Early morning there was a siren in the Gilgil barracks the recruits didn't know what was the purpose of the siren, and the instructors wearing truck suits came into their hostels.
"Wake up" One of them shouted.
Going round canning recruits to wake up.
The recruits woke up switched on the lights and distributed red tracksuits.
"Put on the track and get ready for a rigorous military training" One of the young energetic men shouted.
The recruits hurriedly put on the tracksuit
"Stretch if you are done make yourself flexible for the task" the Instructor shouted.
Robin looked at the watch it was four am he was very surprised.
"Follow us!" Instructors commanded.
They ran out followed by the recruits for several kilometers it was a am awful experience for the recruits since it was their first time.
Robin struggled to run he had never participated in running before he struggled to follow the instructors, he looked behind he saw a military truck following them the people who were overwhelmed by running Ladies were caned and let board the military truck.
Robin struggled and they returned to the camp without the knowledge.
"Stand on a straight line drawn on the ground!" Instructor ordered
The recruits stood following a straight line on the ground.
"Welcome to the military training my name is major general Francis the head of the training department," Major Francis said.
The recruits were breathing hard after running for some miles Robin recovered from the rigorous military exercise.
"Get prepared for the training be conversant with the military training camp make sure you don't get lost we have dangerous wild animals roaming in the camp" Francis advised.
"For the servicemen and women there are three phases of military training," Francis said
"One to three weeks you are going to pass through a red phase, the first three weeks of are considered the red phase. Trainees arrive for general orientation and are given haircuts and issued Army uniforms. During the red phase, trainees will learn about the Army heritage, command structures, and their leadership, and undergo an army physical fitness test that helps determine their physical aptitude. The physical fitness test will not only be routinely administered throughout but also their military career" Francis explains.
Robin and other recruits looked at each other in surprise.
"It not only I'm training where we are going to be subjected to physical fitness test it throughout our military career," Robin said to himself
The white phase is the second of three phases. Trainees go through marksmanship and combat training, execute a tactical foot march, learn engagement skills and how to rappel at the Warrior Tower, overcome the Confidence Obstacle Course, and conduct situational and field training exercises. This training is intended not only to teach trainees valuable skills but also to instill confidence" Francis further explained.
"That phrase is very interesting that is what Joshua told us when we passed through the initiation," Robin said to the recruit standing next to him.
"Yes I yearn for the white phase that makes me be a soldier," Robin said
"Blue Phase Weeks, seven to ten weeks during the final phase, trainees will put all of their training to the test. Trainees will be required to negotiate field training exercises military operations in urban terrain training, and nighttime combat operations in the Night Infiltration Course. There is no access to the dining facility during these exercises, so meals are given in the form of either meal ready to eat or field chow" Francis reiterated.
Get ready mentally physically and psychologically" Francis said
David in the Eldoret training camp rested with his colleagues after the rigorous training exercise he sat on the ground taken by thought.
"My brother Robin where are you are you well?" David asked himself.
He thought the time when he was passing the initiation and Joshua narrated a story about soldiering and moving with a heavily armed military carrier.
"Robin I missed the days we used to listen to Joshua's stories I Miss's you my brother it's very soon I will graduate to be fully a soldier ready to go for a combat mission," David said. The other recruits were resting for the food to be served in the training area others were very exhausted the officers serving food came with food.
"Take your food!" Damsel shouted.
Damsel interrupted the sweet memories that lingered in David's mind David queued but the queue was long.
"After a rigorous military training I am coming for you my brother wherever you are I am coming to Nakuru to search for you my twin brother," David said to himself.
Willy one of his colleagues looked at him he reckoned that David was disturbed thinking about something all the time.
"Bro what is going it seems you are in much trouble the next session is not rigorous it's gun shooting skill," Willy said.
"I am enjoying the training but we parted with my twin brother he went to Kisumu and I came to Nakuru I don't know how he is fairing both of us had a dream of joining the military" David explained.
"Don't worry your brother is fine he is a grown man by now" Willy said.
"My worries are so many we don't know our real parents we are under the care of our single Forster mothers" David elaborated.
They talked as they moved towards the food being served Willy was very surprised about what David told him they were served food and went and sit with willy and talked as they enjoy the food.
"What is your plan after this" Willy asked.
"I am going to search for my brother even if he is outside the country I will dare go for him," David said.
"Remember you are a soldier you may not get time to look for your brother": Willy said.
"My family is the first before anything I will seek permission for me to go and search for him no matter the circumstances": David said emotionally.
"I see you are very determined to search for your family," Willy said.
"We have a covenant with him was to know our biological parents we search for the" David responded.
"How are you going to search and know your biological parents?" Willy asked.
'After three months of rigorous training I will join the military medical training school by the time I finished I would have known how to determine the human DNA and it's going to be easy for me to ascertain the DNA of our parents" David explained.
"What!" Do you mean you are having a grade of A plain in all the subjects?" Willy asked.
"Yes my dream Santo become a military medical doctor," David said boldly.
They finished taking their lunch the siren rang the recruits knew that it was the afternoon session which is a shooting class every recruit was very happy because shooting class is not a rigorous activity.
The siren rang the recruits went to shooting classes David and will rush to the class for the shooting lesson they sat in class with the two instructors there was an armored room in the class instructor removed several guns and placed them on the table.
"Welcome to the shooting class my name is instructor Roni I will be teaching you how to use guns and also the safety measures," Toni said
"The gun you are seeing on the table is red and is a non-functional training weapon that is fully or partially made of rubber or plastic. They are usually M16 rifles and are commonly used in basic training. Trainees are issued rubber ducks to add realism to training without the dangers and maintenance inherent to real firearms" Roni explained.
David was surprised they had never seen a gun.
"You come and stand near the table I show you how to dislocate the gun and wipe the dust in it and fix it again," Toni said.
"This is an M16 gun a very powerful gun used for long-range shooting Roni said.
The recruits were very keen when it comes to shooting using a gun it was their first time to see and differentiate guns.
This is a G3 rifle and this one is an AK45 rifle but the most powerful gun is the M16 rifle.
"I hope you are now conversant with the rifle for the meantime we are going to use non-functional training weapons since you are still new in this military facility," Roni said.
Tomorrow we are going to the field for a shooting practical it's now time for you to go for the evening parade.
The siren rang the recruits ran out of their classes to parade to be taught matching skills.
The days went by as Robin and David received the military training on the third month Robin and David started the military medical training course.
Maggy and Sandy became lonely they wished for Robin and David to finish their training for them to go back home, Sandy went to her boss's office she found he was alone she knocked on the door.
"Come on in," Dr. Ben said.
Sandy entered the office.
"What is wrong I see you are very sad," Dr. Ben asked.
"Robin I watched over the news that the Kenyan military is going to Somalia for the military mission I am worried that my son could be sent and anything can happen to him," Sandy said.
"The doctor laughed at sandy.
Robin is still undergoing training its already their third month and now in class pursuing the military medicine course don't worry" Dr. Ben replied.
"Can we call the military training base?" Sandy asked.
"Who do you know the military training base is very strict they don't allow such maybe if you know one of the generals" Dr. Ben responded.
"If I may ask who assisted Robin to join the military in Kenya you must know someone for you to be recruited as a soldier or else you end up buying position and losing a lot of money at the end" Dr. Ben reiterated.
"I don't have any idea Robin recently he was in the secondary school now he is in the military" Sandy said.
"When we are going to their pass out we are going to ask him," Sandy said.
"Remember to include me I will be there for me to go and give my congratulatory massage," Dr. Ben said.
