He awoke laying in the tall grass, the wind ruffled his medium brown hair as he stared at the clear blue sky. Like a gem untouched by man it reflected off his brown eyes as he took a deep breath in.
He couldn't hold back the tears that squeezed through his eyelids "I didn't make it" he sobbed, Axel recently reincarnated into this world a moment ago, the memories of the previous body already implanted in his mind but not the emotional attachments.
The body of a recent graduate of a local Highschool, one hopeful for the future but ultimately failed in gaining admission to any university due to his abysmal results, furthermore reborn in a world where those that failed to gain admission into a university were seen as less than trash, talk less about those that fail to graduate who are no more than slightly better second-rate citizens.
Axel both in previous life and current died due to the pandemic in his previous life, he thought he could recover due to his healthy lifestyle and young age but ultimately failed. Family and friends left behind, chances that he hoped for no longer attainable, the weight of it gripped his heart.
Axel the previous host of the body gained just enough aggregate marks to graduate highschool but failed to meet the minimum marks in the core subjects required for university admission.
At most his future prospects looked bleak, he'd be lucky enough to gain a job as a janitor.
He wept for a while as his body was hidden from pedestrians. The running water from the stream a few feet away masking his sobs.
Opening his eyes the evening sky greeted him, eventually his grieving heart reached an equilibrium. Eyes tired from tears he sat up, "at least I have a new chance in life". Getting up he thought about his current situation, Axel was adopted by a well meaning couple that graduated from a middle ranked college. They had a good job that managed to support Axel throughout his education, the least he could do was get admitted to a good university in order to repay them.
Looking at the smartwatch he saw multiple missed calls from his adopted parents, raising the watch towards his eye the scanner on the strap emitted a blue light that encircled his pupils, wisps of hardlight floated from the smartwatches surface eventually forming a hologram interface in front of him, the pale blue light illuminated his tired face.
Before he could react a sound resonated in his mind.
DING!
[Welcome to your new life host!]
Axel froze not sure on how to proceed.
