My life is as boring as it gets. I live on the dullest street in the world, can you believe, with only five houses. If there were awards for 'the plainest and most boring street' or 'the street with the dullest and least interesting people in it' then my street would win hands down.
Borington is a small typical English town, so I'm told and, as the name suggests, it has also been voted the most boring town in England. I don't know who by, but they got it right. Whoever named this town got it spot on.
The main city centre is not too bad, it has a few shops here and there. There is a newsagent's, which doubles as the post office, a hairdresser's, a bank, a charity shop and a fish shop. They are spread out in a circle with empty shops and offices in between. I imagine there was once something in every building, not now though.
There is also a small grassy round-about area with seats that the older people like to sit at and have a natter. It seems like that's all they do.
Then there is my school, Borington high. A big red brick building with high windows and a strange-looking steeple at the top. The classrooms are all painted a boring white and hardly had any work on the walls. Then, from there spread the houses.
Borington used to be a mining town, back in the day, so every house was packed and there were always people out in the streets. However, the mine closed years before I was born, and all the men left to find work elsewhere, taking their families with them. It is mainly older people that live here now.
There are maybe about a hundred and fifty kids at my school, but they are bussed from the next town, Haynsworth, which is only a half-hour bus journey away.
I am the only one at my school that actually lives in Borington. I hate it! All my friends live far away, which means I can't see them during the weekends or holidays. Mum and dad won't let me get the bus by myself to go see them, which I find ridiculous.
Usually, I spend my time walking through the fields and wooden areas bored out of my mind. Sty Street, which is my street, is on the outskirts of town. I live, almost, at the very end of the street. Ms Maple, a widower, lives at number one. Dr and Dr Polli live at number two; one is a vet the other works in the doctor's surgery in Haynsworth, and Mr Jenkins, one of my teachers, lives at number three. Major cringe, living near one of my teachers. Luckily, he doesn't like to socialize.
I live at number four with my mum and dad and little brother. Mum is a stay at home mum and dad works for the police force in Haynsworth. My little brother, George, is only two. My house is small, but that's ok. We have a living room slash dining room and then the kitchen. Then three bedrooms upstairs, which means that I don't have to share with my brother.
Where are my manners?
I'm Georgia and yeah, I know what you're thinking. Apparently, my great grandfather on my mother's side was called George and he raised mum when her parents had died or something like that. So, she decided that she was gonna name her first child, that she was sure was a boy, after him. When I came out, she changed it to Georgia, so it was still close. Then, when George came out, they decided to do what they were gonna do before.
I was nine at the time and I really tried to convince them to change it to Henry or something. They obviously didn't and now when someone calls George, I think they are shouting for me, it's so annoying. I think when I am old enough, I might change my name to something really cool like Charlotte, or Jessica, maybe even Emily. They have a nice ring to them.
I am just over five foot three, which isn't too small. I'm not stick thin nor am I big. Mum says I have curves in all the right places, whatever that means. My long brown hair is always down, it comes down to my elbows. Mum wants me to cut it, but I want to try and get it longer.
Anyway, back to my street!
The last house, number five, was vacant. It had been vacant for as long as I could remember. I often imagined what type of family might move into that house.
Knowing my luck, it would probably be an elderly couple or something, it's never any kids my age. I might even be happy with kids a couple of years younger; I could babysit or something.
