Mike Smith had been a rebellious son of a soft spoken father. His father had been a deserter in the war with pirates in the Goldland. He had faced the stigma of being the son of a coward since the time immemorial.
When pirates set fire to the Goldrush, the village at the feet of the Leonsden castle, his father ran from the fight as fast as his legs could carry him.
Rest of his father's drinking mates died.
The villagers looked down on his father. Ten year old Mike was unable to bear the teasing of the children, ran away to join the infantry of the Lustre army.
This is his first battle, despite there being many with the Winterchild family till now.
The legends of winterchilds and wintermen warriors were rampant in the barracks of the Lustre army. Rumor has it winter men are nine feet tall, with four hands and frost appears wherever they fight.
