Colt suddenly realized that the black void was actually what he was truly seeing and not his vision failing. He could feel his body as he walked into nothingness trying to figure out what happened.
"I… Where am I?" He asked aloud not expecting an answer. However, a clear and powerful voice that drifted from every direction entered his ears.
"You are in the Waiting Area" the voice replied.
"Waiting area? Like in a hospital?" Colt thought maybe the loud noise he heard was some kind of accident he was involved in and he really was blind. 'But I don't feel injured' he thought, feeling strange and worried.
"The Waiting Area is not in the same existence as the life you know. It is nowhere, and yet, connected to everywhere." The voice very unemotionally explained. "Although you don't feel injured, you were indeed destroyed by an object from your world called a bus."
Stunned into silence, Colt's mind slipped as he tried to process what he just heard. 'I'm dead? But I don't remember anything. I didn't feel anything. Why am I in this place? Do I wait to go to Heaven or….' Colt could almost feel the sweat collect on his forehead that he wasn't sure was actually there. Raising his hands in front of his face but still only seeing empty space that was like a shadow.
"As I said, you were destroyed." The voice stated interrupting Colt's thoughts. "However, you are not dead. Just…waiting. You will not go to 'Heaven' as you call it."
'Oh God, I'm going to Hell.' Colt began to shudder as his thoughts spiraled, wishing he had done more good things like his mother taught him when he was young.
"You will not go to Hell." The voice droned
"You are being transferred soon. Just wait patiently."
"Wait, can you read my mind!? Who are you? God? What do you mean, 'transferred'?" Colt began to feel like his mind was melting as he was flooded with several thought streams even though he tried everything in his power to not think of anything.
"I am not the 'God' you are referring to, but I am an existence that would be deemed as a god in your world. I am The Sender." The voice replied again with a hint of pride when stating it's name. "I can read your thoughts and sense your emotions. Please remain calm while you wait to be transferred. High emotional levels can be detrimental to the results of the transfer. "
As it would for anyone, this only further caused Colt to lose his composure. "What does that mean? And where am I going? How can I stay calm when you say things like that?!"
"It means your transfer may fail due to a heart attack or maybe cause you to become simple minded in your new body. The process is difficult to begin with and I can only perform this act once every thousand years." The voice stated as though it were telling the weather report. "I am directed from another existence above me as to where you will go."
Colt didn't know what to feel. Still in shock from knowing he was now dead, but not dead? Is this like reincarnation? Or is it where there is another me in a different dimension like in those comic books?
As he thought of all the different possibilities the voice suddenly spoke, "Your transfer has been approved, thank you for waiting."
Before he could respond, a blinding light flooded Colt's vision that made him yell in surprise and fear. He slowly started to feel his surroundings as well as see them. He was staring straight into the sky lying on his back. Looking over he saw endless grass blowing like waves in an ocean.
He stood up slowly since his head was still spinning from the transfer he had just experienced. He began walking towards the only tree around which seemed to be a few hundred yards away trying to find relief from the blinding rays of sunlight until he could gather his thoughts and try to figure out just what to do.
He stumbled along awkwardly as he felt that his legs were different from before. Looking down, the ground seemed further away.
Suddenly he noticed the muscles in this legs and arms that were extremely developed compared to his old body. There was a perfect golden tan across his chest and arms. No scars to be seen that he used to have from his days of being beaten and pushed around by his fellow students and neighbors.
'I look perfect' he thought as he flexed and admired his new flawless physique. He tried to start running after feeling that he had started to finally get used to the new dimensions of his limbs.
After no more than ten steps, he tripped over what he assumed to be his own feet and rolled across the grassland a few times before coming to a stop.
'We'll that would have been embarrassing' Colt thought as he started to rise once again. Then he heard a soft thud behind him.
'What was that?' He thought as he turned to look, still bent over on one knee. What he saw made him fall right back down and scream in terror. "Holy shit!" Two yellow eyes pierced into his skull knocking him right back down to the ground with fear.
