"Why am I still here?!!!!"
I scream as I wake up to the same cave ceiling I fell asleep to startling the birds around me. The only the cave is a lot lighter than when I went to sleep. Shouldn't I have woken up in my bed back home? I should be seeing my husband's angry face for oversleeping on such a big day and struggling to come up with excuses instead of staring up at the cave's roof. I can't still be sleeping. This has to be the most realistic dream I have ever had. I can't believe I am still here.
This is too weird. Picking myself up, my body feels stiff from sleeping on the cave floor, and I even have some cuts and bruises, but amazingly they all seem to vanish before my eyes. I never had a dream like this before. I even had a dream of my own inside this dream. I dreamt I was walking through the halls of my old school and of the day I met my husband for the first time. I can still remember the mess I was when he suddenly transferred to my school and was assigned the seat next to me. I was such an idiot. I couldn't even look at him at first and struggled to even speak without stuttering. I must have looked like such a fool to him, but he never mocked me for it. Over time I got better and even asked him to the school dance. I was so happy when he said yes and couldn't…
"Ahh!"
I cry out and hunch over, clutching my stomach as a sharp pain pierces my belly. My throat suddenly feels dry, and my vision loses all its colour turning black and white. I feel something poke my lips, and I am terrified to find a pair of fangs that have grown long and sharp within my mouth. I guess it shouldn't have surprised me since I am a vampire in this dream, but I would have gasped if the pain in my stomach wasn't so bad. I have never felt pain like this before. I doubt I could even stand in this condition.
Rolling onto my side, I suddenly see colour as I spot a fish with red lines running throughout its body. Blood. I suddenly feel the urge to taste blood. I can see it flowing through those red lines on the fish. It looks so tempting I can't help myself, and I have to catch it. Reaching a hand forward it is so easy. The fishes must have grown used to me while I was sleeping because this one doesn't flee and even swims closer to my hand. I grab it in one quick motion, and despite the fishes struggle, it can't escape me.
Blood. Bringing it closer to my mouth, I can smell the blood flowing through this fish's veins. My fangs effortlessly pierce the fishes body, and its blood pours into my mouth. I never knew blood could taste so good. It is so warm and sweet I could drink this stuff all day long. I drain this fish dry, drinking every last drop of blood before I fish's body suddenly bursts into a white puff of smoke, leaving only a piece of meat behind. I never drank something as fast as that fishes blood… blood… I drank blood… I can't believe I drank that fishes blood. I don't know what came over me. Suddenly, I felt the urge to drink blood, and I couldn't stop myself.
"Blood Haze Ended,"
Looking at the notification that appears, I quickly get my answer. It seems I was in a blood haze. I guess that is something that happens to vampires when they don't drink blood.
"Ability Gained: Water Breathing,"
"EXP Gained: 1,"
"Items dropped: Raw Fish Meat x1,"
Do I gain more abilities by drinking blood? I must do because I gained this ability after drinking the blood of that fish. I hate that I had to kill the fish for this new ability, but it seems helpful to be able to breathe underwater. I end up burying the raw fish meat, not wanting to eat it after killing the fish. I put it in a shallow grave and pray the fish forgives me. I know this is only a dream, but that fish must have suffered as I drained him dry of blood.
After burying the fish, I have no idea what to do next. I explored most of the cave already, and I don't really want to stay here with nothing to do until I wake up. It would be one thing if my brain gave me a TV to watch or at the very least a book to read, but I have neither. If I do end up having to stay here until I wake up, I could be the very first person to die of boredom in their sleep. I could explore the cave more, but the only way I have left to go is through that spider-infested cobwebbed covered cave tunnel, and I really don't want to go through there. Turning back to face the house, I guess I could explore the basement in the meantime.
The place is still as empty as it was the first time I set foot inside this place. The abandoned house still looks dusty, and I am surprised that I haven't seen any birds making nests in here. Stepping through the building, I don't bother to call out this time. The door hinges squeak, but the floorboards don't make a sound. I guess I have my Silent Step skill to thank for the lack of noise. Slowly I step forward, still surprised by the lack of cobwebs in here. I figured there must be at least one or two cobwebs in some corner of this house with all the dust everywhere. But finally, after a few seconds, I reach the surprisingly good looking door.
No paint has chipped off, and when I pull the door open, it doesn't squeak like the other doors in this house. I'm starting to get the feeling that this place isn't as abandoned as I first thought. That feeling is only reinforced when I look down the stairs and see a flickering light. It reminds me of the times I would stay with my grandparents. I would often see the flickering of their fireplace whenever I got up in the middle of the night for a glass of water.
"Hello!" I call down the stairs. "Is someone down there!" Silence is the only thing I get in response. "I'm coming down! I don't mean you any harm!"
I tiptoe down the stairs, still not getting a reply. I try to listen and hear if anyone is down there as I go feeling grateful for my Silent Step skill causing the stairs not to squeak beneath me. I hear nothing once I reach the bottom of the stairs, but I am not convinced I am alone down here. Peeking into the room, I am surprised to find it empty despite the burning torches. Stepping inside, I see four torches are surrounding a stone circle.
"Warp Stone Registered,"
"Information:"
"Warp Stones can be teleported to from anywhere without the expenditure of Magical Points,"
This really is just like the games I used to play. I can remember ending every session by teleporting to my in-game home from wherever I was grinding that day. But anyway, at least now I don't have to worry about getting lost. I can just come back here every day until I finally… I hopefully wake up. I must be waking up soon. But enough about those thoughts. I guess I should continue to explore the cave, and as much as I hate to admit it, I know that means going through that nest of giant spiders. Just the thought of that place makes me shiver. But what choice do I have? I already explored every other tunnel in this cave, and that den of spiders is the only way left to go that doesn't lead to a dead end. At least I get to use my sprint skill again. I am not going to lie. It was pretty fun running around like that yesterday.
But as much as I hate it, I force myself to go through with this plan. It is better than wandering around the same tunnels every day. At least, that's what I tell myself as I climb up the stairs. I really hate spiders and pray I can find a way through their home without running into one. It's unlikely, but a girl can dream, can't she? Unfortunately, that dream is dashed when I exit the house and see a giant spider running after me.

I bite my lip and shake when the stats of this monster appear for me. It is leagues above the other spider and myself. I don't stand a chance against this thing, but the time to flee has long since passed as the spider charges towards me. It is too close and too fast for me to run, so I have no choice but to grit my teeth and fight. I draw my sword, hoping for a miracle.
Before I can even think of making my first move, that monster attacks. As it charges towards me, webs form above the giant spider creating a large thin object that, without warning, shoots towards me faster than a speeding bullet. If it wasn't for my characters enhanced speed, I would have been killed. That must be the spider's Web Javelin, although, with the way it's now stuck in the side of the house, it appears that the Web Javelinis far stronger than the ones I used to throw around in school. I think it goes without saying that getting hit by one of those things will not end well for me. So, in that case, I guess I will take my chances up close and person with this creepy monster.
Rushing forward, I do my best to control my fear, but this creature isn't making that easy when he strikes hard enough to punch a hole into the ground. If I had reacted just a millisecond later, that strike would have killed me. But I can't afford to worry about what could have happened right now as this thing is so fast I can barely keep up.
Duck, dodge, duck, dive, sidestep, duck. I can't even catch my breath as this spider relentlessly assaults me with one strike after another. The ground beneath me is becoming covered in potholes, and if I let my guard down for even a second, so will my body. This thing is a million times faster and stronger than the last spider I fought. It is too fast. I don't know how… AHHH!!!
Blood flew from my mouth as one of the spider's legs slams into my stomach. In a blink of an eye, I lose a quarter of my HP, but I don't have time to even feel alarmed as I smash into the side of the house, losing ten more HP. My eyes widen as I see my health points have dropped to just over fifty percent. This is bad. I can't take another hit like that. There has to be something I can do. Skills? No, I don't have anything to help me overcome this spiders speed and strength. Abilities? I have some useful ones like my Unnatural Healing ability that has already begun to raise my HP but nothing to help me win. Magic? Yes magic! I must have some spell that can turn the tide of battle.
Damit. The spider doesn't give me a chance to check before it launches another Web Javelin at me, but luckily, I manage to roll out of the way in time. There has to be something I can do. Putting some more distance between myself and the monster, I quickly look up the spells I know. Calm of the Night might work, but I can't use it during the day. I could use Teleport to attack, but I ended up going with the last spell on the list. Enhance Abilities. It is just what I need. It doubles my strength and speed for three minutes. With this spell, I can defeat this spider!
I don't waste the small break in the fighting and quickly activate the spell. In an instant, my body is covered in a golden light, and I can just feel the strength entering my body. I smell as I see the spider rushing towards me. It must sense something is off, but unlucky for him, he is too late to stop me. I rush towards the monster finding myself faster now, and I quickly slash into the spider's body with my sword. I feel better knowing I can fight back now, but I hate how little damage I just inflected.
"You are pretty tough," I comment, ducking the spider's counter-attack before chipping away more of its HP with two quick slashes. "Too bad it won't save you."
I have to drop back when the monster threatens to crush me, but the spider seemed to already anticipate this move as it quickly fires off a Web Javelin. I doge the move by the narrowest of margins, but it still scratches me hard enough to take away two of my health points. I am glad my HP is still rising, thanks to my abilities. Otherwise, I'm sure I would be on the verge of death by now.
This monster seems desperate to stay on the initiative as it attacks me again. I need to end this fast. One lucky blow from the spider could one-shot me, and I only have two minutes left on my Enhance Abilities spell. I have to end this fight before that spell loses its effects. Rushing forward, I land five more blows between dodging the spider's attacks, but it is not enough. There is now only one minute left on my spell. Gritting my teeth and swallowing my fear, I attack again and again, landing two clean hits, but it still isn't enough. Thirty seconds. I have thirty seconds to end this fight. The spider tries to crush me again, but I sidestep out of the way before cutting off one of its legs, landing a critical hit.
"Critical Hit,"
"x2 Damage suffered,"
It is still not enough to kill the spider, and my eyes widen as the effects of the spell wear off. It is nearly dead. I can see the monster's health bar flashing red, but I can't land a hit without my enhanced speed. At least my own HP has fully recovered, but I don't think even with that good news, I have the time to wait around for that speel to finishing cooling down so I can use it again.
One more hit should do it. If I can overcome the monsters speed, I can end this fight. I just need to land one more hit. I could let it hit me. If it strikes me, I could land a counter strike of my own before I am thrown back, but that's just stupid. Maybe as a last resort, but I need to think of something else before I get killed by this thing. Maybe… yes, that's it. I can use that teleporting idea I came up with earlier. I have enough MP to pull it off.
"Your dead now," I feel a smile return to my lips as I activate that spell right before the create smashes the ground where I was just standing.
It's funny seeing the monster looking around confused, but I don't feel like telling it where I am. For one thing, that would ruin the surprise, and I love surprises. Before the spider can even react, I land on its back, driving my sword into its body. The monster cries out, but it is too late, and it swiftly dies. Finally, I can catch my breath.

It really is over. I let out a sigh of relief as I collapsed to the ground. I really did beat it. The fight took more out of me than I thought. My whole aches despite my HP being fully recovered, and I don't see a stamina gage, but I am guessing it is empty with how tired I feel. But at least the monster is dead. Not only that, but I managed to level up twice too. Laying on the ground staring up at the ceiling, I can't help but giggle a little. It feels good to have beaten such a formidable foe.
With nothing better to do, I decide to update my stats while I rest. I have twenty points to spend, and I quickly add ten of them into boosting my Dexterity. I want to boost my speed after that last fight. Next, I put five into my Constitution for a little more HP, and finally, I added the last five points to my strength score. I haven't learned any more skills, abilities or spells, but I am confident I can handle another monster like the last one now. At least I hope I can fight one more easily.

It is not a big boost, but it will defiantly even the odds if I ever come across another Cave Spider Soldier. But when I start to get up, a fear enters my mind, and I can't help but wonder if this will continue. That more spiders will come looking for me. Is this because I killed that spider yesterday? I am not sure if that is true, but my gut tells me that. I guess I have no choice now but to wipe the spiders out just be on the safe side. I guess my little trip to the spider nest has now become an act of war.

They must have been expecting me. Two more giant spiders guard the entrance to the spider's nest, and they both look strong.

Two-level eight spiders that are the same type as the one that attacked me earlier. At least they are not as strong as the last ones. I can do this. Fighting these guys should be child's play compared to the earlier battle, especially since I levelled up. These guys don't stand a chance.
Stepping forward, I quickly get their attention. Letting out what I guess is a warcry, the spiders charge forward together. I don't remember that last spider letting out a cry like this, but he had the same skill, so maybe he did it before I even knew he was there. I can't let these monsters take the lead when they outnumber me, so I use my sprint skill to quickly close in, catching the monsters by surprise and landing a good hit on spider A before jumping back to avoid spider B's counter-attack. I can do this. I m so much faster than these spiders now. They don't stand a chance.
This is turning out like my first fight. I dive in and out of range of the spiders attacking when I see an opening and not giving the monsters a chance to hit me. It isn't long before the spider's HP drops below half, and I can tell they are getting desperate. They don't try to dodge me now. Instead, one of them takes a hit, trying to leave me open so the other can land a hit. I don't let them strike me, but that means I was forced to cast my teleport spell to dodge a blow from time to time.
Soon spider B falls, but spider A isn't making it easy and still fighting for his life. Jumping off the walls of the caves and ceiling, the spider does everything in its power to try and turn the tide of battle, but it is too late. With on final swing of my sword, I bring the spider down, ending the fight. I can do this. I smile as I catch my breath. I am so much stronger after levelling up there is no way I can lose.

I was kind of hoping I would level up again, but I guess that was too much to ask. I can't complain since I only just levelled up twice, not that long ago, but I am still a little disappointed. But now comes the part I have not been looking forward to. Slowly I enter the spider's nest, doing my best to ignore the sticky feeling of the cobwebs beneath my feet. I better defeat the spiders soon. I really don't want to be here any longer than I have to.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The spiders don't even stand a chance. I quickly slay six of the Cave Spider's I first met yesterday, one after the other earning enough exp to level up at last. I quickly get to work, spending my newly acquired points putting ten into my Dexterity, boosting my speed furth and splitting the remaining ten between Strength and Intelligence. I figured I should start boosting my magic for when I learn some more spells. Some more good news after all that fighting, I managed to also level up my Swordsmanship to level two.
As I continue to move, I feel that maybe the spiders are avoiding me. I can't blame them for being afraid after I just tore a bloody path through them, but I wish they would come out and fight. I don't care about grinding for exp or anything. I just want to make sure there are no spiders left to come after me for revenge after I leave this place. Finally, another two cave spiders appeared and quickly met their ends through a swing of my sword. My backpack is almost filled with spider meat and silk. I might have to head back to that house and drop some stuff off soon.
As I keep moving forward, I am surprised I haven't seen any more of the soldier spiders yet. I'm starting to wonder if this nest even had many soldiers to begin with. Maybe the safety of the cave has lead them to maintain only a light guard. I am not complaining about the lack of solid resistance, but I just hope there isn't a trap or something waiting up ahead. I shouldn't have thought about traps. Now I am nervous as I round the corner. I sigh in relief as I see nothing on the other side of that corner.
I'm working myself up over nothing… or at least that is what I thought until I set foot into a large cavern. Great, they were waiting for me. Getting ready, I brace myself for what might be my toughest fight yet. Four Cave Spider Soldiers and at least twelve normal Cave Spider's wait for me on the far side of the cavern. But behind them, I see the Spider Queen herself.

In a one on one fight, maybe, but with all this back up, I don't think my chances of victory are high. But I can't retreat now. If I were to run, they would just chase me, and with only dead ends behind me, I have nowhere to go. My chances of survival are higher if I fight them here in this cavern with plenty of room to manoeuvre. Looking the Spider Queen in the eye, I can feel her anger glaring back at me. I guess that spider I killed yesterday was her child.
Letting out their cries of war, the spiders charge towards me, but the queen stays back. I don't know whether she is trying to just tire me out or just letting her underlings take me out, but I don't have time to worry about that now. At least this works in my favour. If I can defeat these spiders, I can face their queen in a one on one fight. I might even level up to pushing the odds in my favour when I finally face her.
The soldiers start the battle by firing their javelins at me, but it is childsplay to dodge them as I rush forward myself. I can do this. I defeated monsters of this type before. Maybe not in such large numbers, but I have beaten them in groups before. I can do this. I will defeat them and take out the queen.
I focus on the regular cave spiders firest taking out the weaker ones. Still, the soldiers aren't making that easy for me. But I think I played right into the hands of the monster. The cave spiders don't seem to care about their lives, and the soldiers constantly put them in danger whenever they fire a javelin at me. How heartless can this queen be that she will just let her minions die so casually? But with such reckless actions, I can quickly bring one of the spiders down than another. By ducking and dodging while striking where I can, I manage to defeat the normal cave spiders in within a few minutes. I even level up as a result of the fighting reaching level five. Still, I can't really think about spending those points in the middle of a battle, so I dump half into my Strength score and the rest in my Dexterity score.
The soldiers don't stand a chance against me now. They can't even keep up with me as I dive in and out of their attack range, landing blows and never giving them the chance to repay the favour. It takes me a little longer, but the first spider soldier falls by my blade. I don't even have to try anymore, as even when all three of the remaining spiders rush me together, I am fast enough to dodge their assault. They get a bruised ego and a meeting with the business end of my sword for their efforts. A second soldier soon falls, then a third and finally the fourth soldier dies.
I smile up at the queen. I levelled up again after defeating those spiders, and I quickly split the points between my Constitution and Intelligence scores. I figure I already have enough speed and strength to defeat the queen, so I elect to boost my HP and magical power instead. I even managed to level up my Swordsmanship and Sprint skills as well. Staring up at the queen, I wonder if she is afraid. I'm still not sure what she had planned, but whatever it is, her plan had failed. The queen minions couldn't land a hit on me, and I don't feel tired at all. As I smile, I feel like I could continue fighting all day.
But when the queen stares back at me instead of fear, I see only a blinding rage in her eyes. Letting out a deafening warcry, the queen walks forward, finally ready to get her own hands dirty. She certainly is bigger than the spider I have faced so far. Standing at least three times the size of the others and she even shakes the ground as she walks. This may be a tougher fight than I initially thought it would be. But I won't back down. Fighting this queen now while she is alone is my best chance to beat her.
With another cry, the queen kicks of our battle with a barrage of javelin's that force me into cover. I have never been shot at before, but I feel like this is what it is like to be pinned down by a machine gun. She doesn't give me a chance to move as the queen fires one javelin after the other at me a million times faster than the soldiers had. The only conclusion I have come to is that this is the result of the queens Multiple Uses skill. She must be timing her uses of the skill to fire this fast.
I have to do something. I can feel the queen getting closer and see the rock I am hiding behind start to crumble under the constant barrage. There has to be something I can do. That's it! I'll just do what I did earlier. Taking a quick peek, I nearly pay with the price of losing my eyesight for checking on the spider queens position. I better not take any chances and end this fight quickly. I cast my Enhance Abilities spell right as the rock starts to crumble, but when the dust settles, I have already teleported away. The queen looks just as confused as her elite soldier did earlier. I could laugh at the way the queen desperately looks around for me, but I don't want to give away my position just yet.
"Miss me?" I finally giggle a little as I land on the queen's back and quickly hack into her body.
One slash, and the queen howls. Two slashes, and she starts to thrash around in an attempt to throw me off. It's starting to get hard to stay on her back, but I deliver and two quick strikes before I am forced to hold on to some of the hairs on her back for balance. Unfortunately, after landing three more blows, the queen finally manages to throw me off. I loss five Health Points, but I barely feel a thing, and I am quickly back on my feet, charging back towards the queen. The queen tries to cut me down with a hail storm of javelins, but I can easily dodge everything she throws at me thanks to my boosted speed. I critical reach her and swiftly slice of one of her legs.
"Critical Hit,"
"x2 Damage suffered,"
That's how I can beat her. With only twenty seconds left until my Enhance Abilities spell wears off, going for criticals are the only way I can win. I rush from one leg after the other, cutting them off without even realising I killed the queen until her body starts to turn into smoke. I let out a sigh of relief. I won…

Perfect. I even levelled up. I waste little time in deciding how to spend my points. Seeing how speed is winning most of my fights, I quickly put ten points into improving my Dexterity. For the remaining ten points, I struggle to decide what to spend them on, but in the end, I put them into improving the two stats I have been neglecting. Five goes into Wisdom, and five goes into Charisma. I haven't had to use those stats for anything yet, but I would rather improve them before failing any checks later. I still haven't learned any new spells, but I don't think that is a problem I can't deal with. The only problem I have now is what to do with the all the items I can't fit into my backpack. The ground is littered with spider meant and thread. In the end, I decided to ditch all the meat I had already packed away in my bag and stuff it with the silk that my Analysis skill tells me is more valuable. If I ever get out of this cave, I might be a wealthy lady. But then again, this is a dream, so why should I care if I become rich?
