Chapter 1 - The College Experience

"When you're in Chicago, you're home. Come explore famed restaurants, world-class museums, a jaw-dropping waterfront, groundbreaking music, award-winning theatres, and iconic architecture by legendary architects, and discover a blend of big-city culture, urban adventure, and Midwestern hospitality, all within 77 vibrant neighborhoods that are the heart and soul of Chicago". A man in a black suit on the television set spoke in a joyful tone, pointing out images of different restaurants, tourist attractions, and other places in the city of Chicago with his finger.

A child sat in front of the television, holding a screwdriver to a metal cube that was in his hand, and twisting out the screws in the cube. Staring boringly at the cube the child kept tinkering with the cube until a plate of food fell off, and he continued to tinker with the cube. Suddenly two hands were placed over the child's eyes, and he stopped twisting his screwdriver.

"Mom, I'm close to finishing up this project, can't I get 5 more minut- ". The child tried to finish, but the child's mom speaks up over him.

"Kitchen now Carter, I just finished making dinner, and you know how I feel about you tinkering for so long and being late to dinner". A blonde woman with curly hair, wearing blue jeans and a white shirt with blue eyes says, motions Carter into the kitchen with slight shoves.

Carter sighs, but reluctantly puts down both the screwdriver and the cube while being pushed and begins to walk on his own to the kitchen, taking one final look back to the TV screen. The man in the black suit is continuing to point and talk about the different places in Chicago, but his voice grows further and further as Isaac gets closer to the kitchen.

Carter sits down at the table and stares at the two plates of food on the table with surprise. They were his favorite meals, but that's what was confusing, his mom only cooked him his favorite meal when there was good news. Staring up at his mother with confusion clearly laced on his face, his mother only gives him a small grin.

"I've been accepted to work at the hospital in Chicago Carter"! Carter's mom says with excitement in her voice, barely containing all the joy in her figure as she is slightly bouncing on the balls of her feet.

Carter doesn't really react to the news but is happy for his mother, so he smiles, and once again stares at the television before asking his mother, "Hey Mom, is Chicago really as good as what the TV says"?

Carter's mom stops bouncing on her feet before a big smile appears on her face, before replying in a mischievous way, "It's that and much more". Laughing after finishing her sentence, she then begins to dig into the meal she made for dinner.

Carter also begins to eat the meal but finds himself once again staring at the television screen, watching for a few minutes, a small smile forms on his face and he goes back to eating.

*10 years later*

A bus comes and stops in front of a tall building, and a 6'1 male teen gets off the bus and walks and stands in front of the tall building carrying two bags. One across his chest and his back, while a suitcase is being rolled in his right hand. He has dark skin and sharp brown eyes. He is wearing black jeans with black combat boots on while wearing a green camo shirt. His muscles were easily viewable through the shirt sleeves and his toned abs' imprint could also be seen through the shirt. The man was attractive, to say the least, along the lines of a model's level of attractiveness. His short dreaded hair that slightly falls down his head blew in the wind softly, as he peered up at the tall apartment complex.

"So this is the place I will be staying at for 4 years". Carter says while viewing his surroundings with more detail.

Many people stared at him and whispered to the people next to them while not removing eye contact with his figure. Carter stood there not minding the stares, as it wasn't his first time feeling a bunch of stares aimed at him. A minute passes by, and a figure is seen walking directly towards Carter.

Staring at the girl making her way towards him, Carter notices that she has stomach-length curly black hair, light brown eyes, and is about 5'4 in height. She is wearing a pair of white shoes, blue jeans, and a light tan sweatshirt that contrasted with her skin that read the words Residence Advisor.

"Hi, are you Carter"? She asks once she is standing in front of Carter, holding a small clipboard

"That would be me". Carter replies shortly, while slightly adverting his eyes from her figure, trying not to stare at her as much as possible. Despite what others might think, Carter was very

The girl doesn't react at all to Carter's answer but stares at him noticing how he is purposely averting his gaze from her, smiling with a mischievous grin, suddenly gets closer to Carter and continues to just stare at him.

Carter buckles under the stress and lets out a fake cough before stepping back and saying, "I haven't gotten your name yet".

The girl reacts in surprise but then introduces herself to Carter.

"Hi Carter, I'm the residence advisor for your floor Emily. Emily Bourcier".

Emily extends out her hand with a big smile on her face, expecting Carter to shake her hand, but he only walks past her straight towards the entrance to the apartment complex. The people staring at the spectacle, open their mouths in shock.

"Did he just reject a handshake from Emily"? A guy asks the person next to him as if declining the handshake was such a strange thing to do

"Emily is surely going to find trouble with him now, how unfortunate, he is attractive". One girl says while shaking her head in disappointment.

Emily stands there with an incredulous look on her face, an extremely shocked look still plastered on her face, but quickly morphs back into a neutral face and follows Carter into the building, staring slight daggers at his back.

Emily leads Carter all throughout the building, showing off the market, the free rooms, and all the amenities available at the apartment complex, before finally leading him to his apartment room. Stopping at the room's front door, Emily takes out keys from her pocket, holding them towards Carter.

"This will be the end of our tour Carter, this is the key to your apartment room, and if you have any further questions, you can come to find me at the room at the end of this corridor. Just make sure you stick to the times that are also on the door of my available times". Emily says before proceeding to walk down towards her room.

Carter looks down at the key in his hand, before inserting the key into the door and quickly closing the door behind him. He leaned on the wall before slowly falling to the ground, letting out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding.

Suddenly the phone in his pocket begins to ring, and the caller ID displays "Mom". Seeing that it was his mother calling him, he quickly answered, and waited to hear her voice on the phone.

"Carter sweetie, how are you doing? Did you make it to the apartment complex okay? I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to go with you, the hospital has had an influx of patients recently and-". Carter's mother was rambling before Carter quickly cut in.

"Mom, I'm fine, you didn't need to come anyway, I'm already an adult now, you should worry less about me".

"Carter, you know that I'm going to worry regardless of what you say right? It's a mother's duty to be worried".

Carter only rolls his eyes at the comment and slightly smiles. His mother had to leave him home alone for her job at the hospital all those years ago, and Carter was still fine, cooking meals for himself, and taking care of the household duties. Granted he never complained because it allowed him to tinker to his heart's content without his mom stopping him.

"Mom, I'm truly fine, go back to work, I wouldn't want you to be getting in trouble"

"Hmph, I would love them to try to find a problem with their best nur- WHERE IS THE DAMN NURSE WITH THE ORGAN FOR THE PATIENT"! As Carter hears the scream over the phone, the phone call quickly hangs up, and he is left to the silence of his own thoughts and new apartment.

Carter only shakes his head, as it wasn't the first time his mother has seemingly gotten into trouble for doing something that is if not anything, very questionable. It is truly a wonder how she still has a job at the hospital.

Carter looks up and finally takes notice of the apartment he is in. The room is very clean, and while the apartment itself looked small, it was nice and cozy, having multiple plants in certain corners and a green and black color scheme that heightened the aesthetic appeal of the apartment room. Carter takes a look at the entirety of the apartment, finding everything to his liking before opening up an empty room with a made twin-size bed. Unloading all his personal belongings into the room, Carter goes and sits down on the couch in the apartment in front of the television.

Quickly scanning through channels, he suddenly comes across a tv channel showing off...his face?

"Carter, a genius child who has won multiple engineering contests is a once in a lifetime pursuer of all things innovative, going as far as to compete in competition from a young age, to winning state and even national competitions that he has entered. Right now we have a teacher from his high school he has graduated from who taught engineering to the members of the school. Mr. Richard, what do you have to say about the genius student who you used to teach"? The reporter asks a teacher whose head was shiny enough to reflect light from the dome of his head, wearing glasses, wearing a red shirt, and blue jeans. The teacher had a gut so large his shirt couldn't cover the entirety of his shirt.

"Why of course I will talk about my most useless student". The teacher said while pushing his glasses up in a dignified matter. The retort from the teacher actually almost causes the reporter to fall over from the shock of what came out of Mr. Richard's mouth.

"Surely you jest right"? The reporter asks in an almost hushed tone, but clearly still audible to those watching.

"Of course not, everyone knows that I raised that boy in engineering knowledge myself. The only reason he has gotten as far as he has is because of my teaching of the course. I raised him up from an early age and imparted my knowledge of engineering to him and reinforced the practice to his very bones". Nodding to himself, Mr. Richard gives a confident smirk to the reporter who is only slightly confused before putting on his best smile.

"Wow, that is amazing Mr. Richard, I'm sure Carter is more than grateful for your tutelage".

In the apartment, Carter has a dangerous glint in his eyes, like he wants to absolutely murder something. Soon a loud scream can be heard from within the apartment and from people on the same floor

"THAT LYING FAT ASS"!!!
