Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Getting To Know An Ally

Naomi's P.O.V

"What do you think Sammy wants to talk to us about," I asked as I followed Zoë deeper into the bunker as I felt my oldest sisters presence busy telling her girlfriend where to go

I watched Zoë's shoulders shrug as we weaved through the tunnels of my father's favorite place in the camp. "Don't know," she began, "but we're going to find out soon," she finished just as I felt a pull in my gut as we rounded a corner

"That you are," Sammy said from our left making us jump

I looked at her to see that she was in a form similar to what I saw her and the other woman in not too long ago but with more detail and color than last time. "Did you do that Naomi," Zoë asked me and I shook my head

"I think she did it," I began, "I just felt a pull in my gut as we rounded the corner."

Sammy chuckled, "Yes, I did," she began, "my power is sort of in a reserve in your body. I can use it as my own or transfer it to you if you are running low."

"So that's why I'm feeling that," Zoë asked my older sister causing me to arch an eyebrow

Sammy laughed, "Zoë and I can control our powers," she began, "our grandfather blessed her with control over my flame, and in turn, she has control over my winds while I have control over her water."

"Would that mean I would have control over her powers to a point," I asked as the two partners looked at each other

"It would make sense," Sammy muttered

"Considering the link," I added and she nodded, "so that means that you're not drawing on my power for this?"

Sammy nodded, "Neither Percy or any of Zoë's siblings will have to imagine a mist form of me. I think that would be something to keep in mind in case one of you or Bianca are trapped inside someone's head."

I chuckled as Zoë snorted, "I wouldn't put it past any of our parents' enemies for that," she said. "So, what did you lead us here for?"

Sammy's smile faded before she looked around, "As much as I love your mother and Percy," she began, "I want you to train my sister as she is similar to me."

I furrowed my brow, "What do you mean I am similar to you?"

Sammy glanced at me and I could see fear and worry in her eyes, as well as one other feeling that I think, was more for me than the fact that she wasn't alive.

She held sorrow in her eyes, "I know why you choose ranged attacks," she began, "you've been in a place where a gun was shoved in your hands. You know how to fight but something in your past did hurt you so bad that you don't want to take that chance again."

I stiffened, "How would you know about that," I grumbled as I felt her hand on my shoulder, it felt real and warm compared to how it felt a moment ago

"Because I was in your position but only as a scribe," she began, "the leader was my boyfriend. I was forced into just as many situations involving combat as you were. Don't be afraid to tell anybody here," she paused, "I don't know if they are like the gang I was in but if they are," she paused once more before looking at Zoë. "You'll have a family looking out for you and protecting you," she sighed, "you may not like close combat fighting from that but you will have to get used to it again. Zoë knows how I'm comfortable with fighting, she will work better with you than Annabeth or Percy. They will understand when you open up, they will not push you. Nobody will force you to tell them why you aren't comfortable doing something. Take your time to trust these people."

I bit my lip, "I want proof," I began as I looked at my feet, "I need to know how you can associate with what I've been through. You've looked at some of my memories like an open book and I welcome you to continue but please show me your proof."

I looked at Sammy who's eyes held worry and sorrow before she bit her lip and nodded. "Zo," she began in a whisper

"Yes?"

"You may be seeing these memories as well," she began, "this will be the first time you see these, are you ready?"

I looked to see the eldest Jackson nodding, "I'm ready, Sams," she said as she put a hand on my older sister's shoulder, "and I am here."

Sammy nodded before looking into my eyes and I gasped

I watched her being forced to write death threats to innocent people

Watching people dying

Being beaten for denying others

Loyalty Checks

I felt the kick as she shot two people before freezing and dropping the gun

I watched as she was dragged from her home and beaten for having remorse for it

She was beaten for so much but she just kept fighting back

She kept fighting for her life

Even when a bullet was lodged in her chest she ran and she fought as if she wasn't bleeding out

I watched her cauterize the wound after taking the bullet out before dad took her home for her mortal father to patch her up

I watched as she finally left that hellhole before being shot in the back during a school fire

"That was you saving those people," I whispered, "you were Samantha Edwards."

Sammy nodded as Zoë walked away the anger coming from her in waves, "I was," she began, "I don't know what position you held but I promise that Zoë will keep whatever you want a secret as I did."

"You're making me want to strangle E-Team even more," Zoë muttered causing my eyes to widen

"We were in the same gang," I began, "but in different corners of America."

Sammy pressed her lips into a line, "Please don't tell me you were put into the same position I was."

I sighed and shook my head, "I was in the frontlines," I began, "they labeled me as their sniper considering my comfort with close combat and the fact that I almost died during it. I, fortunately, didn't see all of the people I killed face to face but I regret it, I never favored it when it came to killing innocent people."

"But when it came to people who wronged you it was different," Sammy asked as she bit her lip and I nodded. "I'm the same way," she whispered, "I haven't told anybody this but I have lashed out in anger at someone and killed them."

Silence fell between the three of us after she said that, "Before you defend yourself, Sams," Zoë began. "I will tell you that I am not mad because I am pretty sure it takes a lot out of you when you kill someone no matter how many times you may do it."

Sammy smiled before she widened her eyes, "Mom," she began as she looked into Zoë's eyes. "What she said is true," my eldest sister began, "I'm never a fan of taking someone's life but if they hurt me I am ruthless."

"Okay, Sammy," the voice of the woman from before said before turning her gaze to me. "Considering these two forgot to introduce me to you I will introduce myself," she smirked as I noticed the brown eyes that looked weird on Zoë. "My name is Calypso; I am your mother."

I froze, "You're," I began, "you're my," I froze again before fixing it, "our mother?"

Calypso grinned, "Yes," she answered, "I don't know if I can speak to you using the link that connects Sammy's consciousness to Zoë but we can give it a shot if you're up for it."

I furrowed my brow before nodding, jumping as I watched Zoë's eyes return to their normal color. "Is she dead," I asked as I looked between the two

I could hear a chuckle in the back of my head as my mother answered, 'No I am not. Our current enemy decided it was a grand idea to put the mothers of the heroes of Olympus into the eldest child's head. Sammy is the eldest of our family which means my conscience was in her head until she died.'

Zoë chuckled as my eyes widened even more, "For some reason her consciousness is transferred to me whenever Sammy dies. Annabeth's consciousness was in my head until I mistakenly put her conscience in her body without intending to."

I arched an eyebrow, "'Mistakenly,'" I repeated, "how do you mistakenly put your mother's conscience back into her head?"

Sammy chuckled as Zoë slunk back, clearly ashamed of her word choice, "Zoë was Rose in the mortal world," Sammy began, "that's how we know Renée and Pippa. She was teleported here after the attack at our school to heal quicker. She was resting in the infirmary right next to Annabeth's bed. I don't know how she did it but it worked and Annabeth was back."

"I pretty much imagined her conscience going into her like a mist form," Zoë began, "I wanted someone around and I imagined her there. I didn't know it would work until she wrapped her arms around me in a hug."

"That is pretty much what happened," a voice said from the hallway which Zoë and I came from.

"Mom," Zoë exclaimed, startled, "schist, I forgot you can see through my eyes. Sorry Sammy," she said with a faint smile as Sammy chuckled

"It's fine," my sister began, "I trust that you heard what I was asking Zoë to do?"

Annabeth nodded, "I heard your request," she began, "I just tuned out the why because I figured it was something personal to Naomi."

I bit my lip, "Sammy and I were in the same gang," I began, "just on different sides of America."

Annabeth nodded with a sigh, "Samantha," Annabeth said in a low growl once her gaze landed on my sister. "Please don't tell me that you're drawing on Naomi's power to do that?"

Sammy flinched, "I'm not, Annabeth," she began, "I can use my power to create a mist form of myself. I can also give Naomi some of my power in case she needs it."

Annabeth sighed before turning to me, "If you want to tell everyone you can but I'm pretty sure your father knows considering where he picked you up from."

I chuckled, "Terrible way for them to try and kill me," I muttered, "but I will tell them in time."

"Good," Zoë began, "We should rest and clear our heads because in a little bit we'll be taking a bath in one of the most painful rivers in the world."
