Chapter 2 - Don’t Covet What Is Not Yours

They were engaged for a long time, yet John had never allowed her to stay the night.

John had lost his appetite. He cast a glance at Sherri before he stood up and went to his study.

Sherri secretly rejoiced that he had not replied. 'Does his silence amount to acquiescence?'

A gloating expression appeared on her face as she went to the room upstairs to take a bath.

The huge chandelier in the bathroom made the room as bright as day. The imported jacuzzi was already filled with water to an appropriate temperature.

The sight of the warm and soothing water put her in an excellent mood.

Sherri looked down at her clothes before she turned and went to the room next to hers.

"Kathy, are you in there?" Sherri knocked on the door.

Kathleen was doing her homework. When she opened the door and saw Sherri, she said indifferently, "Can I help you?"

"I'm staying over tonight, but I didn't bring my pajamas. Can I borrow one of yours?"

Upon hearing her tender voice, Kathleen slid her a glance before taking out her clean pair of pajamas from the wardrobe and passed them to her.

"Thanks, Kathy! You're the best!" Sherri gave her a big grin as she took the pajamas from her. She then turned and went to the bathroom.

John was dealing with his business affairs in the study.

All of a sudden, the door opened. A soft body jumped into his arms and wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

His heart skipped a beat when a familiar scent wafted into his nose. However, he was taken by surprise when he saw that the girl lying in his arms was actually Sherri. He furrowed his brows as he frowned. "You're still here?"

"Didn't you tell me to stay?" Sherri bit her lips and looked up at him seductively. "I want to stay and keep you company!"

"I didn't ask you to stay!" John pushed her away.

His face darkened abruptly when he saw the pajamas she was wearing. "Where did you get the pajamas?"

"From Kathleen!" Sherri said with an ingratiation expression on her face. "She was delighted when I told her I'm staying over tonight, so she gave me her pajamas!"

"Is that so?" John wore a smile, but his eyes were icy cold to the extreme.

"You have exactly three minutes to get out of my house."

Sherri was stunned. "Why, John?"

"Did you not hear me? I'm telling you to get out!"

Sherri stared at the man before her. They had been engaged for a long time, but his attitude toward her never changed. He had always treated her with such a cold and heartless attitude.

Even though it was a marriage of convenience, she was genuinely in love with the man, so much so that she would risk everything for him and do as he said.

She did not dare to disobey him, so she said, "Fine, I'll go!"

"Wait!"

Sherri stopped her pace and looked back at him in anticipation.

He looked stunning under the glow of the night, but the words coming out of his mouth were as cold as the winter snow. "Take off the pajamas you're wearing!"

Sherri's smile froze on her face. She gritted her teeth and said, "Fine! What's so great about these pajamas!"

She changed into her own clothes fretfully and handed the pajamas to John, who then glanced at her and warned, "Don't covet what is not yours!"

Sherri's heart was aching with rage, but she dared not utter another word. She snorted coldly and left Lambert's residence.

Meanwhile, Kathleen had just finished her homework in her room and was about to get some rest. Suddenly, she heard a loud bang as her door was slammed open. John showed up in her room, and his handsome face was cold as ice.

Kathleen was shocked. "Young Master?"

John was holding the silky pink pajamas in his hand so tightly that his fingers were white. Then, he tossed the pajamas to Kathleen. "Why did you give the pajamas to Sherri?"

His deep voice was ice-cold, uncontrollable anger laced in his voice.

John had bought the pajamas during his business trip and given them to Kathleen as a gift.

He could not believe she just simply gave it away to the other woman.

Kathleen's face remained expressionless as the pink pajamas fluttered to the floor in front of her. "Sherri is your fiancée, and she'll become the female owner of this family in the future. Everything here belongs to her, let alone the pajamas. What's the big deal?"

John stared deeply into her eyes, and moments later, a smile played on his lips. The smile he gave her was dazzling, but his next move was ruthless and brutal.

Terrible wrath gathered in his dark eyes as he placed his hand to Kathleen's neck and choked her; the blue veins on his forehead were protruding grotesquely. "The reason I brought you home is to make you my slave, not for you to anger me!"

His hands were strong. When he gradually tightened his big hand around her throat, and Kathleen found it harder and harder to breathe.

His dark eyes were gleaming with uncontrollable rage, and he looked like a ferocious, horrifying beast that had gone mad.

Kathleen's face had turned pale as she said with great difficulty, "Young Master… let me go."

"Let you go? Did it hurt a lot?" John stared profoundly into her eyes, making no attempts to disguise the hatred in his eyes. "Compared to the pain I suffered back then, this is not even one in ten thousand of the pain inflicted by your father."

He violently tossed her aside. Kathleen's face was all red as she strived to breathe in the fresh air.

She slowly rose to her feet, her back as straight as an arrow. She had not said anything to defend herself after all.

After watching her for a while, John gnashed his teeth and yelled, "Say something! Why aren't you saying anything? Put on the pajamas right now and kneel outside the house! You're not to get up without my permission!"
