~Sanvi's POV~
Rishabh was already standing in front of the school gate when I arrived there. I took my helmet off before putting the scooty on stand and walking up to him.
He was leaning against his motorbike with his hands in his pockets, staring at me while I pulled the key out of the ignition. He just so happened to be talking to Sanaya who turned around and gave me a fake smile.
We were in our casuals as the school was in vacation and we were not required to wear our uniforms during the Championship practice. I thanked Father for that because it would have been awful to practice for any of the physical tasks (if chosen by us, or course) wearing that heavy skirt all day around.
"Hey..." I was greeted by a normally stoic Rathore who apparently HAD to look very attractive for no particular reason in a white shirt with sleeves rolled up to the elbow tucked carelessly in his dark blue Levis.
He gave me a one-over look before nonchalantly turning to talk to Sanaya. His little perverse text earlier in the morning immediately crossed my mind for some reason and I could feel the warmth rise up my neck.
"Hey, Sanaya." I stood beside him, blatantly ignoring his greeting, smiled back at Sanaya.
She was quite short and stood at my shoulder against my 5'5" height. I would have almost called her cute if I hadn't already known her muy caliente personality. She wearing a tiny, almost a tutu-ish skirt and a pink top, looking as adorable as a pink bunny.
"Hey... So, Rishabh was telling me that you guys are together?" She pulled her brows up at me and I almost choked on my own saliva.
My eyes widened and I whipped my head towards Rishabh who immediately turned his head up to look at the sky with no care in the world.
"Wha...what do you mean?" I looked at her in confusion while she chewed on a gum, rolling her eyes at my wimpy response.
"Ah, of course not in that way. In the Championship? You guys are teaming up, right?" I heaved a sigh before turning to Rishabh with a 'I will murder you' look.
He simply shrugged.
"Well, yeah. That we are." I could hear Rishabh snickering beside me.
Yeah, I was going to wrench all the giggles out of him later.
Sanaya laughed out loud all of a sudden, startling us instantly.
"Honestly, after your hysteric outburst on Aakash yesterday, we thought that you'd drop out of the Championship. Veronica was almost in tears saying how she should have paired up with you otherwise none of this would have happened."
Aw, Veronica was a sweetheart as always.
But my heart dropped at the mention of the little outburst.
I WAS NOT HYSTERIC!
Sanaya continued.
"She was also wailing about how you might have lost your mind, defending your arch nemesis like that..." I cut her in before she could spill the beans in front of Rishabh who was intently listening to the conversation.
"Aahh. Sanaya, who are you pairing up with?" She twisted her lips at being interrupted by me but answered nonetheless.
Just the typical gossip queen, Sanaya Dutta.
"Dhruv came up to me the other night, pestering me to team up with him. Apparently he wasn't really serious about the Championship and just wanted to have fun. I was like... Yeah, I wanted to have fun too. We'd be staying at a different school for almost a week, might as well enjoy myself. So, I gave into his proposal."
I could hear Rishabh scoffing alongwith me at the absurd story. Yeah, we all saw how she wore Dhruv down by literally clinging onto him.
"But, you guys together, huh?" She narrowed her eyes, turning the topic back on us.
I knew she wanted to add an 'unbelievable' at the end of that sentence. Anyone would have. Rishabh and I were not particularly infamous for our amiability.
"Yeah, us. We all know how the school cannot trust any of you buffoons to win us this Cup. Sanvi and I are on the same page about this. Moreover, Father specifically asked us to pair together for this reason."
I cringed at Rishabh's rude remark and immediately turned to Sanaya with an apologetic look. She grimaced at Rishabh's words, flaring her nose in anger.
"No, no. It was just more of a lack of choice for Rishabh and I to pair up after everyone had already chosen their partners. Don't listen to him. We're all in this together." I swayed my hands in front of her, attempting to pacify the situation. She rolled her eyes obnoxiously.
"Huh, not everyone wants to be involved in this, Rishabh. Most of us were compelled to be in it because the school needed more people. It's not a problem if you don't think we're 'worthy' enough to be here because honestly, no one cares about this like you two geeks do."
Saying so, she stomped on the ground, flung her ponytail at my face and strutted out inside the campus.
"Oof..." I heard Rishabh sound out the impact mockingly.
I sighed while scratching my nose and turned back to look at Rishabh who rolled his eyes at my vexed face.
"Did you HAVE to be this condescending? We're all going to be together in a team, for fuck's sake! Be mature, Rathore!" I shook my head in exasperation at his childish antics.
"She started it by being all sniffy about us being together! Why can't we be together?" I groaned at his whining.
"STOP SAYING WE'RE TOGETHER! WE'RE NOT TOGETHER!" My voice rose in frustration.
His hands snaked around my waist and he pulled me against his frame, taking me by surprise. I gasped.
"Are you sure about that?" He questioned in a husky tone. I was taken aback by the sudden turn in his demeanor.
"What...yes! Yes, I am sure." My pitch was off the roof as my palms wrestled against his taut chest.
He let me go abruptly, making me stumble back a few steps.
"Okiee." He nodded with a straight face before signalling me to follow him inside the campus.
I shook my head to and fro in frustration.
What the hell was wrong with this guy?
