As a biology student if there's one thing I remembered that size in the animal kingdom on Earth is everything. Not only size in Kg but intellect and now even mana capacity. That's why I think I have a real possibility of becoming powerful. I have high intelligence and I can perhaps even train my mana more.
Although I might be a fox I can still manipulate tools using my tails. I should be able to think up more inventive ways to use magic than the animals. I should be able to do well in this world. It's nothing like my last where goody 2 shoes get good grades and good jobs to work for trust fund babies who just sit on top of their daddy's wealth while everyone else gets shafted.
I have an advantage over everyone else in this world innately in my ability to combine the perfect intellect of a human and the abilities of the fox. If I play my cards right I can rise to the top of this world and live a comfortable life. It would be nice to live like that.
Maybe this is even a fantasy world where I could become king. Imagine the scenes. A fox ruling over humans.
That's why I put all my effort into becoming strong and improving myself. A month after my practice I spent the time learning magic and gorging myself. Now I was the size of my parents and still growing where my siblings were still small compared to me. I developed my ice magic into general water magic that I can summon but I still primarily use the ice as weapons. Now I've gotten my ice shaping so advanced I can even make things like ice chains although I've gotten the ice to be more resistant to heat. I still can't figure out how to make it more durable.
I was able to do this by just using traps usually using ice spikes at the bottom and covering the hole with grasses. Many animals didn't go into them on their own but I chased them into areas heavy in traps where many would fall in trying to get away from me. The bunnies' higher jumps and the mice's speed boosts didn't help them after they got impaled on an icicle.
As a result, today was the day where I leave my home. I have no reason to stay and I think I need to forge my own path now.
Saying goodbye would be wasted on my parents so I decided to just leave. I headed east it would be easy to head that way and follow the sun.
I walked for 5 hours using my hearing and smell to avoid some wolves and bears. One strange thing I noticed was that there are not many differences in the biodiversity of this world and Earth's it's quite strange. In my whole walk east I didn't see signs of humans anywhere.
It's possible that there are no humans in this world. Although it could be that the climate I'm in is inhospitable for farmers and there are some hunters around. It's worth watching out for especially since they could have guns.
It would suck to get spattered by a camper a day after leaving my house. Although for foxes traps are usually used to preserve the pelt. I probably need to watch out for those.
As I was walking I found a nice dry spot with a creek relatively close by I checked in a 1-mile radius to make sure it was safe and it was so I started digging. I spent all night digging and creating my den to make it about 2x2 of my length.
It's weird not to know my own size. Like I could base my sizes off a normal fox's sizes but that might be incorrect it's hard to say. It doesn't really matter but it would be easier to conceptualize distances if I have a uniform measurement.
If I don't find humans within 6 months I'll make my own units of measurement.
The next day I decided to scout out further and get a good idea of the surrounding area. I couldn't smell any other animals except for some birds which was strange. I was on high alert because this could mean that there's actually an apex predator in the area.
I continued walking when I heard a bear he wasn't too close and the footfalls didn't sound too heavy so I moved horizontally to the sound to see if I could get a look through the trees without getting closer.
Eventually, I got a peek through the trees the bear was on the smaller side I'd say he was double my size and triple my weight. Which was half the size of the other bear that I first ran into.
I decided that I would take this opportunity to take out the probable apex predator in the area.
I made a spear for each of my tails to hold and made ice claws for my hands.
The bear was just lazily resting in a clearing in the forest soaking up sun. I maneuvered directly behind him and started to sneak closer.
As soon as he noticed my presence I would attack as fast as I could. 40 steps... 30 steps... 20steps...
At 15 seconds he began to turn his head towards me I lunged right at hin aiming 1 at his face and another at where his heart should be. I also brandished my long claws at his abdomen.
He got up dodged the one at his face but the i=one at his heart impaled him. my strength wasn't enough though and it only sunk in 6 inches but my claws cut deep and lacerated tons of his stomach. It might be enough to kill him but it's probably not worth the risk of running away and hoping for him to bleed out before he catches me.
Shit should've aimed for the leg then I could be confident in outrunning him. The bear let out a combination groan and roar as I remade the ice gear that I used. the bear charged at me but I was able to put a tree in between me and him. I used the spears I had to make him keep his distance by blocking both sides around the tree.
Eventually, the bear just charged me I stuck the spear into his eye but before he died he gave me a hard paw swipe that sent me flying. Miraculously I was cut in many places and my fur was dirty and matted but my bones and muscles suffered no damage as far as I can tell.
I really need to be more careful though if I didn't kill him as he swiped I might've died.
I had a large meal though and a pretty tasty one too.
