After a few minutes of walking, Shu reached his first class's room, that being Magic History. The classroom was on the current building's second floor, so of course, he had to walk a bit longer than before when he made his way to his homeroom.
The classroom itself looked very similar to his homeroom's, except it was slightly bigger and the desks were also slightly wider and bigger.
He took the first seat he found, that being the desk on the final row, being the closest to the entrance.
He looked around and waited for class to start, glancing at the bag he brought that only contained his terminal out of boredom.
He was still thinking about why he was the only one that was wearing the different uniform. Sure, he thought it looked cool, but why was he wearing it? Was there any specific reason?
What if I'm overthinking everything…? While he rested his head on his right hand, looking out his closest window in the process, he started thinking about the same topic once again.
Was he really overthinking everything?
Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. Who knows?
As he looked out the window, he heard a sound coming from his right, albeit slightly far away from his seat.
From the other door used to enter the classroom, he saw a person walk in, wearing a pair of blue jeans and a long-sleeved white shirt. She wore black, rectangular glasses and her very light orange hair was clipped up with a black clip. She looked young for a teacher, and she was also pretty cute. This was something that Shu thought of while still thinking of his other currently issue at the same time.
"Good morning, class!" She said to everyone as she walked onto the podium in front of the classroom. Before that, though, she put all the books she was holding onto the desk on the left of the podium (left from Shu's point of view, at least.)
She walked towards the podium and stood being it.
"Today marks the beginning of a new year in the Academy, and I hope that all of you have a great one!"
Everyone was looking at the teacher, focused on her words.
"My name is Sera Ashley. Feel free to call me either "Sera" or "Ms. Ashley", I don't mind. Starting today, I will be your Magic History teacher for the year! It's a pleasure to meet you all!" she said with a big smile on her face.
She took her left hand and used her index and middle fingers to adjust the position of her glasses that slightly fell forward.
"Now, I'm going to take attendance. Just say your name when I call you."
Then, she started calling everyone's name.
Many names were mentioned (obviously), although Shu didn't pay mind to that. Still thinking about the uniform "issue", it was safe to say that he was distracted.
"-kahoushi" Shu heard a faint voice on the back of his head but didn't pay mind to it…until he heard what the voice truly said.
"Shu Makahoushi." He heard a female voice call.
He looked up and realized that it was Ms. Ashley calling him because of attendance.
"Here!" He said as he raised his arm out of nowhere. Some of his classmates looked at him with a strange face because his gesture and response were extremely sudden and sort of loud. Some found it funny though, making him feel uncomfortable, putting his arm down and feeling embarrassed.
Then he noticed that some people continued to stare at him for some reason. He assumed that it was the one thing he was worried about, but he attempted his best to ignore it.
A few minutes later, everyone's name was called. Once she finished, Ms. Ashley started speaking.
"Alright, everyone. Once again, good morning to all of you! As I mentioned, I'll be your Magic History teacher for the year, so I hope we can all get to know each other very well!"
She paused and took a breath, then continued speaking.
"Before we begin the actual class," she said standing behind the podium, "can any of you say a basic summary on the history of our world? I want to know that the most basic basis of our history is known by all of you."
For a few seconds, no words came out of anyone, nor did anyone move a muscle.
Out of nowhere, though, someone stood up and raised their right hand.
"I'll do it." From the left side of the room, a boy with short, black hair raised his hand and volunteered to say something.
"Thank you, Mr…."
"Park. Jun-san Park." The boy spoke.
"Right. Sorry, I'm not the greatest person when it comes to names." She said as the let out a repricating smile. "Now tell us: what do you know about the history of our world?"
The boy stood up straight and started to speak.
"Well, at first, the world was unified. Humans without mana and humans with mana, AKA mages, lived together in peace. They both had a good relationship with each other. However, one day, there was a conflict between them. A full out war broke out between the two; a war that can also be considered one between the powers of magic and technology. The mages had their advanced magical abilities, while the humans without mana possessed newfangled technology, the likes of which had never been seen before in our history. However, both powers agreed to stop this war on 1 condition: by dividing the world into 2 different sides: the Normal Side, and the Magic Side."
"Thank you very much, Mr. Park!" Ms. Ashley paused, clapped her hands together and smiled, giving him her thanks, Park sitting down in the process while slightly blushing, himself smiling at the teacher's act.
"Of course, there's a handful of other details that we should mention, such as how some mages stayed in the Normal Side and/or illegally passed it, and how some humans did the same, except they reached the Magic Side, which explain the reason as to why some of the technology in our side is so advanced, and how there's traces of magic in the other side."
Shu was listening to this, and of course he knew about this. He loved reading about magic as a hobby, not to mention that he fought the small number of mages in the other side as a member of the SR alongside his sister. Although, he was still interested in listening to all of this; it never hurts to refresh your head on topics you already know about.
"But enough about that. I think it's officially time to begin the class and learn about the history of magic…from the beginning."
As she said this, she went towards her desk and opened one of its drawers, pulling out some sort of small, black remote in the process. She pointed it towards the ceiling, causing a machine to appear out of nowhere on the spot she'd pointed at.
After a bit, a slight whirring sound was heard from the machine, and from the front area of it, a white light appeared from within it, landing on the green board on the front of the classroom. Once the light appeared on said board, a sort of slide appeared, titled "Magic History: The Beginning", accompanied by a picture under it that illustrated a blue crest-looking symbol.
Then, Ms. Ashley spoke. "This is a presentation I created for the first part of the class. Now, we'll be discussing this first part of history for the next few weeks, so please, even if you know this, pay attention."
Ms. Ashley had some sort of blue device on her hand, and she clicked it once, causing the slice to change. As she did so, she walked to the classroom's closed door and tapped the light switch, causing the lights within the room to turn off.
Shu, as his head rested on his right hand, glanced at the presentation currently being projected and noticed that he knew about the topic she was going to present.
In this slide, there was a certain image he'd seen before. On the image, there were 2 humans (a boy ang a girl), both around the age of 15 Shu assumed, that looked very similar. The boy had short hair and the girl long, both of which were a color similar to that of royal blue. They were both the same height, and they were posing back-to-back, looking at whatever "took" their picture.
"Would anyone like to tell me who these 2 are?" The teacher asked.
After she did, Shu raised his hand.
"Yes, um…"
"Shu." He spoke. "Shu Makahoushi."
"Ah, thanks. So, Mr. Makahoushi, who are these 2 individuals?"
Shu stood up from his deck and then started: "Those are the Divine Twins, a pair of fraternal twins born many years ago during the world's Medieval period. They are known to many as the "Progenitors of Magic", as they were the first ones capable of using such supernatural abilities."
"Great! Thank you. Now, the reason this is very important is not only because they were the first beings to use magic, but also because-" she was cut off.
"Because as they kept using their magic, they slowly started to lose more and more of their magical abilities. These lost abilities and the mana from them started making their way to other beings, which is the reason as to why people are capable of using magic now."
"Oh. Well, thanks, Mr. Makahoushi. You can sit down now-"
"Which, if you think about it, it's pretty interesting because how and why exactly did their mana spread to other beings? As far as I recall, there isn't a particular reason or theory as
"Eh?" Shu realized what he'd done. He'd said the second half of his statement without thinking. Due to this, he felt a slight feeling of embarrassment within him, even slightly blushing due to it.
His fellow classmates gave him some weird glares. Some of them laughing to themselves (at least, that's what it looked like to him), and others actually looked impressed with what he'd said. And some of them were also looking at his strange trench coat uniform.
Sitting back down, he attempted to change the thinking subject within his head and pay attention to the class itself.
And so, he kind of did. Sure, the main issue at hand was still circulating around his thoughts, but he just paid attention to Ms. Ashley's presentation.
Time felt as if it went by incredibly fast because out of nowhere, a very pleasing sound, reminiscent of the one they heard in the morning just before class, was heard around the entire classroom.
"Oh, looks like that's the first bell of the day! Well, class, it was a pleasure getting to know all of you, and I'll see you tomorrow. You may all leave the classroom. Have a good day!"
As soon as Ms. Ashley said her goodbyes, everyone got up their respective desks and left the classroom.
Shu looked at his schedule. His next class was Magic Item Creation, and he was curious as to what the class had to offer.
However, let's take a break from what Shu's up to and see what's going on in Kaede's day, especially her second class.
