk anyway?!" Shouted Roach.
Cursing his poor decision making Roach looked around for anything useful but of course, he found nothing except burnt remains and blackened rock.
Roach cursed once more, Roach then turned to leave but stopped when he noticed something interesting near the lizard's snout.
'What's that shiny thing!'
Roach quickly inched his way over to the glimmering object buried in the ashen soil that looked like was dug up intentionally.
"Did this lizard come here for this?" Roach thought out loud.
Pulling it from the ground Roach held in his hands a rough amber cube with some red viscous fluid swirling inside.
"What the fuck is this piece of shit," Questioned Roach as he fiddled with the amber cube.
It wasn't very big being only the size of a Rubik's cube but for some reason, it was super heavy.
It was like it was made of solid steel! Roach could barely hold it with both arms, using all the strength he could muster.
"How am I gonna carry this back to the hideout when I can't even walk damnit!" Roach cursed as he tried to figure out what to do.
It was then he heard a familiar voice coming from behind him.
"Hey, kiddo...what is it...you got there?"
Roach surprised and slightly afraid spun his head around almost breaking his neck in the process only to see a battered and bloody Glenn walking closer to him.
"Kid you got something...don't you... What is it?" Said Glenn struggling just to say those few words.
'Why's he talking like that and why does he look so pale? No wait better question why is he here and where did he come from?!'
Roach was confused by Glenn's sudden appearance but before he could ask him anything, Glenn began coughing.
Cough!!! Cough!!! Cough!!!
Roach watched as Glenn coughed up blood violently and collapsed to his knees with a twisted look of pain on his aged face.
Roach noticed from under his robes he had severe third-degree burns all over his chest and stomach that exposed the red muscles underneath his burnt black skin.
Roach swore he could even see some white ribs and intestines poking their way from the charred mangled flesh.
"Holy Shit! How the hell are you alive?!" Cried Roach at Glenn's horrifically burned body.
Glenn laughed at Roach's profane language not caring that doing so caused him more pain and blood vomiting.
"Kid...kid listen...OUCH!... God's it hurts to talk!"
Glenn doubled over in pain, scrunching himself up into a little ball on the ground. Roach could even hear him quietly sobbing.
However, for some unknown reason, he still tried telling Roach something. Even though it caused him tremendous pain!
"Kid I don't have long listen...that cube if it's what I think it is...fuck! It hurts...just bring the cube to me quick!" Yelled the dying Glenn pausing several times to take a breath.
Roach was unsure of what to do but he thought it couldn't hurt him to give the worthless cube to the guy since he had one foot in the grave anyway.
"Yeah sure take it," Roach said throwing the cube over to him before he crawled over.
Glenn caught it and even held it with one hand without much difficulty which surprised Roach.
'Guess I'm just a weakling.' Roach thought while thinking about how hard it was for him just to throw the cube to Glenn.
Roach's focus was then drawn to Glenn who was freaking out right now. A crazed look of greed was smeared on his face which scared Roach a little.
'Oh, this can't be good.'
"Ha ha ha ha!" Glenn chuckled his eyes shining in anticipation like a kid's in a candy store.
Roach grimaced at Glenn's giggling, his crazed face and glimmering eyes made him only seem more insane.
'This really can't be good!'
