Once she stood in front of her dorm's room, she planned on taking out the keys from within her pants' pockets to open it, but instead she opted to just twisting the door handle to see if it was unlocked. And, surprisingly, it was.
She entered the dorm and in that one second after closing the door, she realized something that made her extremely awkward.
"You've got to be kidding me." She'd completely forgotten about one fact: the fact that the girl that was mad at her, Emilia Elna, was in fact her roommate. She hadn't gotten the chance to meet her that morning because she'd left way before she could've woken up.
Elna also realized this as soon as she saw her and spoke her first words to Kaede outside of school: "I'm not talking to you."
"I'm assuming that's your bed, then."
"No shit."
"Wow, okay then."
Even though she usually responded normally, if something angered or annoyed Kaede, she would start saying utter nonsense without thinking. She attempted to not say anything to Elna; she just wanted to shower.
"I'm going to take a shower."
"I don't care."
A few minutes later after organizing her side of the room, that being the one closest to the window, she entered the bathroom, locked the door behind her, and readied the shower.
She started by taking off her clothing and once a few minutes passed, she entered the shower itself.
There she stood, wetting her hair, and thinking about how the day had been…and about how the one person that hates her ended up being her roommate.
"How the hell did I forget that Elna was supposed to be my roommate? Oh well, I guess there was too much on my mind today…"
As the hot water traveled from the top of her body to the bottom, she washed herself with the soap and sponge that the school had provided them with.
"It really was useless buying amenities, wasn't it, brother?" She laughed at herself. If only they'd known that the academy would supply them with amenities, they wouldn't have gone out of their way to buy any themselves.
Regardless, as she stood in the bath, she closed her eyes and many thought entered her head.
Who would've thought that we'd actually end out in a magic school? Was her first thought, being followed by Why exactly does brother have a different uniform?
She had many other thoughts, but those were the two that stood out the most.
Even though a day had already passed, she still couldn't believe it. They'd enrolled not only in a magic school, but the highest ranked of them. What a life, right?
She finished showering and closed the valve, the water stopping.
She grabbed the nearest towel, fully dried herself, and put on her sleeping clothes, consisting of light purple shorts and a plain white shirt. She then proceeded to brush her teeth for 2 minutes or so.
Once she was done, she slowly opened the door and quietly exited in the case that Elna was sleeping. Her intuition was indeed right, as she was currently sleeping in her respective bed.
I'm sorry, she thought as she looked at her. She slowly walked towards her bed and sat down.
As she sat down on her bed and looked at the outside view, she remembered something. "Oh, right…Grandfather did give me those."
She remembered the papers her grandfather had given her. She went to her backpack, took out the container and opened it, revealing the papers within.
Just as he'd said, it was a collection of spells for Crimson Magic users. Some were spells that Kaede had seen before, and some were completely new to her.
"Crimson Magic really does have a wide range of spells, doesn't it?" She muttered as she read through the papers.
The first paper was for an unnamed Cloaking Spell, a type of spell that affected the entire body at once. It was one that would cover you with blood red energy, making you impervious to 90% of attacks.
That sounds extremely useful! Kaede switched to thinking to avoid the small chance of waking Elna up, therefore making her even angrier.
The second spell was something that she'd never seen before. A spell called "Bloom of Truth." It was a spell that would reveal the truth behind something specific she'd thought of as she casted the spell. However, it heaved a heavy toll on the user, so it was meant to be used extremely carefully.
These spells are awesome! I got to learn them at some point!
However, the spell that caught the most of her attention was the following one. A spell named "Summon Armory."
Armory? No way…does he mean?!-
It did indeed mean what Kaede thought. Like Bloom of Truth, it caused the user to go through grave circumstances if overused, but it was too interesting to miss out.
"With this spell, you can summon any one object from the Makahoushi Armory?!" Can I really?
The Makahoushi Armory, known within the family as "The Shrine", was a special room owned by the family in which resided a various number of mysterious artifacts that they'd somehow collected over the years in order to keep safe from whichever threats that exists in either side of the world.
You really want us to be safe, don't you, Grandfather? As the thought this, her lips curled up into a smile.
She couldn't believe that their grandfather had given her these spells.
Oh, right! Shu can use our magic now, even if it's temporary! I should give these to him as well so he can learn them!
There were many other papers she glanced at, but these 3 stood out above the others.
She put the papers back in the container and the container in her backpack. She then grabbed her phone and found her grandfather's contact.
The phone rang until someone picked up on the other side.
"Hello?" It was the voice of their grandfather.
"Hey, Grandfather." Kaede replied.
"Everything okay over there?"
"Oh yeah, everything's perfect. I just wanted to call you. You know, to know how you're doing and stuff."
"Oh, thanks hehe. Yeah, I'm doing fine. I'm about sleep here, so I'm glad you called."
"Of course!"
"Oh, and how's Shu doing?"
"He's doing fine. He's in his dorm room right now. Probably about to sleep or something."
"I see. Well, in which case, thank you for calling me. I'm going to sleep, so goodnight."
"Yeah. Goodnight. Sweet dreams!"
"Thanks, you too. Love you!"
"Love you too, Grandfather!"
And so, her grandfather hung up.
I should go to sleep now…
And so, she put her phone on her bedside, and after thinking of the same thoughts for a few minutes with her eyes close, went to sleep.
