"it's been twelve years and you haven't changed, still cautious and doubting, calculated and divine, my dear daughter, Lyric hans," he said his voice tauntingly calm, I scoffed. As I closed the door, "you haven't changed either, still envious, and hungry for power..." I began, and I walked closer, "the flames of the fire of deceit that you have started, is going to burn you one of these days, dear father"
"it's been more than a decade and this is how you greet me"
"oh my, I've been so rude" I spoke as I feigned guilt, "I'd stab you in the chest just to show you how much I've missed you, but unfortunately, I don't have a knife on me, such an unlucky father you are, you are safe for today"
He smirked before frowning, "enough of that." he said at once, "I'm sure you want to know why you are here" he said as he stared at me.
"I'd rather be at my gone, but I don't have a choice, so, what's my verdict?" I asked as I took a sit,
He smiled before speaking "something has been murdering citizens-" "oh no!" I fake gasped "those innocent beings, who would wish ill on them?" I said faking a few tears
"oh quit the sarcasm, this is serious, I want you to find out what is killing them and how to stop it"
"at this rate, you might as well pay me, after all, I am putting my life at risk," I said venom lacing my tone.
Gerald chuckled, before speaking, "don't you think letting your family live and protecting you, is more than enough," he said as he stood up and walked towards the transparent glass that gave a clear view of the city, "Out there are 300,000 individuals, who want nothing than to seek justice for the hundreds that were murdered a Decade ago, if I told them, that their culprit, was currently sitting in my chamber," he walked towards me and looked into my eyes "what do you think they would do?"
"you mean when they see me?" I asked the rhetorical question "they will be filled with joy, they will sing my praises, they will rejoice and they will look up to me" I smiled at the shock on his face
"do you know why?" I asked once again before I closed the distance between us "because you, you will not say anything, you neither have the motive nor the guts to kill the only person who can save your beloved community"
" I mean I don't blame you, even I would be hesitant, seeing as I killed over a hundred men when I was ten, you must have deduced the fact that whatever I am now is 12 times what I was back then, I'm pretty sure you are smart enough to know, that if I wanted to, destroying this Kingdom would be a piece of cake" I sensed that his guards were down and he was nervous.
"then why haven't you done it yet?" he said smirking as he had found a loophole.
"simple," I began cause I don't feel like it"
*************************,****
He let out loud taunting laughter, that would have scared me- if not for two things
1) I wasn't bluffing, when you combine Lax and lux, the product is destruction, and 2) I could read his mind, and his glare betrayed his thoughts
"Are you threatening me?" he growled, "no, of course not!" I said, feigning fear, "I am simply explaining how things are, in this kingdom, I am not at your mercy, it's the other way around. Think about it"
After a few minutes, he sighed before speaking "how much are we talking about?"
"enough money to get me a house, a car, and save ballad from ruin"
"you want me, to save those filthy ballaxians?"
I glared at him Before speaking, "those filthy ballaxians trained me, -the person who's about to save not only your ass but hundreds of citizens from whatever this is" I said gesturing to nothing in particular.
"fine." he sighed. Defeat dripping from his tone, I smiled but my smile was short-lived as his next words would change everything.
"I don't trust you to go alone, so someone will protect you, guide you and inform you of all the information we have gathered"
"Meet my right-hand man, Cole darwin"
"oh, you mean your, useless, unbearable, incompetent-" before I could finish my well-organized sass.
He walked in. He
They had to be kidding me.

"oh, you mean your, useless, unbearable, incompetent-" before I could finish my well-organized sass.
He walked in. He—
They had to be kidding me.
"you are kidding me right?" he asked glaring at me
Whoa, where was his remorse from earlier?
"I can't work with him!" I said as I pointed at him accused
"and why is that?" the fake king asked. Haha. I got tired of calling that man an actual king, figured he didn't deserve it
"isn't it obvious," I said as I returned this Vermin guy's glare "he's stuck up, judgemental arrogant, and not to mention he feels like he can bash anyone and belittle them because he's an elite"
"well, I'd like to see you get one" he retorted I chuckled.
"it's funny cause I'm not one, but I'm still needed here, what? even with that elite badge there still ain't enough balls?"I taunted
"you-" he began irritated and annoyed.
"enough! both of you! Stop acting like children, he is meant to guide you, and protect you, you should be glad that my best man is with you!" the fake king yelled. Dummy.
"yeah, being forced to come here, meeting this unbearable guy might I add, and having to work with him, gosh, king, it's my freaking dream, how did you know? I asked sarcasm lacing my voice, the room fell silent for a moment before I spoke.
"look I'm gonna figure out what's going on this town, and I do not need a baby sitter, give me the address to the investigations unit, I'll figure it out, or there's no deal, and you might as well kill me, so what will it be "me alone? Or me dead?" I asked, the man sighed and spoke
"fine. You can go alone, but know that you are taking advantage of our desperation," he said as he handed me a gold badge, one that permitted me to move freely around town without restrictions.
"the same way you took advantage of my innocence, don't push it"
With that, I walked out, hell-bent on finding out what this whole mess is about and returning to my old life, if only I knew, it wasn't gonna be as easy as I thought.
