Chapter 114 - Trick-Or-Treating Tonight

Chapter 114: Trick-Or-Treating Tonight

The next day: At nightfall, there was a town.

An actual town. Not a small, nearly nonexistent village such as the witch's sanctuary, which was run by Bridget. No. This was something else. Here, there were normal people. Everyday, men and women walked in the streets of this actual town. And just like all the prominent towns and cities in the Halloween kingdom, known as: 'Samhain', all people who owned a home within this civilization had to fulfill the obligation to answer to trick-or-treaters. Not only being something they had to do once a year, but here, it was something they had to do every night. It was a rule. It was a law. Disguised kids, wearing all sorts of different costumes ranging from tons of different styles could be seen, walking around in the streets of this colorful town. Although, going trick-or-treating here wasn't something that only kids could do. It was a shared thing. Everyone could do it. Younger and older people.

The costumes that the kids and adults were wearing ranged from monsters, goblins and ghouls, to princesses, knights, and wizards and demons. They ranged from scary and frightening to adorable and gorgeous. There was something for everyone. However, since going trick-or-treating was something that people could do every night here, this had in effect removed some interest. Kids and adults still adored going trick-or-treating, but there was a point during which that was enough. Some people didn't go every night. Some of them only went a couple of times a week. Some of them only went one night a week. Some of them only went trick-or-treating one night a month. It truly depended on the personal interest of the different residents of this town and of the rest of the popular of Samhain as well. It varied from person to person. And eventually, as we got deeper and deeper into the night, by the time we made it to midnight, the witching hour, it was right about at the moment that the many trick-or-treaters began coming back to their homes. It was the end of the trick-or-treating night. Well, it was almost the end.

Two trick-or-treaters wearing black cloaks and hoods were seen appearing on the side of the street in town. One of the two trick-or-treaters was incredibly tall and bulky, while the other one was much shorter and skinnier. They had never been seen before. They didn't truly wear costumes. They were only black cloaks, therefore, hiding their identities. Yet, they were indeed trick-or-treaters, since they carried leather bags sowed in the shape of jack-o-lanterns. They were orange. But still preserve their brownish, leathery feel to them. It was obvious that those were their bags for trick-or-treating and gathering candy. The two cloaked and hooded figures desperately searched for a house that still had light visible from the interior. They were searching for a house that was still answering and taking trick-or-treaters at this time. Since it was sort of late, it took them some time to find one house, but they eventually did.

They found one!

It was a house at the end of a street. A couple of trees surrounded that one, lonely house. There was still a lot of light coming from the interior of it that could be seen through the windows. The windows were wide open as well. This house was open. Even at this late, witching hour. As all the other trick-or-treaters, who were wearing actual costumes, were getting to come back to their homes, the two cloaked and hooded figures slowly made their way to that home that was still 'opened'. They climbed on the front steps of the house. The shorter figure knocked at the door.

Knock! Knock!

They, then, waited. Silence. More waiting. Silence. Quickly growing tired of waiting, the second hooded figure, the tallest and more bulky one, knocked on the door as well.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

This trick-or-treater knocked much stronger on the door. It was much louder as well. A bit more waiting, and then, someone finally came to answer the door. The door was heard being unlocked from the inside and opened up: A man answered the two, hooded trick-or-treaters. Smiling at them. The man was slightly overweight and wore a buttoned shirt with skin-tight pants. He also wore a hat with a feather displayed on the side of it. Now, this wasn't a costume. Those were his actual clothes. Visibly happy to see two, additional trick-or-treaters, this late into the night, he nodded. The hooded figures stepped a bit closer to the entrance of the house and said the exact, same thing at the exact, same time…

"Trick-or-treat!" their voices melted into one, common one.

"Hello, you are sort of coming in at the last minute, I was just about to close up shop, but don't you worry, I am very much still open!" the man said to them, all happy he was receiving new visitors. "So, right… What is it going to be? Um… Let's see. I had quite a couple of other trick-or-treaters tonight, and um… I do remember saying: 'Treat', quite a lot actually… Yeah… And since I'm kind of running out of candy at this point and that you two are most-likely going to be my last trick-or-treaters of the night, I think I'm going to go with: 'Trick'. Yeah! It sounds much better to me! That's what I am going to go with!" The man smiled even more and finally give his final answer to them. He didn't go with a treat. The two trick-or-treaters weren't going to have candy here, at his house. Trick had been selected and this meant that the two cloaked and hooded figures were allowed to trick this man. That was how it worked.

"So, trick it is?" the shortest of the two trick-or-treaters said to the man. That hooded figure was obviously a woman. She had a light and sensual woman's voice.

"Yeah. That would be it. Hey, guys, I simply wanted to tell you that I like your costumes a lot. What are you supposed to be dressed as, exactly? Wizards? Ghosts? Necromancers? Something like that?" the man asked the two of them.

"I think you know what you have to do, now, right?" the tallest, hooded figure turned to the other trick-or-treater and told her. The voice of the tallest figure was deep.

He was a man.

"Yes. I know," she nodded.

"What? What's going on?" the man began becoming nervous.
